1. What are continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs), and how do they differ from a traditional freestanding SNF or ALF? What are some of the financial challenges faced by developers of CCRC communities (describe at least two items). How popular do you think the CCRC model would be in an area like Westchester or Rockland county (choose only one county for your analysis).
According to the New York State Department of Health (DOH), Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) are “residential alternatives for adults that offer, under one contract, an independent living unit, residential amenities, and access to a continuum of long-term care services, as residents’ health and social needs change over time.” CCRCs differ from traditional

Northern Westchester County has ample space for a CCRC. The Osborne, in Rye, is a good example. CCRC’s bring jobs and stability to an area.
According to the United States Census Bureau, 62% of the population in Westchester County is homeowners, compared to only 54% statewide. Seniors usually sell their homes to pay entrance fees so having a large percentage of homeowners is positive for the area. In addition, seniors may feel financially secure knowing that CCRCs must guarantee that each contract holder will be cared for even after they deplete their personal assets.
Regulatory oversight is another factor for popularity. In New York State, CCRCs were established under Article 46 of the Public Health Laws. DOH has oversight for the certification and operation of CCRC’s. State licensure and/or accreditation from the Continuing Care Accreditation Committee offer peace of mind to seniors and families.

(Value is a combination of quality, service, and price.)
Assisted living facilities need to effectively market their value:
• They must provide a quality product. The Ben Pearce book reminds us that all employees must be dedicated to delivering a quality product.
• Their price must be one that is attainable and reasonable for the offerings. The Kotler & Keller text suggests that facilities analyze competitors and their offerings, estimate their own costs, and determine demand, in order to set the appropriate price.
• When it comes to service, facilities need to go above and beyond the ordinary to add value. For example, the facility needs to provide meals. Having various options and settings adds value.
While marketing is everything businesses do to identify its target market and create strategies for reaching its customers, sales is everything businesses do to close the sale and get a signed agreement or contract. Both are essential to the success of a
I will discuss how LTC contributes to the U.S. Healthcare System, the targeted clients, employees that work within the long-term setting, the benefits and services offered within LTC, and the expected outcomes for individuals in a long-term facility. I will discuss the legalities and regulatory issues faced within the LTC setting along with ethical issues that may impede successful facilitation of a long-term facility.
Another focus for change is that over the years the demand for home and community care over hospital care has continued to grow, as stated by the Queens nursing institute “Recent health policy points to the importance of improving and extending services to meet the health and care needs of an increasingly older population and provide services which may have previously been provided in hospital within community settings”.
All nursing home facilities have their own regulations that governs and controls the facility residents, providers, policies and procedures. In addition to their own regulations, nursing homes are regulated jointly by state (department of health for each state) and the federal government (U.S Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services CMS) (Rosenfeld, 2009). In order to ensure that nursing home facilities comply with regulations and policies, state and federal government send agencies to conduct surveys which are inspections that are done once or twice annually depending on the facility performance and the inspections are done

It is a well-known fact most Americans seniors would prefer to age in their own homes instead of moving into senior living communities. Meeting seniors where they are is a trend that will most likely affect assisted living facilites in the future. One of the main focuses from providers is being patient centerd. Meaning working with the patient to ensure that the best possible care is given. Providers are working with patients and offereing more services within their homes. Another trend that we will see in assisted living facilites is a competive pressure. According to the National Investment Center for Senior Housing and Care, competition housing is an increasing trend that is affecting living situtions for the elderly

The Canadian population is graying at a steady pace, adding thousands of seniors above the age of 65 in the population charts year after year. This segment of the population needs special attention due to its social, emotional, health, and dwelling needs. Continued growth in the size of aging population is putting pressure on the economy, health care system, and living space for seniors. Planners and policy makers need to pay immediate attention to the issue as it is going to affect all Canadians in the years to come.
It is important to take care of the future needs for medical care as well as regular shopping. Home maintenance and alteration are also important parameters in this regard. The home needs to be in a condition as to not pose any hazard to the elderly person. It needs to have modifications according to the needs
Aging is inevitable. People go through life meeting milestones such as going to college, getting married, having children, and then growing old. Getting older is not only hard on the individual but, also the family. It is difficult for a person who has taken care of themselves all their life to wake up one day and realize they can no longer do things on their own. That is why their are nursing homes. There are many speculations about whether or not it is okay to place a family member in a nursing home however, there are many benefits to nursing homes. The adult children of the elderly should opt for professional care for their aged parents rather than allowing them to live on their own because, nursing homes have constant help, daily activities, and people who can give family members continous support.
Taking care of the individuals that are getting older takes many different needs. Most of these needs cannot be given from the help of a family. This causes the need of having to put your love one into a home and causing for the worry of how they will be treated. It is important for the family and also the soon to be client to feel at home in their new environment. This has been an issue with the care being provided for each individual, which has lead to the need of making sure individuals have their own health care plan.
These facilities are regulated by the state and federal government and these regulations protects the senior residents. For example it is mandatory for the facilities in Texas to provide mandatory services such as daily living activities like dressing, feeding or help prepare meals and cleaning. Depending on the facility license the staff would have to assist with financial management and certain medical services. Even though the federal government developed guidelines the state can make their own as long as it complies with the federal government. Some organizations may accept private pay while others accepted Medicaid. Regulations are developed to protect residence that from being in an unsafe environment. As a result some assisted living and nursing homes are unable to continue services by having fines or closing for an unknown amount of time. Since each state has different set of regulations I will focus on the state regulations in Texas because it is the state I reside in. The organization in Texas that regulates assisted living and nursing homes is the Department of Aging and Disability services(DADS).
With advanced technologies in health care, the average lifespan of humans is around eighty-eight years, and these numbers are growing rapidly. Most elderly outnumber the younger within our population now, and with more of the baby boomer generation reaching the gold years, this number will rise exponentially. The cost of healthcare rising and the amount of Medicare funds decreasing makes caring for that loved one challenging. Statistics by Dr. Feng presented, “Individuals are living much longer; family structures are changing; women have entered the workforce. With no national health insurance program like Medicare and with the one-child policy that places elder care responsibilities on fewer shoulders” (Dr Feng). To some, the question of placing an elderly family member in long-term care facilities is a difficult one to consider. All too many times the elderly abandoned are not seeing families until visitation funeral ceremonies.
8. Residential care facilities: A non-medical community-based building that provide the care includes meals, medication supervision, activities, and transportation to those who can no longer care for themselves.
America is a country where everyone is free to live however they like, but it is possible for some people to live a happy life, if no one is around to take care of them. Nearly three hundred million people reside in the America, and out of those three hundred million populations, senior citizens make a 12 percent of the entire population. A senior citizen is commonly known as a person who is over the age of 65 and living on retirement, or known as social security benefits (Census Bureau). Ever since Franklin D. Roosevelt implied the act of Social Security in 1935, seniors are regularly provided a financial help, but seniors, along with financial help, seeks also accompany of someone who can look after them. Because of constantly growing needs of senior citizens, government as well as many non-profit organizations is working on helping seniors. Therefore I decided to research on this particular issue in my community, and I found that 64.5% of seniors are living alone in metropolitan area of Atlanta.
Home care will help with the elderly’s mental stability. This allows older adults to age in place and avoid making the move to an institute, which then allows seniors to live in their own homes independently and safe. the National Center for Biotechnology Information states that “Environmental characteristics at home and in the neighborhood need to be considered to better understand differential processes of aging in place with respect to well-being”. Meaning that For the program aging in place to be successful, it needs to have a network of skilled professionals, families and volunteers who can help seniors avoid entering long-term care facilities. louise Tenenbaum is the nation's leading authority on Aging in Place, and has years of experience
