The movie “A Simple Plan” The 1998 Film “A Simple Plan” Directed by Scott Raimi Follows 3 men as they stumble upon 4 million dollars in a crashed plain covered in snow in the middle of a nature reserve. After deciding to take the money Hank, the more intelligent of the three, comes up with a plan to hide the money until spring to avoid suspicion. As time goes by the three end up committing crime after crime to keep hidden their secret. Murder and deception run rampant as greed overwhelms them and starts to whittle away at their humanity. An analysis of the film’s setting, Characters, and conflict show that greed can corrupt anyone. The effect of greed is most apparent on Jacob’s volatile friend Lou Chambers. Lou is an unemployed drunk with piles of bills and gambling debt. He is desperate for money to get out from under his debt. He is not a smart man and doesn’t like hang because he thinks of hank as a goody two shoes. On top of having overwhelming debt he also had a wife that is always on his tail about be unemployed and being drunk all the time. Lou sees the money as “the American dream in a Goddamn gym bag”. Hanks wife Sarah Mitchell starts off with a strong set or morals but all that changes as soon as she sees the money in front of her. She comes up with plains for Hank to manipulate Lou and Jacob.
