Focus. Power. Confidence. These are the words people think of when they hear the phrase “eye of the tiger.” The majority of society knows this phrase intrinsically, even though its origin dates back over 30 years. My uncle is no exception, as he said that the song “Eye of the Tiger” by American rock band Survivor was a critical part of his youth. The “Eye of the Tiger” was released in 1982 and was also the theme song for the film Rocky III. The song was written by Survivor guitarist Frankie Sullivan and keyboardist Jim Peterik at the request of Sylvester Stallone himself. The scene Stallone requested the song for was originally supposed to go with the song “Another one Bites the Dust” by Queen, but there was an issue acquiring publishing rights.
If you look closely at the lyrics Barry McGuire Eve of Destruction directly takes on war and gun violence. the lyric “you're old enough to kill but not for voting” refers to the fact that at 18 years old you were old enough to be a drafted for the army but not old enough for voting. voting in the 1960's was reserved for the age of 21 and older but was changed in 1971 to the age of 18 that we know today. the first verse of the song starts off “the eastern world it is exploding violence flarin’ bullets loading” could be about today's society where the violence in countries such as Afghanistan-Pakistan and Syria is almost the worst that has ever been. communism in China at the time lead to the lyric ”think of all the hate there is in Red China”.
Feeling unwanted from the closest people in your life who turn away from you when you need them the most, is the worst feeling a person can endure. I chose the song “My Story” by Sean McGee, because people young and old can relate to his song. People from different backgrounds can relate to each other when there are living homeless or raised as a foster child. Sean McGee wrote “my daddy don’t know, my momma don’t care, it don’t matter if I’m here, it don’t matter if I’m dead” people all around the world have the same issues and share a common culture. A master status is the most important status a person occupies, this is a key factor in determining a person’s social position.
Global warming is a major ecological concern today. It is being caused by man’s ever
A motivation is a reason someone has for doing something a certain way. The Tiger’s Heart is a story written by Jim Kjelgaard in which the protagonist, Pepe Garcia has been making decisions based on forces within him. These forces all contributed in their own ways for Pepe’s decision making and outcomes in the story. These forces have helped define what Pepe is as a human being within the story. The forces motivating Pepe are security, fear and courage, greed and exploitation, and power. These forces motivated Pepe.
The movie was made by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which uses a lion as its mascot. In fact, MGM even considered using their mascot for the role of the Cowardly Lion.
Love is a very powerful emotion which is achieved by overcoming many hurdles and acting with courage. This bravery can be shown towards anything and anyone, including humans and animals. In Sara Gruen’s Water For Elephants, courage is a key aspect for characters that portray their love for other individuals and the animals. The characters, Jacob and Marlena love each other bravely, despite knowing the consequences for their actions. Not only does Marlena love Jacob, she also portrays affection for her horses as she protects them heroically. However, she is not the only one that admires the animals. Jacob is also fond of the animals in the circus and portrays it with valour.
“Its…it’s them again. They’s ridin’ tonight.” A night rider was someone who committed nocturnal and racist acts of violence against blacks. In the historical fiction, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, by Mildred D. Taylor, racism is a highly active issue within the Logan’s daily lives. One example of specifically the Logan children dealing with racism is the Black vs. White schooling system which was considered “separate but equal”. However, they were not equal in many areas including transportation. The black kids had to walk to school, whereas the white kids were given a bus. The Logan kids made the decision to take action towards the bus in response to being constantly bothered by the bus. This action left the bus out of commission for
“Ramblin’ Man” by The Allaman Brothers Band is the hero that cannot settle down for fear of being defeated.
“I got the eye of the tiger” what she means is she is the last time he's picking on her because the eye of a tiger is what the tigers prey sees last before death so she means she's the tiger now and he's her prey she's going to show him never to pick on her again.
Good parenting skills can go a long way in a child’s life. Different cultures believe different methods are efficient when raising their children. In “Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior” an excerpt from “Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mom” Amy Chua, a professor at Yale Law and a Chinese mother herself, states and argues why Chinese mothers are superior and the most effective when raising their children to be successful by utilizing personal anecdotes.
The point of “Sweet Home Alabama” by Ronnie VanZant is that it’s a response to Neil Young’s song, “Alabama.” In Neil Young’s song, he is unhappy with State of Alabama because of segregation there. Young wants Alabama to give up on segregation. And VanZant in responding to “Alabama”, sings “Sweet home Alabama” trying to tell Neil Young to back off, so VanZant is clearly not happy with Neil Young’s lyrics. VanZant says that he misses ‘’ole’ ‘bamy once again / And I think it’s a sin” because he doesn’t like leaving the state where the ‘’skies are so blue’’, meaning that life in Alabama is just fine and makes him happy.
Decisions change and shape the world and the people that have lived throughout the centuries of time. From the little decisions like what one should eat for lunch to the more harder decisions like if the allied nations should have bombed Japan. While these decisions can be dangerous, they are necessary in moving the human race and culture along. In stories like “The Lady and The Tiger” decisions could be the difference in life or death.
More than just a Tiger Mom is an article about Amy Chua and her memoir Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother. Lum talks about the questions people have on how effective the Western ways are compared to Tiger Mother. More than just a Tiger Mom, states four questions to Chua about being a tiger mom: “Some have accused you of perpetuating the “model minority” stereotype of Asian Americans as one dimensional academic nerds, do you agree?” Where Chua explains that is where she gets frustrated, she says, “my books is the opposite of entrenching the idea that Asians are obedient, meek, robotic, and non-creative. In my book I fight with my girls and they talk back at me constantly. They have the best lines. My book is a self-parody humanizing the Asian mother”.
In March 1865 MLK said in Selma, Alabama “If you can’t vote, your not free”. What does he mean by this? The novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, is about a black family during the great depression in the 30’s struggling through racism, injustice, and keeping something prideful to them, their own land. Set in a small town in Mississippi in the deep south, the Logan’s constantly have other neighboring white sharecropping families and plantation owners continuously criticizing them and have a tend to be racist and unjust to them on a daily basis, but can’t do anything about it because of the laws at the time that said white people could very well be racist as much as they want because people just didn’t care about black people. The struggles they
This essay describes the peace, protest and antiwar in the sixties with reference to the Vietnam War. The two songs “Universal Soldier” by Sainte-Marie and “Masters of War” by Bob Dylan. Both songs are sung by different-different artists but the main idea behind the song is totally related to war peace and protest for life against white people in 1960.
