Comprehensive Essay Is a “democracy” workable? Democracy is a difficult task to achieve. In order for it to work the people of this country must first be able to ask the hard questions, and make the difficult decisions. The reality is most people would rather stay in their comfortable lives and not deal with any of the problems that we all have as a country. In order to live in a successful true “democracy” no one person should be allowed to have special privileges; instead it should accommodate all groups of people, no matter how different they may be. In the inception of this country the idea of having a democracy may have been possible, but now that in a sense corporations dictate the laws that will pass and the ones that don’t, it is becoming more and more difficult to achieve a so-called “true” democracy. …show more content…

For this country to become a full democracy all supreme power has to be placed in the hands of the people, the issue is that everyone in this country comes from different places and we all think differently. Due to the fact that we are all different, we all vote to further our own interests. In a democracy each of us have a right to vote for a person to represent us in the legislative assembly. The elected person goes off to represent all of us whether we voted for him or not. The problem with this is that the person wins by majority vote and the people that voted for the minority get drowned out in the noise. Another problem is that the issues at stake in political life are too many and too complicated and that very many of the issues are actually unknown both to the representatives and to the people
