Is it that love is complicated or people do it complicated? In many situations, love can be projected as something complicated, or somewhat difficult to deal with. We hear stories, novels, even real-life experiences that prove that love is complicated. However, is not the lover’s fault all the time which makes it difficult for them, but their families. Sometimes is about level, money, power and sometimes magical love which separate the lovers from being together. To better understand the role of a complicated love between “My Life with the Wave” by Octavio Perez, and “The House of the Spirits” by Isabel Allende, they both utilized different types of passionate love between characters displaying strong motives. The chemistry between one’s heart and what it desires may lead to a leap that may have no bottom. That love is a perpetual creation, but may have many interpretations. In the short story “My Life with the Wave” displays a perception of love that only one can see, and feel the presence of the significant other. That in many aspects of life you are allowed to love what makes you feel whole. That in fact he fell in love with a wave, but Octavio Peres states “In spite of the shouts of the others who grabbed her by her floating clothes, she clutched my arm and went off with me leaping.”(676). Defining that wave saw the narrator as the only source of being safe and not be taunted from the others. As the narrator and wave move forward there’s more of this continuous of irony with in the story. Despite the tenuous troubles that the narrator goes through in order to be with wave, such as smuggling her aboard the train. Being accused of poisoning the water, staying in jail cell for a year to finally get decision from the judge for the narrator to have his liberty since no passengers were hurt in any way. The struggles that narrator goes to keep her safe, even though he might be the only one that sees her, despite of everything the irony between is an unedifying connection. The fire that’s burning from within, slowly reaching to an extent whether if they have made the right or the wrong choices. The characters portrayed in the short story and in the film display love hearted type of personality to an extent when they come to realization of their actions. Such in the story Octavio Perez mentions “But never did I reach the center of her being. Never did I touch the nakedness of pain and of death. Perhaps it does not exist in wave, that secret site the renders a woman vulnerable and mortal, that electric button where all interlocks, twitches, and straightens out to then swoon.”(678). Meaning that the narrator never had the opportunity to be with wave in an emotional state rendering him to be vulnerable towards her. Striking him with so many variables that he cannot comprehend his mind to how he should respond too. As for “The House of the Spirits” all characters portrayed within the film all have struggles, including the struggle of love. Such as Esteban losing Clara older sister, but not knowing the Clara has loved Esteban ever since she was a child. Several years has passed, Clara and Esteban have become one with matrimony loving each other so dearly. The aspect of this is that no matter who you or what complications you face, love will be the genuine feeing
