But people who commit their lives to Competitive Dance don't agree. When people ask what sport do I do I say Competitive Dance then people tell me that it's not a sport. But technically it is because of many reasons but when people say it's not they don't have very good reasons many people say it could be either a sport or art but there is only one correct answer. Competitive Dance should be considered a sport and not solely a form of art.

Many people think Dance is an art because ballet is an art and ballet is a type of Dance. So people are focusing on this one thing and are not considering the other things and perspective and types of Dance they are just focusing on that one. I do agree that ballet is an art but that does not mean Dance is too. Ballet is an art because people will sit through 2-3 hour shows that tell a story like the Nutcracker, Coppelia, Swan Lake and Cinderella and many more. Just because one thing is not a sport does not mean the rest isn’t
There are millions of cheerleaders in America and all around the world today. They stand in front of hundreds of fans and try their best to get the crowd pumped up. They stand outside braving the cold as they are rained, sleeted, and even snowed on. It’s probably the only sport I can think of where you would have to wear hardly any warm clothing and still have to pump the crowd up. How can you not call that a sport?
What exactly determines whether or not an activity is a sport? The term sport is defined by The Free Dictionary as: A physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively, an activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively, or an active pastime; recreation.
The winning team in a dance competition is determined by a panel of judges. Some may argue that because the teams are not facing off head to head, dance is not qualified as a sport. However, a deeper look into the sport of gymnastics validates otherwise. There is no doubt gymnastics is an extremely difficult sport, which is why it is presented along with many other sports in the Olympics. The scores of the competitors are solely determined on the scores that the panel of judges decides to give them. There is a strict set of guidelines, which the judges follow in order to determine their scores. These same rules apply at dance competitions, so why would one qualify and not the other? Furthermore, multiple tests have been conducted at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute, ranking dancers from Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance among professional athletes in terms of overall athleticism (Wallace 1). This educated viewers and broke the misconceived stereotype that dancers are not
“An athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature.” According to dictionary.com that would be the definition of a sport. Let’s look at the definition of a sport from Cambridge Dictionary, “a game, competition, or similar activity, done for enjoyment or as a job, that takes physical effort and skill and is played or done by following particular rules.” Marching band has been around for many years and still to this day is underappreciated and there’s been a lot of controversy whether or not it should be considered a sport. If we were to follow the guidelines of these definitions, then why would it not be. Marching band is an exhausting sport and takes an immense amount of physical power and will to be done. Not only that, but it takes an almost impossible amount of skill. Finally, marching band is a majorly competitive activity. Most high schools have a competition about once a week for a season that lasts about fourteen weeks (or about three months). So why is it not considered a sport?
“Cheerleading involves skills which require the strength of football, the grace of dance, and the agility of gymnastics” (“Sport”). Many categorize competitive cheerleading as just an activity without any skill needed: there is nothing further from the truth! Competitive cheerleading is a sport that is dedicated to competition, fits the definition of a sport, and possesses a goal.
Competitive cheerleading is most definitely a sport due to the athletic ability that is needed, the way that there can be a winner and a loser, and the teamwork that is essential. There are more ways that this sport can be classified as a sport than ways that it cannot be classified. Cheerleading has come a long way from where is started. The difficulty that has now been developed in this sport has made more and more people realize that it truly is a sport. The next step for this new and upcoming sport is to have more and more people able to get scholarships for all the hard work they put into training. Who knows one day cheerleading could be put into the Olympics as a true
With four and a half minutes left of halftime, Annandale High School’s football coach, Michael Scott, forces the marching band off the field by shaking the drum major’s podium repetitively. Nevertheless, Michael brought his football players onto the field and did not realize that he was being disrespectful to the band, especially on senior night (Devorak). After participating in marching band for 7 years, marching bands do not receive the credit, recognition, and satisfaction that they deserve for the amount of hard work and time that is put forth into making a season successful. However, when the time comes for school boards to balance their budgets, marching band is usually the first extracurricular activity to get cut or does not have the adequate funds (Kerchner and Abril 249). Within the past few weeks, Hempfield school district was faced with the dreaded decision to either cut the marching band or rearrange their bus schedule (Knapp). Even though marching band is not considered a sport, did anyone think that it could qualify to be one? According to dictionary.com, a sport is defined as: “An athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of competitive nature” (“Sport”). Arguably, marching band has the capabilities of being recognized as a sport because of the physical activity, skill, and competition that encompasses each band program.
All cheerleaders like to prove that cheerleading is a sport, but a majority of people like to argue with them and say cheerleading is not a sport. Cheerleaders mainly think school cheer and competitive cheer are sports. Meanwhile, other people think school cheerleading is not a sport, but declare competitive cheerleading is a sport.
us to one conclusion: Ballet is a sport. The fact that Ballet is also an art does not compromise this
The definition of a sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Dance is a sport because it meets those expectations. Yes maybe anyone can dance, but not everyone can dance great and with such a passion. I believe that people underestimate dancers because it is very physically and mentally to them. We aren't weak or cry babies.
Is dance a sport or not? Some people in our world today consider dance just to be all frilly and fragile. Dance takes time, effort, determination and impeccable strength. I believe that dance is a sport because it has the same components as any other sport. In any other sport you need to work hard with a lot of effort, and that is exactly what dancers do. For example, most beginning dancers practice between five to ten hours a week. Although most people in our world today look at dancing as nothing more than tutus and twirling, a good dancer must have a mind mentally engaged, a body able to endure physical challenges, and toned dedication and skill.
A sport is usually defined as competitive. Horseback riding is very fun and just as competitive as any other sport. Also it is kind of special and different because it includes different types of events. Also it includes lots of clothing and equipment, which can be expensive but totally worth it. These events would include gymkhana, dressage, showmanship and jumping. It is not like

To many, dance is only an art. In reality, dance is much more. It 's an art, a sport, a way to express one’s self, a way to exercise, a way to get feelings out.
