Ever since I was seven I’ve been a cheerleader and my mom has been my coach. Now I am thirteen and I still do cheerleading, but instead of football cheer I do competitive cheer. The past two years I have been on the Kaneland Competitive squad and all two years the goal was to make it to the second day of a competition called state. State is the final competition were in the past competitions you would need to qualify for it and then at state, all the teams that qualified have a big competition and the top three go to the next day. Last year, was the closest out of all the years. When I arrived to the Sears Centre Arena in Chicago, IL, my mom and I checked in and went to my team. While we headed down to the mat, I could see all the other cheerleaders nervous as can be. Because all the teams in the arena had to go down on the mat, it was very crowded and hot. When my team found a spot on the mat, we danced like animals along with the music that was playing. After all the teams got on the floor, we all sat down and listened quietly while we heard the announcer announce the awards. Because of all the teams in each division, the announcer only announced the top three so it will go faster. After a while, it finally got to the division that my team was in. As we bow our heads and hold each other's hand tightly, we listen carefully. As each name was called, I got more and more nervous. After the last team name was called we let go of each other’s hand and looked around and cheered for everyone who did make it in the top three. “I am super proud of you guys and I have loved sharing this experience with you guys too! If you didn’t hear the third place team got an eighty-one and when I got the score sheet back from the judges we got an eighty! This probably means that we got in fourth place! I am super proud of you guys and I hope you had as much fun as I did coaching as you did cheering!” my coach explained with a smile on her face. The whole team said its good-byes as we all left the arena. Looking back on my experience with the whole team and the events leading up to state, I realized that if you work hard enough and do things that you love, you can accomplish or get really close to accomplishing the goals that you set your mind to and strive
