Ever since I was seven I’ve been a cheerleader and my mom has been my coach. Now I am thirteen and I still do cheerleading, but instead of football cheer I do competitive cheer. The past two years I have been on the Kaneland Competitive squad and all two years the goal was to make it to the second day of a competition called state. State is the final competition were in the past competitions you would need to qualify for it and then at state, all the teams that qualified have a big competition and the top three go to the next day. Last year, was the closest out of all the years. When I arrived to the Sears Centre Arena in Chicago, IL, my mom and I checked in and went to my team. While we headed down to the mat, I could see all the other cheerleaders nervous as can be. Because all the teams in the arena had to go down on the mat, it was very crowded and hot. When my team found a spot on the mat, we danced like animals along with the music that was playing. After all the teams got on the floor, we all sat down and listened quietly while we heard the announcer announce the awards. Because of all the teams in each division, the announcer only announced the top three so it will go faster. After a while, it finally got to the division that my team was in. As we bow our heads and hold each other's hand tightly, we listen carefully. As each name was called, I got more and more nervous. After the last team name was called we let go of each other’s hand and looked around and cheered for everyone who did make it in the top three. “I am super proud of you guys and I have loved sharing this experience with you guys too! If you didn’t hear the third place team got an eighty-one and when I got the score sheet back from the judges we got an eighty! This probably means that we got in fourth place! I am super proud of you guys and I hope you had as much fun as I did coaching as you did cheering!” my coach explained with a smile on her face. The whole team said its good-byes as we all left the arena. Looking back on my experience with the whole team and the events leading up to state, I realized that if you work hard enough and do things that you love, you can accomplish or get really close to accomplishing the goals that you set your mind to and strive
While cheerleading and gymnastics have similar moves and tumbling passes, the differences in the sports can vary. Varying from if they are a team or not, cheerleading and gymnastics are two totally different sports but also similar in ways. Even though gymnastics and cheerleading include tumbling and the difference in the level of difficulty in the tumbling passes. Cheerleading lifts people while gymnastics is all about how graceful you can be. A big bow, a part of a cheerleader’s uniform, makes the appearance of a cheerleader more interesting. Lastly, cheerleading is some team sport and gymnastics is mainly an individual sport.
Ever experienced cheer camp a famous college? Surround by its famous color orange and blue? Well, I did! A tremendous amount of people have their different ideas an exciting experience in their life. Although out of all of the exciting experiences I’ve ever experienced , I would have to say my favorite is when I visited The University of Florida for cheer camp my sophomore year. I was overly excited about spending four days at The University of Florida; I stayed up all night the night before packing and getting ready to finally stay at a college for four days with my fellow cheer sisters. From that experience I learned a lot about sticking together as a team, and friendship! But, most importantly, I learned that bonding together as a team is what got us to finish strong at the end. Those four days really opened my eyes to a lot of different things and I’m glad I can say that I really enjoyed myself.
That was my favorite part of cheerleading because a bunch of squads from different schools come to compete against each other to see who’s the best. We would put up flyers around the school so people might come to watch us but they never did and some were even taken down. Now as far as our cheer squad went, we weren’t that good still because we had an inexperienced coach who did not know how to choreograph dances or cheers. So we continued to be made fun of and not taken seriously by our classmates, which was extremely annoying because we just wanted some respect for the work that we put it. It was my final moments as a Chelsea High School cheerleader. My final banquet had quickly approached. It was then that I realized I was not ready for the season to be over. I stood in front of my friends, fellow cheerleaders, and their families as they watched and waited for me to recite my last words as the season came to an end. It took hours for me to write about what my teammates and my coaches meant to me. I did not want to sound too nostalgic since I’m not the emotional type, but I also did not want to come across as indifferent. It was a difficult task but I knew I could accomplish it.

...for my first cheerleading squad, in the seventh grade, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. In fact, the try outs were so hard and so demanding I did not make the cut. This did not discourage me at all; it only gave me motive to try harder. Next season I came back with a bang; I made the cheerleading squad. Cheerleading is an experience that I would never give up for anything in the world. I learned more lessons on teamwork here than any other sport I played, because in cheerleading I mainly had to communicate with the other cheerleaders. Cheerleading involved much work and effort from me and my team mates. When I first started cheering I was a fairly fat cheerleader; by the end of the season my body was perfect enough for a show all bikini, and this is the one change that made me genuinely realize, “yes, I am an athlete; cheerleading is a sport.”
Cheer, a diverse and dangerous sport is a very foggy subject for many. The majority of the population would say cheer is just a group cheering on a sports team. Before being able to define what cheer is, one must first look at current day competitive cheer. How cheer gained its stereotypes lays in its history, and rapidly evolved into a completely different function. With cheer being the number one cause of sports injury for girls under twenty, twenty thousand deaths from stunting, and seventy percent of girls sports injuries in high school, the statistics raises an eyebrow as to just what cheerleaders are doing. Cheer went from chants, to stunt groups, to worlds championships in just a century.
The team was ready, we had been working extremely hard for the past seven months for this. We were all in great shape and very rested. A few of the returning players were meeting me at my house to carpool to the final game of the state championship tournament. Everyone knew that the hard work had paid off when we won the semi-final game the preceding day.
With shaky knees, I hesitantly made my way up the large white steps. With the back of my hand, I brushed away a few salty tears of relief. As I stood at the top of the podium and looked up into the packed stadium, my mind drifted back to everything I had gone through to achieve this moment, the day I became a state champion.
Cheerleaders all share the same love, cheering; there is always excitement about being known as a cheerleader. Sometimes cheering can be a good and bad thing, but in the end it 's never a boring activity. With tons of people in the crowd, just staring at you waiting for what cheer you will call next, waiting to see who will mess up first, or who will say the wrong words. So many things going on at a football game, yet all you can do is stand there, look pretty, and smile.
I had been an entertainer for as long as I can remember, and although my sport has changed over the years, performing continued to be a major part of my life up until my sophomore year. I started dancing when I was only three years old, but I decided to do cheerleading instead when I was seven. Despite being naturally quiet and reserved, the stage has always been the one place where I have felt comfortable being the center of attention. I have done both school and competition cheer, but the latter was my whole world. There was no better feeling than winning with my team, which is why I was devastated when a tumbling injury forced me to quit for the season. I was also surprised at the different types of music playing from each team. All the music blurred together so you would hear different types of songs every time you listened. Finally, I found where my team was supposed to go and walked over to find them all stretching. I found my coach and saw her smiling,” You girls all ready?” she asked. We mumbled an answer overwhelmed by the competition. Our coach already told us that no team from West Union had ever won. So our hopes weren’t high. After we finished stretching we ran through the routine a couple of times. By that time I was super nervous. Before I realized it we had to make our way to the competition
