While working at a mental health company, I worked in a crisis house. The crisis house was designed to help those with serious mental health issues get back to a point that they were stable enough to function properly in society. While working for this company it was assumed that we as employees would be have the backing of the employer when needed. It was also understood that our job was to help but not hinder the personal growth of our clients. It was also assumed a company like this would provide structure for our clients. These things were absent within this company. The company lacked three concepts within the Competing Values Framework. According to Bolman and Deal, structure “is a blueprint for formally sanctioned expectations and exchanges among internal players and external constituencies.” (Bolman, 2013, p.46) When a structure is inadequate, difficulties result both between the internal players and the external constituencies. However, it is not as important to find the perfect structure, as it is to “putting people in the right roles and relationships” within the structure chosen. (Bolman, 2013, p. 45) When this happens, the structure will allow people to do their job well. The goal in my issue is to give safe and quality care to any mental health (MH) patient in our Emergency Department (ED). I have identified the following structural elements in my organization that are either driving forces or restraining forces toward this goal.
PART A: Martha Minow’s Five Unstated Assumptions About The Dilemma of Difference In Making All the Difference: Inclusion and Exclusion in American Law, Martha Minow outlines five unstated assumptions about the dilemma of difference and special privilege. The dilemma of difference is based on the idea that the identity of recognizing differences threatens the idea that we are all the same. In other words, the idea that everyone is the same leads to formal equality. The dilemma of difference is also about the “unstated point of reference,” which is when there is a failure to recognize difference as a problem.
Horizon House, Inc. (HHINC) was creatively established by a visionary with goals. In the late 1950’s there was a woman named Marcella Schmoeger who suffered from a medical condition that kept her hospitalized during her recovery. At this time, Marcella witnessed many psychiatric patients remaining hospitalized due to the limited supports available. Due to these observations, Marcella had a vision to help people with mental illness. Years later, Marcella began taking these ideas and concerns to others in the community to address the social problems that individuals with mental illness faced, thus, in 1952 HHINC as created (Horizon House, Inc., 2016). Marcella raised awareness to the supports needed for people with mental illness, moreover, there were visions and goals that were established and shared by others. Therefore, HHINC was built on qualities of transformational leadership.
It appears that we have been investigating the cause and effects of race and racism for quick some time, as a middle age adult in the year 2015, I feel that we have run into a brick wall which seems too hard to break though, too wide to get around and runs to deep to get under.
1.1 Explain how and why person-centred values must influence all aspects of health and social-care work.
The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott. Fitzgerald really focusses on the theme of misguided values throughout the book. The three individuals that are faced with issues on their personal goals are, Daisy, Jordan, and Gatsby. Gatsby has a deep obsession for Daisy and he does anything to make her fall in love, when Daisy herself is falling in love with everything surrounding Gatsby other than him, himself, and it seems as if Jordan is oblivious to the world. Fitzgerald uses image patterns in this book to represent flaws, those image patterns can be broken down into, voice, driving and the green light to illustrate the theme of misguided values.
Criminology theories are Conflict Theory which is based upon the view that the fundamental causes of crime are the social and economic forces operating within society. Critical Theory approaches to culture, and esp. to literature, that seeks to confront the social, historical, and ideological forces and structures that produce and constrain it. Labeling Theory is how the self-identity and behavior of individuals may be determined or influenced by the terms used to describe or classify them. Life Course Theory focuses on the stage of life that exposure to health promoting or harmful influences occurs and the duration of exposure to these influences. Positivist Theory concerns with positive facts and phenomena, and excluding speculation upon ultimate causes or origins.
The societal issue that I have selected is that of community inclusion for those people suffering with mental health issue and their ability to successfully integrate into the community, after years of institutional living. Two cornerstone of community building is movement beyond problem solving toward changing conditions, and the people affected should play a major part in improving the conditions (Homan, 2011). For those who are affected by mental illness, it is key that they are given resources necessary to live and thrive in their new environment.
This study is related to a case conducted at Faith Community Hospital to assess the problems due to issues with their mission statement and how it is being interpreted. According to the CEO of Faith Community Hospital, very few of the members and partners seem to be following the mission statement. There are issues with organizational processes, ethics issues, and communication systems. Many staff members are operating as individuals and not as a collective unit based on their values. A moment's distraction can result in a tragic outcome.

The conflict between values is the source of many conflicts and problems today. In contrast to the traditional conflict of values, the contemporary conflict is distinguished by these features: (1) extensiveness; (2) complicatedness; (3) profoundness; and (4) continuousness. The plurality and relativity of values is the primary cause of contemporary conflicts. The origin of pluralism lies in an interrelated trio of aspects: commodity economy, democratic politics, and individualism. The contemporary conflict of values is a historical process. Such conflict does not necessarily result in confusion; on the contrary, it can possibly lead to new and higher levels of harmony and vitality. In adjudicating value conflicts, we must (1) permit different values to coexist and respect different choices and the pursuits of values by different individuals; (2) consider the whole and the individual, the entire and the part, the long-term and the short-term, and attempt to have regard for both sides of the conflict; and (3) pursue the best and most suitable.

Understanding who we are as individuals can be a struggle for people throughout life. It can be difficult to comprehend who we are and why we exist. There are daily outside influences that help create who we are and what our values are. Values play a significant role in our lives. They shape the choices we make and reveal a big part of our identity to the world. Some values may be more important than others, but they still manage to influence our lives in one way or another, whether we know it or not. Values can range from a tangible item to an idea that has influenced us to stand by and remember those values. The values we hold with the highest importance act as a guide and help us prioritize our purpose and goals in our daily life. My family has taught me a list of values and traits that have helped me become a well-rounded individual. I value my family more than anything because most of my core inner values have started from their teachings at one point or another. My top values that I have developed from my family are dedication, honesty, and wisdom. I will discuss who I am in terms of the important values that shape my personal belief system and decision making framework that, in essence, describes the direction of my life.
