Jane Higgins, the author of The Bridge, published in 2011, has written an outstanding novel. This novel is based on a dystopian world, facing continuous war, death and conflict. Both sides are fighting for the power of land but despite that, Nik and Fyffe are crossing the bridge to get to Southside and find Sol. Higgins has used language techniques to convey Journey’s as the main theme in her novel. Many typical adventures in classic novels follow a pattern of events using the archetype, the Hero, which defines the nature of the protagonist’s journey. However, some stories don’t fit the layout of a Hero’s journey. The nature of this story structure often limits itself to the interpretation of a male’s heroic quest involving accomplishments in order to prove one’s masculinity. The alternate story pattern, a heroine’s journey, was created to satisfy the type of journey a female would experience. The heroine's journey defies the general perspective of heroism, instead highlighting the bravery in defying expectations of one’s character and refusing to be held back by the expectations of others. Walk Two Moons is a book written by Sharon Creech which tells the story of Salamanca Hiddle, a teenage girl who retraces the journey of her mother who left her. On her journey, Sal is able to relive her own story through her friend, Phoebe, whose mother also left. The book Walk Two Moons is representative of a heroine’s journey rather than a hero’s journey because Sal must leave her home to escape
Sister Flowers and A View From the Bridge are two short stories with strong correspondence and likeness. In the story, Sister Flowers by Maya Angelou our narrator Marguerite, a young African American female gives the reader introspect of her life and how a scholarly educated and aristocratic woman named Mrs.Bertha Flowers has made an impact on the narrator's life. While in the story A View From the Bridge by Cherokee Paul Mcdonald a man talks about his encounter with a boy he met on a bridge. Both short stories from the choice of character comparisons with both Marguerite and the boy on the bridge , The author's theme,syntax and symbols to overall effectiveness of both narratives proves that these two stories are more the same as a sense to their overall message they are trying to communicate to the reader.
The novel, ‘Between shades of gray’ written by Ruta Sepetys was published in 2011. In the novel, various character traits can be distinctively seen between the protagonists and antagonists. In the book, the main protagonist, Lina Vilkas is one of the characters with various traits such as hopeful, brave, caring, helpful and determined. Within the book, these traits can be thoroughly seen from the beginning to end.
This book teaches the importance of self-expression and independence. If we did not have these necessities, then life would be like those in this novel. Empty, redundant, and fearful of what is going on. The quotes above show how different life can be without our basic freedoms. This novel was very interesting and it shows, no matter how dismal a situation is, there is always a way out if you never give up, even if you have to do it alone.

The novels The Loved One, and Endurance can both easily be related to my life, and the world that I live in today. Each of these stories has a meaning that is timeless, and contains morals that can never be dated. Each story has something to offer the reader on many levels. It may teach a lesson, reveal a truth or just simply entertain. Out of these stories I will make a connection to one or more of my personal experiences, a text-to-text connection, and a connection between these novels and the world today. While reading these novels, one gets a feeling or a sense of frustration. It becomes difficult at times to understand the emotions that are running through the characters minds. Ultimately though, significant similarities can be linked to my own life experiences. Waugh and Lansing’s novels are classics in which many people can relate to. Everyone has hurdles and hardships in their lives that must be overcome in order to succeed.
Miller’s A View from the Bridge, originally written in 1956 as a one act play, has many features of a classic Greek tragedy. It is set in the Italian-American neighbourhood, situated in Red Hook, near Brooklyn Bridge in New York. It is in this community Miller chooses to dramatise themes of conflict, betrayal, love and obsession. The underlying omerta is present throughout the play and is the reason for the conflict as it is defied by Eddie Carbone, the Italian longshoreman, who destroys himself in a clash between his blind passions and primeval ideas of his own people about right living.

This play is about a family, which lives in America. They are bringing their relatives to America as immigrants who are going to live with them. But bringing them is not a good idea because by bringing them the normality of the play is going to change into tragedy.
Gail Godwin's short story "A Sorrowful Woman" revolves around a wife and mother who becomes overwhelmed with her husband and child and withdraws from them, gradually shutting them completely out of her life. Unsatisfied with her role as dutiful mother and wife, she tries on other roles, but finds that none of them satisfy her either. She is accustomed to a specific role, and has a difficult time coping when a more extensive array of choices is presented to her. This is made clear in this section of the story.
The play 'A view from the Bridge' is set in New York in Red hook. The
Michael Ondaatje’s The English Patient shows characters whose concept of identity is one that is based on personality and individuality instead of race and religion. The four characters all of different national backgrounds, come from different places and have wounds to heal from the war, but together they interact and form relations similar to those of a family. Similar to Ondaatje, who found a new home in Canada, the characters are in search for a home for themselves in a distant place which is also damaged by war. Ondaatje’s criticism of nationalism is shown by the effects of war and by using the desert as a metaphor of transience in that it cannot be claimed or defined, to underscore that all concepts of difference, borders and places on maps are all artificial and are in essence destructive.
