Comparing Poe and Whittman A successful writer is he who is able to transmit ideas, emotions, and wisdom on to his readers. He is cable of stirring emotions and capturing the reader's attention with vivid descriptions and clever dialogues. The writer can even play with the meanings of words and fuse reality with fiction to achieve his goal of taking the reader on a wonderful journey. His tools are but words, yet the art of writing is found in the use of the language to create though-provoking pieces that defy the changing times. Between the lines, voices and images emerge. Not everyone can write effectively and invoke these voices. It is those few who can create certain psychological effects on the reader who can seize him (or her) with inspiring teachings, frightening thoughts, and playful games with the language. These people are true writers… In addition, authors frequently lack originality and simply take the reader on all-too-familiar voyages into politics, morals, or religion. Successful writers are those who risk and go on to write about topics that many times others have been less willing to address. The product of these extraordinary efforts is compositions richly enhanced by human feelings and real problems that we encounter and relate to our everyday lives…thought-provoking discussions about religion, philosophy, or politics. These pioneering authors are not afraid to write about evil, the perverse aspects of man, or even sexuality… Their true voices have risen from behind the words taking shape in the minds of the readers. Few have done this, but in the 19th Century two remarkable Americans produced compositions of unequal quality. Their styles and the way they approach the reader are different from t... ... middle of paper ... ... something (AL 2139) Could it be that their originality sprouts from the fact that they have both been able to express so humanly the cries of the soul while at the same time leaving mysteries and ambiguity for the readers' minds to personalize to their own life experiences? Their distinct styles enabled them to expresses exactly what was on their minds with words, leaving behind all inhibitions. The themes of their compositions and the moral issues captured our attention. I think the reader was able to "feel" he was truly experiencing the story simply because so much was left as a mystery for our unconscious to reflect upon… I am convinced that this is the key element that makes both Whitman and Poe successful writers. Robert Frost and Edgar Allen Poe two amazing poets, who created many well-written poems, two examples are “Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening”, by Robert Frost and “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe. These two poems have many differences and similarities between them. A big difference between Frost and Poe is there back ground, but this is also a similarity, how they took their real life situations and turned them into poetry. Then, their life situations made tone in “Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening” and “The Raven” completely different. But in these two poems there is a meaning and the meanings are similar. The meaning in both poems is moving forward. Finally, a difference and similarity is the two poems themes.
They are the ones that with their unique styles managed to impress people from their society, and more importantly, continued to influence writers many years later. Although some of their works are considered a little out of tone with their time, perhaps controversial, one cannot deny that they are outstanding pieces of work because of their topic and theme. From satire to fiction, Washington Irving created a reputation for being the first American to transcend in America and England. Hawthorne used the events in his life as a source of inspiration, and better yet, his perspective of society and mankind, helped him write great novels Finally Edgard Allan Poe, a man with a troubled soul, managed to write entrancing works full of mystery, crime, and gothic themes. All three men were successful writers and no doubt their works will keep being an inspiration for many more
The very inspiring woman, that will be our keynote speaker today, once said “In the end anti-black, anti-female, and all forms of discrimination are equivalent to the same thing: anti-humanism” that is from the book “Unsought and Unbossed” by the one and only Shirley Chisholm. If you haven’t heard that name before you probably don’t know a lot about the black political world. She is most known for becoming the first African American congress women in 1968. But let’s find out how she got to that point in her life.
In 1968, Chisholm became the first black woman to serve in the United States Congress in spite of her being, as she herself termed it, a “double handicap”—both black and a woman. Chisholm held a long career in the U.S. House of Representatives. Chisholm swiftly made a name for herself with her brand of fearless politics. She highlighted key issues throughout her career. She fought for educational opportunities, racial equality and women empowerment. In addition to her interest in civil rights, she spoke out about the judicial system in the United States, police brutality, prison reform, gun control, drug abuse, and many other topics. As a political leader, Chisholm was courageous and maintained a strong sense of morality while standing up for her

Shirley Chisholm began her career as a school teacher and later was elected to the United States Congress in 1968, she was the first black woman to be elected into the House of Representatives and hold a nationally elected office. Chisholm had a long political career that was driven by her black feminist ideas. Her 1972 run for President is the most famous of her efforts, but she also served fourteen years in Congress (1969-1983), serving Brooklyn, New York (Curwood, 2015).

Mother Goose by Mary Engelbreit is an example of a picture book. Majority of children’s books are illustrated but not all children’s books with illustrations are picture books. Mother Goose is considered a picture book because it tells a story through a series of pictures combined with relatively small amounts of text. Mother Goose takes readers through a series of rhymes accompanied by pictures that help deliver the story to young readers. The rhymes in this book are short and simple leaving the images up to the readers imaginations. This picture book uses seventeen different rhymes to take the readers a long a journey of some of the most popular nursery rhymes to date. Some of the rhymes have important implications for children later in life like the “piggie” rhyme shows children that they can not always get what they want in life and someone will always be better off than you are.
