Comparing Paintings by Pablo Picasso and Alberto Morrocco
I have decided to contrast and compare paintings by cubist artist
Pablo Picasso and contemporary artist Alberto Morrocco.
I have studied their paintings to find out their influences and any
similarities between their work. I have tried to find a source of their
motivation and reason for their interpretations.
Firstly, I am going to write about cubist artist, Pablo Picasso.
Inspired by artist Paul Cezanne, the father of analytical cubism,
Picasso attempted many styles of work. He experimented with different
media and use of colour, throughout his artistic career. His paintings
reflected his moods and attitudes, which changed several times during
the course of his life. As a result of this, groups of his painting
can be separated into 'periods'. A very famous period Picasso
developed was his 'Blue Period', where the paintings of this time were
blue in colour and portrayed him to be unhappy. An example of this is
' The Tragedy' painted in 1903. The painting is of a family standing
on a beach, frozen like statues. In my perception, it takes on the
image of a snapshot, eternally showing these still lonely figures. The
painting looks cold due to Picasso's use of blue, submitting further
the idea of unintimacy and absence of love within this solemn family.
I understand why Picasso adopted such a melancholy atmosphere; it was
a result of his friend committing suicide in 1901. His use of thick
brush strokes and realistic perception of a family drowned by the
presence of poverty, portray an image of deep sorrow and sadness.
A painting that resembles Picasso's 'The Tragedy' is the 'Siesta' by
Alberto Morrocco painted in 1971. Picasso and artist Henri Matisse had
great influence Alberto Morrocco. Inspiration also came from his
principal teacher James Cowie, who encouraged Morrocco to make
painting his career.
The 'Siesta' shows a female child sleeping naked on a table. Sitting
behind her is a woman, presumably her mother, who is awake and holing
a sunflower. This also can be perceived as a photographic image. I
feel as though the woman is staring directly at the camera, her eyes
fixated upon me. This highlights one similarity between Morrocco's
'Siesta' and Picasso's 'The Tragedy' purely by choice of composition.
Another similarity I have discovered is that both art...
... middle of paper ...
...to be in this painting, the egg would have rolled off.
Both these paintings are similar also in colour. The colours used are
bright, strong and effective. I believe that the colour concepts bring
each painting to life. Picasso used natural colours to represent the
natural significance of the objects in this painting. This makes me
feel comfortable and at peace. Morrocco chose olive green, reds and
blues to capture the essence of his native Italy. This, in my opinion,
gives the painting a special quality and is very pleasing to look at.
Picasso's 'Bread Fruit Dish on a Table' is a fantastic example of how
he experimented with shape and tried to teach himself and learn
through experience the techniques of analytical cubism. He later used
this new knowledge to develop cubism further and create a new, unique
style which he called synthetic cubism.
Alberto Morrocco sought inspiration from Picasso's cubist phase and
tried out the style himself. ' Homage a Braque' is a very interesting
painting which clearly shows similarities between his paintings and
those by Pablo Picasso. However, Morrocco gave an incentive of himself
into his painting making it his own masterpiece.
In his time Hannibal was a Carthaginian general revered for his prowess as a tactician and is still studied today. He learned to fight, outthink his enemies and garnered much of his animosity towards the Romans from his father Hamilcar Barca who fought against Rome in the First Punic War. After his father’s death, Hannibal succeeded him as general to the Carthaginian army at the age of 23. Hereafter he spent two years solidifying his position and gathering support before carrying out an assault on Sanguntum. He later came to be known as one of Rome’s greatest adversaries when he led a campaign against the Romans in 219 B.C.E.
In four of Hawthorne's stories there is a struggle for power and control as a vehicle to obtain perfection or beauty. In "The Artist of the Beautiful", "Rappaccini's Daughter", "The Birthmark" and "The Prophetic Pictures" the characters are controlled by their desire for perfection in their creations, but they do not achieve their goals without sacrifice.
Surrealism was considered a cultural movement of the time and started in the early 1920s. The aims of the Surrealists of this time seemed to follow day to day life and all they tried to show in their works were to target dream and reality. It targeted the inconsistent of the reality and dreams. They also aimed to target the element of surprise.

Hannibal Barca was one of the Roman empires biggest enemies and a nightmare to its people. After the first Punic war his father Hamilcar Barca made him swear to one day defeat the romans and avenge his loss. At the age of nine years old he went to the altar and swore with his father to be friends with Rome. He would never be friend Rome and would eventually lead his army to Rome in start of the second Punic War.
After finishing his schooling, LBJ took his first steps in the political world. At a state railroad commission meeting, a former governor, Pat Neff, never showed up to give his speech. This gave LBJ an opportunity of a lifetime. LBJ stood up with great confidence and made a speech for him, showing his skills in public speaking. The speech, although generic, had a great affect on his political career. His initiative gave him his break into politics because a man by the name Welly Hopkins. After hearing the speech, Hopkins felt Johnson was a bright man and appointed him manager of his campaign. Later he recommended him to Richard Kleberg, who was a federal representative for the state of Texas. This was his passage into Washington. As secretary for Kleberg, he did most of the work and worked his way on up the government ladder to become President of the United States. These factors of initiative, ...
The Mona Lisa is one of the most famous art works of all time by the Italian artist Leonardo Da Vinci. This portrait was done in oil and it is a piece that looks very real. On the other hand, “Wynwood’s Finest” is a well-known mural by Abstrk, who is an artist from Miami. This piece is graffiti on a wall and it looks more animated, fiction like, than the Mona Lisa.
Brain washing is wrong on so many different levels. When people are being brain washed they are not given the opportunity to think and act on their own. Some people might say that brain washing is a thing of the past, but in all honesty, it is not. Some type of brain washing is happening every day and people may not even see it. In Aldous Huxley’s novel Brave New World, they started brain washing the people of their community at a very early age. In the novel they had the motto of “Community, Identity, Stability” and the people lived their lives by it. Today in our world we have brain washed people by extremely persuading them to pay taxes, to follow all the rules the government has laid out for us, we have the democratic and republican parties control and actions to elect people into office, and the whole idea that making kids go to college will guarantee them a better life. The devices we use to create such persuasion are statistics and media such as the news, radio, and electronic devices. These devices aren’t needed for brain washing ...
The life and presidency of Lyndon Baines Johnson could never be summed up in a word, a phrase or a sentence. Even hundreds of pages seem too few to capture the years of Johnson. Both books present Johnson as a political figure as powerful and memorable as Lincoln or FDR, each trying to show a complete picture of this huge man. History books will forever be puzzled by this enigma of a man, just as readers and students are. The biggest struggle is determining how one feels about the actions and effects of Johnson. Many presidents can be seen as almost completely "good" or "bad" depending on one's political ideology and opinions, however, when one looks at Johnson, it is easier, almost inevitable, to find nuances and contradictions which make forming straightforward and binary opinions difficult, if not impossible. Accomplishments are followed by nagging failures and triumphs are shadowed by relentless criticism. These two books (Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream by Doris Kearns Goodwin and A Life: LBJ by Irwin and Debi Unger) try to present a story of a figure that was larger-than-life, yet just a regular man underneath. Both books tell the story, but leave it up to the reader to decide how to feel, to decide if the good outweighs the bad and vice versa. They have to decide what to make of this man who, in his life, ranged from a confident young senator, a triumphant president, a defeated, tired leader, to ultimately just an old man hoping his story will live on.
...owerful enough to take on Rome. Hannibal was feared by many people including some of the Carthaginians. He was known for his bloody and cruel military tactics. A person like that could easily intimidate an army or group of people. He was a great leader because not many people at 26 years of age have the capability to lead an army including over 70,000 people. Even though he was outnumbered he led his army to victory against the Romans. If he had a bigger army and more resources than he did he would have had enough to take on the Romans and possibly defeat them.
Martin Luther King Jr. born January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia, was a Civil Rights activist during the 1950’s until his death on April 4, 1968. He held many non-violent protests against segregation. He gave famous speeches, wrote books and also won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. In 1953 he married Coretta Scott. To them, four children were born. King was a part of many groups and organizations that dealt with segregation. On December 1, 1955 the bus boycott began. An African American woman named Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger. After hearing of the situation, King decided to lead a bus boycott. During the spring of 1963 in Birmingham, Alabama M.L.K was arrested and sent to jail; from there he wrote a letter which he called his “Philosophy of Nonviolence” (“Martin Luther King, Jr.”1).
The Impressionism period for the longest time was considered to be the first distinctly modern movement in painting. The Impression period first started in Paris in the 1860s and its influence spread throughout all of Europe and eventually made it’s way to the United States. The originators of this time period were artists who rejected the official; government subsidized exhibitions, or what the French would call, “salons”, and they were consequently shunned away by powerful academic art institutions such as the, “Acedémie des Beaux Arts" (Academy of Fine Arts). Removing themselves from the fine finish and details to which most artists of their day aspired, the Impressionists during this time, their goal was to capture the momentary, sensory
In this assignment, I will provide the information on two, specific work of Arts that are unconventional. Therefore, after all the research that I preformed I actually discovered more than two, of course, but I decided to go with the most interesting to me. Justin Gignac created the first work of Art that I choose and the second one I choose was a building. The building is located in Sopot, Poland and it is called The Crooked House. In ending, this paper will have all the information about the work of Arts and the facts that back up the reason for the Artwork being unconventional.
Pablo Picasso was one of the most recognized and popular artist of all time. In Pablo’s paintings and other works of art, he would paint what he was passionate about and you can see his emotions take control throughout his paintings and other works of art. Pablo Picasso works of art include not only paintings but also prints, bronze sculptures, drawings, and ceramics. Picasso was one of the inventors of cubism. ” Les Demoiselles d'Avignon” is one of Picasso famous paintings; this is also one of Pablo’s first pieces of cubism. Picasso went through different phases in his paintings; the blue period, rose period, black period, and cubism. Picasso was a born talented artist, with his dad setting the foundation; Picasso became the famous artist of the twentieth century.
Cubism takes the opposite route for the same effect. Solid lines are drawn, but the painting itself is usually more abstract (as with Picasso). At times it can be difficult to discern what some paintings are supposed to represent. Bright, vivid colors infuse the pieces with more passion. The contrast between those not well defined objects and the punch of emotion gives cubism its personality and vitality.
