The image of what a woman is has changed so much. There is no longer the need to have a man’s approval for everything a woman does. The applications of makeup and beauty products is no longer a given but a choice. No more forced marriages with unhappy wives. A Doll’s House, by Henrik Ibsen is the story about Nora, Helmer’s wife, who treated unfairly and leaves Helmer in the end despite having children. Throughout the story the reader sees how she was treated like a child. Marabel Morgan’s,Total Women, and The Good Wife Guide are two articles that set a guideline for women who are looking to be a good wife. In any woman’s life the man in her life was the primary decision maker. Whatever his “ principles,” were you them to follow them.(Ibsen,2) The rules were the rules. Whether it be “no debt,” or “no borrowing,” it was a woman’s job to abide by the rules.(Ibsen,2) A “woman has no right,” where decisions are concerned.(Ibsen,43) In ,A Doll’s House, Helmer had strict rules about impending debt and unnecessary borrowing. That decision came down to the men in her life. Which led to many women being unhappy in their marriage. A woman's main purpose in a marriage is to be a mother and to follow her husband’s every lead. Most women in the past didn’t marry the love of their life. They married who ever their father instructed. It wasn’t about love. It was about a achieving a higher status in life.
