Creation myth is a basic type of myth. Normally, creation myths contain information and describe how the world is created in different ways, based on the country’s culture and geography. The countries that are located in the same area may have the same or similar myth, while the countries that are located in different area may have different myth. In almost every myths, magical or supernatural elements are included, and that make the story fun and interesting.
Japan and Greece are located in different parts of the world, so their myths have many different parts. First, the main characters are not the same even they are all gods. Japanese myth have six main gods; the first god, Izanagi, Izanami, Amaterasu, Tsuki-yami, and Sosano-wo. Greek myth have much more gods, which are Nyx, Eros, Zeus, Gaia, Uranus, Kronus, Rhea, Pandora,

They both have the theme about gods and have magical or supernatural elements in the story. The examples for Japanese myth are a green shoot that grew and reached the clouds transformed into a god, one god was making other gods, and gods turned into Sun, Moon, and storm maker. Magical elements for Greek myth are the mystery box (Pandora box), the bird (Nyx) that laid the egg and created the earth, and the gods’ story. Geography and cultures can be reflected by the myths. Japanese myth is related to the islands and the sea, this shows that Japan contained a group of islands which are surrounding by ocean. Also, the first child of the two gods bore a son who later became the emperor of Japan, and all the emperor since then have claimed descent from him. This shows that the emperors have some connections with the god. At the same time, Greek myth reflects that birds and fire are the symbols and very significant to Greece. According to these myths, we can see that even the countries are located in different parts of the world, they are still some similarities between
Most cultures have a creation myth, a story of how humans came to exist in the world. Often, they involve Gods of some capacity who exist without much question or explanation. Many myths have a common idea for the origin of the world, like Earth being born from water, a golden egg, or a great monster. The Mayan creation myth and the Babylonian creation myth are similar in that they both begin with water, and account the creation and purpose of man. They also differ, as the Mayan Popol Vuh chronicles a peaceful tale of trials to forge the Earth and sentient beings to worship the gods, while the Babylonian Enuma Elish tells of wars between gods that lead to the creation of Earth and of man as a servant to the gods.
Creation myths are made to explain how the Earth was created and to introduce information on the relationship a group has with their creator. In both Iroquois and Babylonian creation myths, the gods do not find the Earth below as their first priority. In the Iroquois myth, the gods only help out the Earth when they are needed, but in the Babylonian myth, humans have more of a relationship with gods as the god that created Earth is willing to go beyond what is needed to help better the human experience on Earth.
Norse, Japanese, and Greek mythologies, too, agree on a lot of ideals. They each contain a clash of gods and the death of certain gods in order to form life. The list of creation myths, and myths in general, that relate to each other could stretch out for miles. With these parallels, humanity can better understand earlier cultures and document the method to how mythologies change over time. Works Cited Browning, W. R. F. Dictionary of the Bible.
The creation myths that I have studied are similar in many ways. They also have differences that show an inherently different way of thinking about the world. All have creators-gods that make the world into what is now. There are conflicts within their world, and these conflicts change the face world. God to god or human to god maybe be involved in these conflicts. Their bloody struggles prove who is more powerful, causing change in the control of the world. Some gods are beneficial to man and others are self-serving, using man only as a tool.
Throughout history man has searched for an explanation of our origins and why we are here. Many creation myths are attempts of our ancestors to do just that. I have found in reading many of these creation myths, that there is also an attempt to explain why human existence is imperfect. The following essay will compare and contrast four creation myths and their explanation of how mans imperfection came to be.
The most common mythological theme across different cultures is the creation of humankind because everyone has always questioned how the earth was created and so forth. Creation myths are “usually applied to a mytho-religious story which explains the beginning of humanity, life, the earth and the universe as being the result of a deliberate act of supreme beings or being” ("Creation myths," 2007). Individuals from different cultures believe in a higher power known as God and they believe that the higher power is the creator of earth, animals and humankind, however each culture believe in different Gods but they all believe that God is the creator and that is the universal theme across different cultures.
Can religions and cultures be anything more than their history? Why do we have a concept of history in the first place? Obviously history exists, but like the human ability to conceive of the future, history seems to be a rare phenomenon tied with our ability for language and the telling of stories. What’s even more fascinating is the human ability to make up a history or to tell a story, such as a creation myth, that seeks to explain something that has not been witnessed by anyone and does not have any role in finding food or creating shelter. We do not have a physical need to know how the earth came to be or to know how it is that we came to be here. Still, creation stories exist in almost all human cultures and, amazingly, many share many of the same elements. The question is, why? Is it a coincidence that so many of them share the same elements? By looking at a comparison of two creation stories, we should be able to understand the meaning of these similarities better.
The gods and goddesses were thought to control different parts of the universe. For example, Zeus is the king of the gods, controlled weather. Or like Athena who was the goddess of wisdom. You learn about different gods and goddesses in myths. A myth is a story about a god or goddess. Homer, a blind poet, is famous for telling myths. He told myths because no one could read or write.
The first similarity seen in the comparison of these creation myths is the creation of man. The ancient Greco-Roman mythology has two accounts of man’s creation, both of which were created around the same time, yet the conflict with each other. The first account comes from Hesiod and tells of the five ages of Man. Throughout this account Hesiod tells how Cronus and eventually Zeus, the supreme god, creates the human race in each of the ages. This relates to The Seven Days of Creation myth in the book of Genesis because God is the supreme power that creates humans, just like Zeus in Hesiod’s telling. When God is creating the world, he states “Let us make humankind in our image, according ...
When the modern person ponders the formation of human beings, our mind automatically goes to Adam and Eve, whom were the first man and woman created by God according to the Book of Genesis. Before there was Adam and Eve, diverse cultures came up with myths about the construction of humans. These myths included: “The Song of Creation” from the Rig Veda, An African Creation Tale, From the Popol Vuh, and A Native American Creation Tale “How Man Was Created” Each one of these legends gives a diverse perspective on the creation of human beings.
myths. Creation myths are those that try to explain the origin of the world, the creation of
Each god will have their own corresponding god from the other mythology. Although they might be from different mythologies, in essence they are all very similar. If this is an essay about the similarities and differences between the Greek and Roman gods, then it would only make sense to start with the kings of the gods, Zeus and Jupiter. They are both the rulers of the heavens, and are the gods of lightning. Since they are both the rulers of the gods, they also uphold the rules of Greece and Rome.
Japan has many myths believed to be true by the Japanese culture. Such as: "You can tell a person's character from their blood type". The Japanese creation myth starts off with brother and sister gods Izanagi and Izanani. They dipped a spear into the churning sea and when they pulled it out the drops that fell on the water surface became the islands of Japan. Next the sun goddess Amaterasu, was created and was soon sent to heaven to rule over the world. She some time ago left the universe in darkness and chaos. Amaterasu sent her grandson to calm Japan, giving him the sacred mirror, sword, and jewel, which became imperial motifs.
The Japanese culture created myths to explain just that, creation, as in most myths documented it explains the creation of a being, place or land. Long ago in 600 BCE people had no real rhyme or reason as to ho certain things were made and or came to be. So much like all the other cultures they made up these stories to make up for the lack of explanation of things they had. So the Japanese created myths that explain how the earth and the Japanese islands came to be. So this essay will explain how myths explain creation.
In conclusion, myths reflect show us the Greeks view on the world, religion, and nature. Their understanding of the world is both similar and different compared to modern society. Myths also reflect the importance of gods in the Greek society and how each god represented something different. In addition, we can see the role of monsters in myths, what they represent and how were they important. Myths also show us the role of women in society and whether they were as important as men or not.
