The difference between violet and purple is that violet appears in the rainbow, whereas purple is a mix of red and blue. Both contain the energy and strength of red with the honesty of blue. This is the meeting of the body and soul creating a balance between our physical and our spiritual energies.
The Colour Pink
The colour pink represents compassion, nurturing and love. It relates to unconditional love and understanding. The deeper the pink, the more passion and energy it has. Pink is romantic, affectionate, thoughtful and caring. It tones down the physical passion of red replacing it with a soft loving energy.
The Colour Red
The colour red is a warm and positive colour. Red is energizing. It excites the emotions and motivates us to take action. It signifies leadership qualities, boosting love and bravery.
The Colour Black
The colour black relates to the hidden, the secretive and the unknown. It keeps things bottled up inside, hidden from the world. In colour psychology this colour gives protection from stress. It creates a barrier between itself and the world, it provides comfort while protecting its emotions, feelings, insecurities and the lack of self-confidence. Black hides, while white brings to light. What black covers, white uncovers. We all use black at various times to hide things from the world around us at one stage in our lives. Some of us use it to hide our weight, to hide our feelings, fears or our
Laura Esquivel uses the color red to symbolize love and passion in relationships. In the following quote "Mamma Elena had come to get a sheet or something and had caught Tita red-handed."(p. 136) The little box that contained mamma Elena's old love letters with her old love, Jose Trevino. Tita, being caught 'red-handed' may symbolize that her hands had been stained and contaminated with the love that was concealed inside the box.
One of the first few instances where the color red is portrayed negatively is when Doodle is just a small infant, and is trying to learn to sit up. Here, we see Doodle trying to be normal, trying to push himself beyond his limits, and turning red in color. This is seen in the quote, “Trembling, he’d push himself up, turning first red, the as soft purple, and finally collapse back onto the bed like a worn out doll” (Hurst 464). This scene uses the color red to symbolize that it takes every last bit of Doodle’s energy to accomplish everyday tasks. Him turning red, signals danger and possible early childhood death, because of Doodle pushing himself. This scene, however, is trivial in comparison to the ones later in the story. Once Brother believes that his not fully
Toni Morrison's Beloved makes one ponder the essence of life and death. It is a novel that can challenge the brain, and change an opinion about the supernatural. One of the biggest symbols throughout the novel would be colors. Colors such as pink, red, and orange are mentioned on numerous occasions throughout the novel.
The film, The Color Purple has very many different scenes that can have a very strong impact on someone. Within those scenes are multiple characters that portray separate fillings on the viewer. But, most of all, some of the characters are very important regarding the theme, setting and plot of the movie. One of the single most important characters in this movie that makes a very large difference on the way the movie is looked at in a whole is Nettie Harris. My favorite character in The Color Purple is Nettie Harris for numerous reasons.
The color green often shows up in The Great Gatsby, mostly as the color of Daisy Buchanan’s dock light. From the location of Jay Gatsby’s house, this light is visible. Readers probably know that the color green symbolizes envy or plant life, but also being the color of money, green stands for wealth. Traffic lights, invented around the 1920’s, introduced the usage of the color green to mean “go”. In association with Gatsby, the color green shows many things, including his envy of Tom Buchanan, and the dock light signaling him to go after Daisy and begin a new life with her. On the contrary, with Daisy, the green light represents the money that she has with Tom and stands as a firm skeleton for their relationship.
Black shows the ability to be able to protect and provide strength and comfort to those you care for. It creates an illusion of mysteriousness around everything. It can cause mood swings and depression. There are so many different ways to see black. Black is a color that has a broad view. Either way, the best way to describe this word is to think of it as the end and the beginning of something new. Black is endless. You don’t know where it ends, nor do you know where it begins so it becomes difficult to tell if a person has a true black nature or faux one. It isn’t widely known why, but black hides what’s on the inside. It gives false pretenses which there are many of in The Great Gatsby. It hides what someone’s true nature or intentions might be. They may have ill intentions, but it won’t be realised until far too late, due to the fact that the color black cloaks what true intentions may be. The Great Gatsby was not from Tom Buchanan’s point of view, so no one really knows if he is truthful with how much he knows or not. It could all be a hoax and Tom intentionally wanted to drive Daisy to kill Myrtle. Black is represented and traced all throughout the book. It starts from mystery and suspicion to hatred and reality. There is still mystery in the book despite the fact that the story is suppose to have ended. Black creates that void of emotion or reality to the point where no one truly knows if what was being said is true or not. With black, that is what you get, confusion. There is much confusion and misinterpretation that goes on within the book. Things are hazy which is most likely due to the fact that many things are still unknown. There is so much secrecy in the book. The same as there is so much secrecy in the color
With such a spread of possible meanings for red it is hard to interpret its true meaning, in the novel invisible man though red is mostly seen as a dangerous color or one of courage and power. Since this novel takes place in the 1930’s during the height of racism in America it does an expert job of showing how the power of whites overtook the blacks even though they were said to be free citizens. It is amazing to see how a symbol such as red can be used throughout a book to deepen the
It is commonly agreed that the colors are used extensivly in The Scarlet Letter as symbols. This is illustrated by the scene by the prison door, but the use and importance of the symbol grows as the book moves along. Pearl, is often identified with the color red, which Waggoner identifies as evil. Pearl is not an evil child in the true sense of the word, but she is a reflection of her parent's immorality and their love. The color red, along with images of bright glow show Pearl to be the product of a moment of passion between Hester and Dimmesdale. Just like the red rose at the start of the story, Pearl is meant to relieve the sorrow and misery.
Red is by far the most used color in this book. It is used so much because it has so many meanings. The color red is interchangeable with the colors crimson, ruby, blood, and rose. Red comes in various shades too, but with each different shade comes a different meaning. There is light red, pink, dark red, and

The color green can signify many things in the every day life, people may think of it as “go” or as something positive. F. Scott Fitzgerald is an author known to use a lot of symbolism in his writings. In his famous novel, “the Great Gatsby”, Fitzgerald uses the color green to represent various things. His use of the color green represents mostly what Gatsby desires most in life, but he also includes it to represent little things that need thinking to figure out.
...epetition of the color pink to describe things, brings a sort of humanistic quality into the work. It makes one see that all though the characters in the story are living in cyberspace, they do have human qualities.
