One main commonality between All the Troubles of the World and The Minority Report are that they both can predict the future. They both have technologies that allow them to know if someone is going to commit a crime. This allows them to stop the person from commiting the crime, therefore having a better, happier society. In The Minority Report, the system in place to predict crimes is under the Precrime Agency. The Precrime Agency, mostly run by John Anderton, has three mutant humans that no longer have any spiritual needs and wants, and mostly mindless, called Precogs. These three Precogs each predict a slightly different future, with one of their reports being the Minority Report, which is the one that is least likely to happen. Multivac is a machine, where all of the information on all the people in the world is stored. When people turn eighteen, they participate in a swearing in ceremony, where they give all of their personal information Multivac themselves, instead of their parents. Multivac then takes all of the information and looks at the patterns and is able to predict the likelihood of people commiting crimes. Multivac gives a percentage of how likely the crime is going to be committed, and the lower the chance of the crime happening, the less likely that the person is to be arrested. The use of technology that predicts crime in both stories gave both societies a false sense of security, but when Ben’s father was arrested and Anderton was told he was going to commit a crime, it showed that their society’s had
