Although Puerto Rico is a beautiful place it is a highly expensive place to live. The cost of living in Puerto Rico has increased a great amount over the past decade. San Juan's, in particular, is higher than Atlanta, Dallas, and Seattle but lower than Boston, Chicago, and New York City. One factor is housing prices which comparable to Miami and Los Angeles, although property taxes are considerably lower than most places in the United States.
In the early stages of North American colonization by the English, the colony of Jamestown, Virginia was founded in 1607 (Mailer Handout 1 (6)). Soon after the Massachusetts Bay Colony was founded in 1629 (Mailer Handout 2 (1)). These two colonies, although close in the time they were founded, have many differences in aspects of their lives and the way they were settled. The colonies have a different religious system, economic system, political system, and they have a different way of doing things; whether that be pertaining to making money, practicing religion, or electing governors. Along with the differences, there are also a sameness between these two colonies. Each colony has been derived from England and has been founded by companies
Many politicians have different views on what Puerto Rico should do. Should the island become a State, stay a Commonwealth, or become independent. Either way, it would benefit the island.
There were various reasons why the American Colonies were established. The three most important themes of English colonization of America were religion, economics, and government. The most important reasons for colonization were to seek refuge, religious freedom, and economic opportunity. To a lesser degree, the colonists sought to establish a stable and progressive government.
Puerto Ricans will have more opportunities as a state and it would bring more federal help for PR. As a state, Puerto Rico will rise from the poverty since they are below the poverty line and American statehood could be the answer to many of the problems the Island is facing. Zach Patton, author of ¨Does Puerto Rico really want to be the next state?¨ writes, ¨Puerto Rico 's economy is in crisis. The territory of 3.7 million residents is now in the seventh year of a persistent downturn, a recession that 's much deeper--and broader--than the one on the mainland...Roughly 45 percent of Puerto Ricans live in poverty, three times the national rate. More than a third of the territory 's residents are on food stamps. Unemployment last year topped 15 percent¨. Proving that Puerto Rico could be beneficial not only financially but in many other aspects in which both Puerto Ricans and Americans can
Puerto Rico is a small island in the Caribbean that holds a vast, and rich culture. Due to its accessible geographical location, it is often called the key to the Caribbean. Puerto Rico enriched its people with one of the most innate and unique culture different from the rest of the world. The colonization of Spaniards left us not only with myriad architectural heritage, but also with language and cultural traditions that beholds Hispanic imagery and representations. Our music, our love of dancing and festivities, as well as our practice of Catholic beliefs represents
Although it was never intended to be, the acquisition of Puerto Rico resulted in Puerto Rico becoming a colony of the United States, vis-a-vis the laws Congress passed and the nature in which the United States tried to "Americanize" the island. Puerto Rico was a colonial government in the hands of Spain, and although the Puerto Ricans hoped that with American invasion, more freedom would be granted. Unfortunately that did not change when the United States assumed control of the island. The social, economic, and political atmosphere greatly changed as well, and those changes were not necessarily for the better or better than what the Puerto Ricans had while under the control of Spain.
You don't grow up choosing where you want to live, especially if your family is not financially stable. By witnessing the deaths, crime, and gang activity; you adapt to the environment. My parents are undocumented and moved from Mexico to Los Angeles to create a stable life for themselves and their children. Working in construction, under the scorching sun everyday, my father pushes us to do our best in school and receive the education that will open countless doors for us, but it's not easy where we live.
Since I moved from Honduras to Florida, it has been some difficult first months, by having problems that every person that arrives to a new country can easily understand. Back in Honduras, I was a “privileged” teen, a teen that there daily routine is going to school, go back home, study, do indoors recreation, and go to sleep. Our parents put us on such a bubble, that the reality of our society, topics aborted on the conflict theory (on the textbook and A Brief History of Sociology media link), such as, ghettos, violence, child abuse, and delinquency were ignored, focusing only in my personal problems. With the knowledge that I learned this week, made me realize that those “privileged” teens had fallen into a False Social Conscious. That is to say, I made an effort to cover a little bit about my background and the main reason why I moved out (crime and economy), making room for my current personal trouble that is adapting to the society of Sarasota, Florida with my circumstances like, origin, religion, language, culture and ethnicity.
Cash flow is very important when choosing a living environment. Living in the city can easily be more expensive, if you do not know where to look. But it can also be very competitive with that of your spending in the country. Apartments can be very affordable in a rent-controlled neighborhood, and are much more feasible for families, or students just starting out on their own; whereas, in the country, you may have to buy a home or hard to find cheap rentals. Transportation costs, groceries, taxes, and utilities are common expenditures for any adult. But, many may find that a large amount of money can be saved on these living expenses in a city.

I have opinions of all the places I have lived. Each place has its advantages and disadvantages, and I am not sure if there is any place that really fits me well. In this essay, I will examine the bad and good aspects of some of the places I have lived. Then, I will compare what I consider to be "ideal" conditions with the good aspects of those places where I have lived. Lastly, I will choose the place that I think is best for me.
Location, location, location. Location is a very important factor in the success of someone’s life. Whether someone lives in the United States, or a small town in Thailand, every location has effects on its residents. Some effects are better and some are far worse. Fortunately I am lucky to be living where I am. There are many benefits for me to reap from living in the United States, California, the Bay Area and Castro Valley. Being able to grow up in my location has bestowed many advantages which include access to higher paying jobs, local opportunities, diversity, and a well rounded education.
Wouldn’t you prefer a nice, sunny and welcoming place to live in? I’ve got to admit, I really dislike Seattle. Overall, I believe Richland is a better place to live than Seattle. The cost of living is cheaper. The weather seems to always be nicer. Housing expenses are cheaper. The traffic is less stressful. The crime rate is lower. The food and gas prices are also lower in Richland. One of my brothers, who was recently married to a girl from Seattle, moved to Seattle, due to a job position. My family and I have visited him in Seattle a couple of times since he moved there and both times it has been rainy, wet and cold. According to Sperling’s Best Place, "It is 37% cheaper to live in Richland than Seattle" (Sperling’s). Most things that people buy in Richland are cheaper than buying them in Seattle.
Haitians and Dominico-Haitians are minority in Dominican Republic. They do the dirty work congricult construction etc) and get pay less than half of what Dominican make. Haitians live in poverty in the Dominican Republic (Ferguson 308-311). Dominico-Haitians, those who origin born in the Dominican Republic and those born from one or both haitians parent face the same faith or being deported to Haiti because their have problems in ¨proving¨ their Dominican citizenship and their fundamental rights (Ferguson ,312). The dominican government does not want to recognize the haitians right of getting citizenship, not even for those who have born originally in dominican soil, the law should recognize every child born in D.R not matter what nationality
