Compare Romeo And Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing
There are many similarities between Shakespeare's Much Ado About
Nothing and Romeo and Juliet. Was this Intentional or Accidental? Even though
Much Ado About Nothing is a comedy, and Romeo and Juliet, is one of his saddest
tragedies, the two plots share many common incidents. Did Shakespeare mean to
have these coincidences or did they happen by accident? In both of his dramatic
works, the Masque is a key element furthering the infatuation of the lovers.
Also the balcony scenes in both plays are crucial because without them the plot
could never have reached its denouement. It seems that God came into both of
the plays in the spirit of the friars, because they had good plans to keep love
together.
In both plays, the masque functions as a dramatic device which initiates
the love plot. It occurs in a social gathering, but not without the help of
costumes. If it were not for costumes the result of love might have been
drastically different. How was the masque used to get lovers together? In the
case of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo hears about the masque and decides to go,
thinking that he might be able to get away with this scheme. Upon entering he
sees Juliet and right away, he knows it is love. If he had not worn the costume,
the hosts might have ejected him from the party and he might not have met
Juliet. Much Ado About Nothing has a similar but also different approach
towards love at the masque. In Much Ado, Count Claudio is not able to gather
the courage to court Hero. Instead Don Pedro, who is one of Claudio's very
close friends, offers to go and woo Hero for his friend. This point is
illustrated by Don Pedro for his great plan to get Claudio and Hero together
"Thou wilt be like a lover presently/ And tire the hearer with a book of words. .
.. That thou began'st to twist so fine a story? "1 Don Pedro's costume allows
him to woo Hero, posing as Claudio.
Balcony love scenes are familiar from both plays. The love was disparate
in each of Shakespeare's plays.
Romeo and Juliet is arguably the most famous story about love in literature. This is in part because of the tension caused by the look the different characters have towards what love means and its role in life. These views were very important for the progression of the story. Their different views collided and caused much grief and sorrow for the characters throughout play. Many important events that propelled the story forward would not have happened without the various feelings towards love the characters have and how they felt of and reacted to the other characters’ view on love.
Romeo and Juliet are madly in love with each other and will go to any lengths to be together.
Shakespeare employs multiple expedients to expose the impulsive and emotional characteristics in Romeo’s behavior and personality. In the first place, Romeo’s internal feelings and perceptions help determine his full character. Also, the way others view him contributes and aids in proving his disposition. In conclusion, Romeo’s own actions and responses support Shakespeare in drawing Romeo’s character. The world recognizes Romeo and Juliet as an unsurpassed and classic love story.
Romeo, son of Montague and Lady Montague, is introduced into the story as a depressed, upset young man, moping over a girl who will never love him back. As he says to Benvolio, “She’ll not be hit with Cupid’s arrow. She hath Dian’s wit, and, in strong proof of chastity well-armed, from Love’s weak childish bow she lives uncharmed” (Romeo and Juliet I i 203-206). Romeo states that his true love will not love him as he thinks of her, as she intends to stay chaste and turn into a nun, thus upsetting Romeo and putting him in a depressed state of mind. He is a very extreme person, and in a way, that contributes to the hastiness of the whole play, as Romeo is always at either of his two extremes; his mood either quite happy or relatively dismal. He shows that in his thoughts, as he is at first convinced he should never love another woman, but then he meets Juliet only days afterward and forgets about his previous love. His encounter with Juliet is hasty, but he claims he “never saw true beauty till this night” (Rom I v 52). Romeo reveals his personality, and how quickly he is able to get over someone whom he thought he was in love with. However, after encountering Juliet and falling in love once more, Romeo develops an obsession of sorts w...
Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is a tragic love story about two young lovers who are forced to be estranged as a result of their feuding families. The play is about their struggle to contravene fate and create a future together. As such, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood would try and emulate Shakespeare’s masterpiece. This had been done before in many films. Prominent among them were, Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 “Romeo and Juliet” and Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 “William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet.” Both films stay true to the themes of Shakespeare’s original play. However, the modernised Luhrmann film not only maintains the essence of Shakespeare’s writings, Luhrmann makes it relevant to a teenage audience. This is done through the renewal of props and costumes, the reconstruction of the prologue and the upgrading of the setting, whilst preserving the original Shakespearean language. Out of the two, it is Luhrmann who targets Romeo & Juliet to a younger audience to a much larger extent than Zeffirelli.
To say a couple is star-crossed means that their relationship will not last and is cursed to not work out. However, this couple may have intense feelings for each other, but not be destined to be together. It is called star cross because people who believe in astrology think the stars control human feelings. That is of course an opinion and why Shakespeare wrote that Romeo and Juliet were star-crossed lovers.
Shakespeare My first impression of Much Ado About Nothing is that it would be a love story. Although it is categorised as a Shakespearean comedy, I found the many "funny" parts of the play were foggy and required you to read the scene over a few times before you understood them. But then again, I had to read the whole scene over again a few times to understand anything.
The movie Gnomeo and Juliet (directed by Kelly Asbury) is based on the story of Romeo and Juliet written by Shakespeare. It tells the tale of a boy and a girl from warring families who meet and fall in love. In both stories, Romeo and Juliet come from two different families with extreme hatred towards one another, both characters fall in love with each other at first sight, and both characters sneak around to see each other.
William Shakespeare has provided some of the most brilliant plays to ever be performed on the stage. He is also the author of numerous sonnets and poems, but he is best known for his plays such as Hamlet, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Romeo and Juliet. In this essay I would like to discuss the play and movie, "Romeo and Juliet", and also the movie, Shakespeare in Love.

Romeo, who knows the dangers of showing up to the feast, only agreed to go because there would be many girls he could potentially fall in love with. Before the feast begins Lady Capulet tells Juliet about Paris wanting to marry her. Lady Capulet asked how she feels about marriage and replies she does not think about it. Juliet then tells Lady Capulet that she will see whether or not she is able to fall in love with Paris at Lord Capulet’s feast. Suddenly a serving man enters the room and announces the beginning of the feast. Romeo and Benvolio arrive to the feast wearing mask. Romeo thinks going to the feast is a bad idea and that going to the feast will result in death as the ultimate consequence, but decides to go for just one dance and then leave. While at the feast, Romeo sees Juliet and immediately falls in love. The two began to converse and Romeo tells Juliet to let him kiss her so that his sins can be forgiven, and she does so. After leaving the feast, Romeo decides he must see Juliet once again. It occurs to Romeo to go onto the Capulet property and call out Juliet and he does so. As he calls for Juliet, Benvolio searches for Romeo in the street then leaves since he believes Romeo does not come out because he does not want to be found. Juliet then appears from a balcony and looks down toward her new found love, Romeo. The two decide to meet at another time and say goodbye. The next morning Romeo talks to Friar Lawrence.
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is a play commonly viewed and known as a true love story; however, after analyzing several hints portrayed by the protagonists, it is evident that Shakespeare did not intend to make Romeo and Juliet seem like a true love story but a criticism of how superficial society’s view on love is.
