To say a couple is star-crossed means that their relationship will not last and is cursed to not work out. However, this couple may have intense feelings for each other, but not be destined to be together. It is called star cross because people who believe in astrology think the stars control human feelings. That is of course an opinion and why Shakespeare wrote that Romeo and Juliet were star-crossed lovers. Romeo and Juliet were not meant to be a couple and live their lives together. They did love each other, although their families long feud rejected their fate of being forever together. In The Fault in Our Stars Augustus dies from cancer and that was the cause of being star-crossed lovers. The reason behind Romeo and Juliet being star- crossed lovers was because they both died at the end because their parents disapproved with a Montague interacting with a Capulet. In both stories, each couple had strong feelings, but it was not in their fate.
The settings of Romeo and Juliet and The Fault in Our Stars are completely different. Romeo and Juliet’s setting takes place during the Renaissance or the fourteenth century; that is the reason behind the play’s unusual word choice. The setting is set in Verona and Mantua, or Northern Italy. The Fault in Our Stars was around 2012 or when the book was published. Another conflict found in this play was the feud between the families. The resolution of that conflict is after Juliet and Romeo’s parents found the dead bodies of their offspring’s they decided to set aside the feud. These conflicts and resolutions are totally different with the book The Fault in Our Stars. A conflict in The Fault in Our Stars is Hazel has terminal cancer and depression, and the resolution of this conflict is, she meets Augustus and he teaches her to treasure life.
