Sins are important for people to live by because it was told in the Bible that sins are shameful and frowned upon but can be forgiven from doing right by God. As said in the Bible, Matthew 6:14 says “for if you forgive other people, when they sin against you, your heavenly father will also forgive you.” This verse relates to two stories which are “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Poe and “The Minister in the Black Veil” by Hawthorn. In the story “The Tell-Tale Heart”, there is a man who was obsessed with this one old man’s eye, to the point where he would come in every night to observe the eye. On the eighth night as the old man wakes up due to curiosity, the old man wakes up to his death of being killed by the man that did not like him for his eye. …show more content…

In “The Tell-Tale Heart” the man has a mysterious goal of trying to seek the eye on the old man. The man is desperate to go after this old man’s eye, describing the eye first by saying it is “the eye of the vulture (Poe)”, which meant that the eye is always watching like it wants to attack. Every night, he would sneak into the house at twelve o’clock to watch the eye and stared atit making sure that the eye will not open. He planned to kill the old man, as he was hearing things from the beyond, per in the text he said “I heard sounds from the heavens; I heard sounds from hell(Poe)”. The devil in the bible does tempt you to do things that you do not need in your life. The voices and sounds in his brain was the devil tempting and telling him to kill this old man and take out his eye. In the story “The Minister with the Black Veil”, the goal for the minister was to show people that there are other ways to cover up your sins. His goal is mysterious because he never told anyone why he was wearing this veil. Losing his lover, the respect as a minister for other people, all while risking it all for the person he killed and truly loved. The common goal between the two stories were they both had pity on what they both had done but still had a heavy sin on their
