Stormy Daniels, an adult film star, Karen McDougal, a former playmate, and Rachel Crooks, a secretary at Trump Tower, all accused President Trump of various sexual misconduct charges. Daniels and Mcdougal both came forward to talk about the use of hush money in their affairs with Trump, while Crooks, alleges the president forcibly kissed her outside of Trump Tower in 2005. These scandals have sparked conversation across the USD community. Three students at the university shared their opinions on the events, while evaluating Trump's performance as president thus far. Emma Kearns, a freshman at the university, who identifies as liberal, says that “It is disgusting, disrespectful, unhealthy, unpresidential, and just plain wrong that our president is having these charges brought against him.” Kearns explains that these scandals have emphasized Trump’s lack of honesty and integrity, qualities she considers necessary in a president. …show more content…
She says, “Trump always denies allegations, if he were to admit and apologize, I would have a lot more respect for him.” She adds that the most upsetting part of the situation is the way that Trump supporters are responding to the allegations. She explains that “Trump followers are justifying the misconduct with the idea that presidents in the past have had affairs. His supporters don't understand that two wrongs don't make a right, just because presidents have had affairs in the past, does not make what Trump is doing okay.” Kearns believes that going forward Trump must publicly apologize for his actions and actively work to improve his moral character. If he does this, she says “he might gain more respect from the people, and with this respect, he will be more likely to have an effective presidency. But until he apologizes and improves, the people will continue to fight against him and his
As Professor Tolson explains the shocking story of Willie Lynch, he explains that the actions of Willie Lynch were “diabolical” meaning pure or extremely evil. Mr. Tolson used that term to describe Mr. Lynch and other slave owner’s method, because only someone of their nature could think of these ways to undermine and degrade the working mind of their slaves. Willie Lynch used his methods to gain and have full control over his slaves. His methods were extremely evil, but very tactful. His methods worked because slaves become weak in the mind like Mr. Tolson explained, and eventually the slaves fall victim to learned helplessness. Learned helplessness can be described as a human being experiencing a painful event and is unable to escape or avoid
Before Clinton was elected President he had an encounter with Paula Jones in a hotel room. After Clinton took office Paula Jones then sued Clinton for sexual harassment. A short time later Monica Lewinsky began her intern at the White House. Clinton and Lewinsky began a sexual relationship. Judge Kenneth Starr was the investigator of Whitewater. President Clinton denied any sexual relations with Lewinsky. On October 8, 1998, the House would vote to have an impeachment and won. Clinton was charged with perjury and obstruction to justice. Bill Clinton would end up not getting kicked out of office by senate.
On September 11, 1998, former president Bill Clinton delivered the infamously self-proclaimed speech entitled “I Have Sinned.” In an attempt to convert the public suspicion and hatred back to trust and loyalty, Clinton finally confessed to the inappropriate relations with Monica Lewinsky. By deeply expressing his sorrow through his foreboding and apologetic tone, Clinton constructs various examples of ethos, uses stiff body language and blank facial expressions, direct eye contact, and crafts the majority of his speech on short and choppy sentences. The overall purpose of this speech was for Clinton to ultimately express his remorse for the regretful acts he committed, and also to ensure the American people that he will remain trustworthy throughout
This was a man who at the time was in the position of being elected associate justice of the Supreme Court. Anita Hill, who had worked for him as his personal assistant testified about these comments made by Clarence Thomas, "pornographic materials depicting individuals with large penises or large breasts involved in various sex acts. On several occasions Thomas told me graphically of his own sexual prowess (Smolowe)". This. Is. Not. Harmless. Garvis clearly did not take Hill 's words seriously and gave her own two cents about it, "Maybe he talked dirty to Anita Hill. Maybe He didn’t. Something obviously went on between the two of them that was sexually charged". What we are doing now is brushing off this man 's actions because a woman 's opinion is not valued enough because the attention was unwanted so there was no so called "sexual
On August 17, 1998, exactly one year after making the statement above, President Bill Clinton prepared to deliver a speech concerning a scandal that had gripped the nation for months. It is needless to say that this was an important moment during the Clinton administration. After accusations of sexual harassment, Clinton addressed the nation and admitted to having a relationship with Monica Lewinsky. In this critical speech Clinton set out to admit to wrong-doings, provide a few reasons for his action, and ultimately persuade the audience into moving on and forgetting the scandal. This essay will break down his speech into sections and examine the most and least effective strategies that Clinton employed and how well he executed those strategies. This is an interesting speech given under rare circumstances. Not since Watergate had an American president been under such harsh moral criticism from the public. By looking critically at this speech we are able to gain valuable insight into Clinton's motives.
In the world of entertainment, TV talk shows have undoubtedly flooded every inch of space on daytime television. Many of us have seen and heard the often recycled topics found on such veteran shows as Geraldo and Sally Jesse Raphael. Anyone who watches talk shows on a regular basis knows that each one varies in style and format. One might enjoy watching the sometimes trashy subject matter found on Jenny Jones, while someone else might prefer the more serious and light-hearted feel of the Maury Povich show. But no two shows are more profoundly opposite in the content, while at the same time standing out above the rest, than the Jerry Springer and Oprah Winfrey shows.
Hillary Clinton is an important character in the impeachment process and the sex scandal in general. As Bill Clinton’s wife, she is the most personally involved with the President, as well as the most personally involved in the subject matter involved with the impeachment. Since Bill Clinton’s wrong-doings stem from sexual misconduct, as his wife, Hillary Clinton has an extremely great involvement. Due to her great involvement in this personal matter, the public audience seems to associate their thoughts with her own (34% of the public thought that the scandal was a personal matter as long as Hillary Clinton was fine with it [U.S. News]). Meaning, the public feels that if Bill Clinton’s sexual affairs are accepted by Hillary, then they should be accepted by the country as well. It is important to look at how Clinton gets her points, what her motives are in doing so, and where her motives stem from because she is so influential regarding the President’s image. It is also important to look at the sexual misconduct between the President and Ms Lewinsky, as well as Hillary’s decision to support her husband, from the First Lady’s situation since women and their concerns are often forgotten when analyzing political discourse.
People are fascinated by the appeal of drama and scandalous behavior. If you look at any form of media today, it is engulfed by rumors, gossip, and questionable reports. We as Americans are so entertained by the wrong- doings of others, there is now even a popular TV show, Scandal, written about fictional impropriety taking place in the White House. One of the most well-known political disgraces in the history of the United States is the Watergate Scandal, which took place under President Richard Nixon in the summer of 1972. The scandal completely changed an entire generation of Americans’ view of the government and politicians.

Lately, the top story in the news day after day, months after months have been about William Jefferson Clinton, also known as Bill. Who could blame them, there is nothing better than a story out of the ordinary, especially one with presidential status. For the past months he has been the most talked about figure, being the essential topic for news, talk shows, late night comedy and even going as far as the big screen. Talk about 'Primary Colors' and 'Wag the Dog.' What has gotten to me the most however, were the constant flow of Republicans, along with a few Democrats, who just want to say how shocked and embarrassed they are along with the people of the United States. The president had not just become the most talked about figure, but also one history had ever seen, so far that is, breaking the record and becoming a topic of conversation and debate 'twenty-four seven.' The people, who I think were most affected by this crisis and feel very sad for, are the Republicans, since they had lost severe amount of sleep over the president's bedroom crisis. They had to perform their republican duties by shocking our brains with the president's affair with Monica Lewinsky. We had to ignore the rest of the world news and its issues while they plough through the valley of lies, abuse of power and something they called high crimes and misdemeanors.
He thought, and others on Twitter, that it was an outrage that people were condemning him by society to laugh off and make jokes about himself, that sparked controversy before. The author’s main claim is that the Emmys shouldn't have brought Sean Spicer and become a Twitter moment online. That people shouldn't used people who were part of the presidency to be a gag and invite them to special events, even though they were once considered intolerable. This is the author’s main claim because him as a viewer didn’t appreciate the non needed cameo of Sean Spicer as he thought people were being too forgiving after he promoted actions by Trump to then throw him under the bus. In the article there was something that was not mentioned in the piece that can add credibility to this argument/stance is that how previous White House Press Secretaries or any other part of the Republican party who have renounced their post seem to make appearances more often than people who have not done much wrong. For example, Omarosa who “quit” for personal reasons from her job as a White House liaison, is now seen on the Television show Big Brother, after not being known what she did in the White House only to give intel about what goes on inside there. However, compared to Hillary Clinton most people can’t stand her
One of the segments in the video is between Clinton and a talk show hostess. The talk show hostess tries to get Clinton to admit she changed her mind on same-sex marriage, but Clinton is reluctant to do so because, as she says, the hostess was really trying to manipulate her words. Clinton is right. If she were to admit she changed her mind, the media would invariably accuse her of fabricating her views to earn votes. This is pathetic. Isn’t open-mindedness something Americans value? Can’t someone change their mind because they realized they were wrong? The media is in the wrong, but Clinton isn’t exactly off the hook; she lied to the public. So, what is the answer to all of
Bill Clinton was hit with perjury and obstruction of justice charges for lying to Congress about having an affair with a White House staffer. He was later cleared and, as a result of the publicity surrounding the case, was the first non-Brazilian to be awarded the highly coveted Brazil Macho Man of the Year
An article by CNN Politics explains that, “Once again Hillary Clinton laughed off questions about her secret email server even though it put our national security at risk and is being investigated by the FBI” (Clinton laughs off Christie's suggestion she could be prosecuted over email use). Even though an apology has been issued she still wants to avoid the issue at hand. As a U.S Presidential candidate she wants to avoid the situation to keep it out of the publics eyes. However, the subject kept coming up, so she apologized for it. It took a long to time to come out and apologize for what she did, but even then it was a very short
Lewinsky was once a young White House intern who had an affair with the President, Bill Clinton. Within a day popular magazines featured her story, she received countless online threats and fell victim to constant public humiliation. She states, “Overnight I went from a completely private figure to a publicly ashamed one”(Lewinsky). As the Clinton scandal became the public’s focus, the public treated her in unimaginable ways. Monica was also one of the first to become victim of things “going viral” and the rapid dissemination of information and mass media. On top of this, there was little to no awareness of its impacts because it was nuanced. During her talk, she remembers her parents fearing that she would be humiliated to death (Lewinsky). She became so traumatized that she couldn’t even lead a normal life for about ten years. Demonstrating that shame is not a proper way to deal with social order as it can negatively alter a person’s life. Although there is more awareness of public shaming, it does not lessen the impact on individuals and our society still needs to implement programs or assistance. To strengthen our society, we must encourage and support individuals rather than tear them down. For the greater good of humanity, shame should be controlled to avoid
