Martin Luther King Jr. and George Wallace both had opposing viewpoints on the civil rights movement. In 1963, George Wallace wrote the Inaugural Address and Martin Luther king Jr. wrote the “I have a dream” speech. In George Wallace’s speech, George had a calm tone Of voice he wanted to keep segregation, he was against civil rights, and then there is the outcome. George Wallace wanted to keep segregation towards the north and south. Wallace Claims that that he doesn’t feel safe having the black folk in a white community. In 1963 George Wallace believes that they will only cause destruction and he will not have the children’s life be put at risk. In the late 1940’s and early 1950’s there were many issues that involved racial segregation with many different communities. A lot of people did not took a stand for these issues until they were addressed by other racial groups. Mendez vs Westminster and Brown vs The Board of Education, were related cases that had to take a stand to make a change. These two cases helped many people with different races to come together and be able to go to school even if a person was different than the rest.
Martin Luther King Jr. “I Have a Dream” speech was delivered as motivation to fight for their rights and help paint the picture of what America could look like in the future. He does this by in the beginning saying that even though the Emancipation Proclamation was signed African Americans are not treated as normal citizens. Booker T. Washington was an African American leader who established an African-American college in 1181. Then in 1895 delivered the Atlanta Compromise Speech to an audience of mainly Southerners, but some Northerners were present. In his speech he made a few points. One of the greatest speakers for the black civil rights movement was Martin Luther King, Jr. Two of his pieces that stand out the most, was the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” and “I Have a Dream”. The Letter From Birmingham Jail is exactly that, it’s a letter that King had wrote while he was in jail, to a group of clergy members who disapproved of his action in Birmingham City. I Have a Dream was speech that was delivered in Washington, DC at Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963. This speech was written to inspire people to look beyond themselves and also demanded the country unity focusing on equality for all without focusing on the color of their skin; King also wanted the people to take a stand in a nonviolence manner. The Letter from Birmingham Jail and I Have a Dream, have many similarities and differences between the two pieces.
King explained that, even though the laws had granted equal rights to all black people, the white supremacy wasn’t changed just by these acts. To most white people, civil rights movements, only made them realized that how cruel they did to those black people and they should treat them with some decent, but never really led them to think that Black American was as equal as themselves. He also addressed that this dominant ideology led to many structural obstacles, which impeded the implementation of those legislations in almost every structure of life, including the economic market, educational institution and public services. In Education, even many years after the Supreme Court decision on abolishing school segregation, there only a few integration schools existed. The segregated elementary schools received fewer fund and were in the harsher condition and “one-twentieth as many African American as whites attend college, and half of these are in ill-equipped Southern institution”(Reader, p.p.186). They both share a need for freedom. One wants freedom from segregation and the other wants freedom from being told what to do. Also they discuss religion and what it means for them. Using SWE will not guarantee that a student will become a doctor or a lawyer, however, they will have the opportunity to expand their education and achieve that ranking if they wish.

George Wallace was a man of his era who grew up under racist conditions. After the assassination attempt Wallace was a changed man. Later in his life, he admitted that he was wrong for being a segregationist. He has always said that he was not a racist, but he was for segregation. This visionary was responsible for the Civil Rights Act, Voting Rights Act, and Civil Rights Movement. Although he did not want them, his actions dictated the results of these Acts and changes. His dreams died, but they established rights for all minorities.
During the 1960’s, racial divisions were evident through the separate but equal laws throughout the south. Whites passed all of those separate but equal laws. Nonetheless, Martin Luther King Jr. supported both the working with whites and black children being educated with white children. His philosophy did not punish whites for their malice towards including blacks, but his philosophy did include embracing those who he felt were doing harm to him. Therefore, Martin Luther King Jr.’s philosophy made the most sense because he advocated rights of people, without resorting to the divisions that the 1960’s were used to.
“In 1950, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People asked a group of African-American parents that included Oliver Brown to attempt to enroll their children in all-white schools, with the expectation that they would be turned away”(NAACP). Since Oliver Brown’s daughter was turned away from the all-white school four blocks from her home she had to walk a fairly far distance to catch the bus to her all black school. “Separate free schools shall be established for the education of children of African descent; and it shall be unlawful for any colored child to attend any white school, or any white child to attend a colored school”(Missouri 1929). This was no fair to her because she is being forced to go out of her way when there is a school just down the street she could go to, but she can’t because of her skin tone. This is what the start for the education system changing forever was known as Brown vs. Broad of education.
Not only did King feel it was necessary to preach nonviolence in order to achieve equality among all Americans, he also felt it was important for his message to appeal to all people regardless of race. Despite of the injustice being inflicted upon them by the segregationists, King felt it was important for African Americans to love and respect people of all races.
