A topic that I lose track of time with, whether I am researching, playing, or taking care of is my leopard gecko. Leopard geckos are exceedingly interesting creatures. Each leopard gecko has a unique personality and mine is quite a character. My leopard gecko is a captivating topic to me. There are many things that Andromeda does that are fascinating to me. One thing that Andromeda does about once or twice a month, is shed. Andromeda, similar to a snake, sheds a layer of dead skin in order to grow. When he is preparing to shed, his color will turn duller until it seems almost a light gray. Once he reaches that color, he will spend his time shedding in his humidity hut, which a Tupperware with a damp paper towel in it. The humidity from the …show more content…
One fact that I cannot get over is that while leopard geckos shed, they eat the dead skin that comes off of them in order to gain energy back from the shedding. Another interesting trait that Andromeda does that is intriguing, is how he walks or climbs. He walks as if he is a cowboy, with long strides. He does not have adhesive pads on the bottom of his feet like most geckos. He has tiny claws that allow him to grip onto a piece of clothing, such as a sweatshirt. Luckily, that is where he is usually hanging out with me, on my sweatshirt. It allows him to spend time exploring the house, without my fear of him being lost or eaten. Sometimes when I am working at my desk, Andromeda will wander up and down my arm with his little cowboy walk. It is so funny the way he walks, I could spend hours watching him walk from pillar to post. Another aspect that Andromeda does, that is just enthralling, is how he will warm himself up. He will place himself between his humidity hut and his heating pad Then, will place his stomach up against the glass. He will sit
Christopher McCandless and Adam Shepard both did some similar targets in their lives, at the end it lead them to unexpected situations. Christopher McCandless was a young man who didn't believe in society and he chose to get away from that and left everything he had, including his family. He developed important relationships with key people that helped him on his journey into the wild. Similarly Adam Shepard was a young man who left with only $25 and a sleeping bag to go prove his point that the american dream does exist and to see if he can achieve it in a couple of months. Overall comparing McCandless and Shepard, Christopher McCandless had a greater impact in people, motivated many, and was selfish in plenty of good ways.
The 2010’s and the 1950’s were two very important decades for women and their roles in society. The 2010’s is the social media era, where everything is online and electronic. 1950 is often called the hip decade. This was the decade where house wives were summed up in two words, June Cleaver. Wives catered to their husbands and took care of his every need before considering their own needs. Their “uniforms” were starch-ironed dresses with a spotless apron over it, accented with a string of pearls around their necks and a slim figure all around even after bearing forth at least three children, and to complete the entire outfit a pair of kitten heels. But most importantly they held the family together (Stoneham).
The book and movie “The Landlady” by Roald Dahl is about a young man called Billy Weaver who is looking for a bed and breakfast to stay for the night. He comes across a low priced hotel with a peculiar landlady who knows how to make an eerie night for her customers. The book and movie have two key differences and one important similarity. The setting in both the book and movie are different, changing the mood. The resolution is different which gives the reader/viewer an opposing view. Billy’s choice in the beginning of the story and movie gives the same plot. If any of these ideas had been the same between the movie and book, or had been changed, there would be contrasting thoughts from the reader/viewer.
Why do directors choose to stay faithful to or depart from a text when they are producing a film? Many directors choose to either alter or maintain literary elements such as characters, plot, and resolution from a text. The presence or lack of these specific features affects the audience. For instance, in the story “The Monkey’s Paw”, a classic short horror story written by W.W. Jacobs, and its accompanying film, the similarities and differences in the characters, plot, and resolution have an effect on the readers and viewers.
The ultimate goal in life is to find love. Both “Senior’s” by Alberto Rios and “Last Night” by Sharon Olds present a theme that sex is not love. Yet, “Senior’s” shows how a person’s view of sex and love changes with maturity, while “Last Night” tells that love does not come with sex.
College writing has numerous aspects. Successful College Writing by Kathleen T. McWhorter does well in covering many of those aspects. Consisting of a good deal of example essays, Successful College Writing helps students learn about the different parts of making a quality formal essay. Some of the example essays in the book work hand-in-hand in getting points across. Two that work well together are Dearly Disconnected by Ian Frazier and Is Sharing Files Online Killing Music? by Jonathan Adamczak. Both display how to write about topics like change. Since the two essays have similar writing styles and topics, it would do a student well to review them.
A vignette from The House on Mango Street, "Those Who Don't," by Sandra Cisneros, the poem "My Parents Kept Me from Children Who Were Rough," by Stephen Spender, and another poem "We Real Cool," by Gwendolyn Brooks share many similarities and differences. These three pieces of literature talk about racism and rough children. "Those Who Don't" is about racism and how people think about others without getting to know them. "My Parents Kept Me from Children Who Were Rough" explains how a good child wants to be like other children who are bad. "We Real Cool" talks about pool players who are bad. These pieces of literature compare and contrast between figurative language, point of view, and theme.
Freshman Year vs Senior Year When I think about change it really scares me, mostly because I hate change. But when I think about how much I have changed from my freshman year to my senior year, I’m satisfied with the changes that have happened because they have made me who I am today. From freshman me to my senior me, I have become more involved, more independent, and more friendly, but my standards still have yet to change.
For me, I find Oracles in Ancient Greece an interesting topic to talk about. And I am intrigued by the Ancient Greek culture and religion. And I realized that the citizens of Ancient Greece, did rely on the oracles a
Weapons, some say they are what win battles. Technology has become very developed over the years and with the advancement of technology, come many new weapons. From World War I to World War II many accelerated weapons where developed.
What is one topic I learned today? Why is it important? Why does this topic make sense to me?
Seven years ago, I moved to United States. Like anyone who had welcomed changes in their life, I had a hard time dealing with my new situation. It’s very difficult to fit in. In my homeland, life is harsh with the great gap of poor and rich, but my family got everything. Our lives were plentiful. We were not prepared to face the changes and challenges in the United States. My mother didn’t know how to get a job or how my two older sisters would get into college. It was not the same life we had in the Philippines. We left our homeland while my two older sisters were college students. My parents didn’t know how to help them to pursue their future here so my parents decided to let my sisters return home to finish their education. As they graduated with degrees and awards, the truth is, I sincerely respect and admire my sisters dearly, but I don’t want to end up like my sisters who finished college with so numerous awards and can’t get the job she wants because her degree is from another country.
In my Opinion I found The Most Dangerous Game better, of course they were both great stories but The Most Dangerous Game was more action filled. I liked how Sanger Rainsford used his skills to in the end beat General Zaroff.
There are eight planets in our solar system. The first planet closest to the sun is Mercury. Therefore, Mercury is the hottest planet. Mercury’s surface is cold. However, in the daytime Mercury can get as hot as 840 degrees fahrenheit, which is 450 degrees celsius. During night time the temperature can decrease to 275 degrees fahrenheit, or -170 degrees celsius. Mercury is the smallest planet. Mercury is the quickest planet to move around the sun. Its speed is approximately 112,000 mph along its elliptical orbit. Mercury can move around the sun in 88 days. There are craters in mercury, and scientist believe ice is in the craters.
Ever since the beginning of time there have been stars. Not only stars in the sky, but moons, planets, and even galaxies! Astronomy is defined as the branch of science that deals with celestial objects, space, and the physical universe as a whole. In other words it is the study of space, planets, and stars. Throughout the ages, many people have used astronomy to help them learn about the universe, our own planet, and even make predictions about life itself. Understanding astronomy means understanding where it originated, the different groups/cultures that used it, and modern purposes of the science of the stars.
