In the world we live in today, our life requires us to be active and most of the time we are very busy. For a while now the big controversy is are you choosing bottled water or tap water? There are many debates over the topic, however, most people would say that they chose bottled water because due to the fact that it is more adapted to our up-tempo lifestyles. Yes, there will be people who can say “you can carry tap water with you wherever you go too!” but there are various ways that bottled water is preferred over tap. People are drawn to bottled water more than just drinking tap because it is more cost efficient and bottled water companies also allow people to have jobs to support themselves. People against bottled water would complain …show more content…
“A two-year long test was conducted in 42 states and 141 unregulated chemicals were found in the water, 260 contaminants altogether” (Tap Water in 42 States). Another argument people who support bottled water could say would be that, “bottled water only accounts for less than one hundredth of one percent of all the world’s water consumption, so if BW companies shut down the world wouldn’t be really affected because it is rare it ever gets contaminated” (Fager, 2). Mainly the argument is that bottled water is preferred over tap because people are scared of what they are drinking and what's going into their bodies and would rather drink bottled water because they know it is safer than …show more content…
Tap water supporters can argue that even though tap water can get contaminated it is tested way more than bottled water is. According to Standage, “New York City tap water was tested 430,600 times in 2004 alone” (2). Another argument against bottled water could be that tap water is free. Tap water is free, but bottled water supporters will say it's only 10 cents a bottle, (but C’mon it's free!) The main argument people say tap water is better because tap water is way more useful in our daily lives, we can use it to cook, bathe, wash our cars, and fill our pools. However, there are many more downsides to tap than there are good. There are many more cases of tap water being contaminated than there have been of bottled water proving that bottled water much safer to drink. Also to say tap water is free, take into account that most people who rent or own homes have to pay a water bill. “Even a public water fountain is not dispensing “free” water – someone is paying to maintain it” (Water Is Not “Free”). Using water to wash cars, bathe, and cook all make the water bill higher making tap water way more expensive than BW.
Therefore to most people, bottled water will always be the way to go. Bottled water is less expensive, way more adjusted and suit to our active lifestyles, and continue to be the best water resource to go to during disasters and emergencies. What side will you take in the never ending debate between tap and
Many have always questioned if bottled water or tap water is better for themselves and the environment. Thesis Statement: The purchase of bottled water may be completely unnecessary as tap water in most municipalities of the United States is safe to drink. The limit of purchase of bottled water, would not only save consumers money but limit the amount of non-renewable resources spent in making and transporting the bottles, and therefore limit their negative impact on our environment. When reading through the list of options for our essay topic, I was interested by the impact of bottled water as I am a regular consumer of the product and rarely ever think of it's environmental impact. Therefore, I was intrigued to see what statistic showed, and what the different points of view were in regards to the product.
Americans use a lot of water, in fact the average American uses 90 gallons a day. (SF) Then it is not too surprising to learn America also has one the cleanest water reserves in the world. (CDC) A surprising statistic, however, is one-third of the American population drinks bottled water on a regular basis, when the majority have clean drinking water at home. (NRDC) This might be because the bottled water industry has promoted itself as a healthier and more portable alternative to tap water. However is it really any safer or better than tap water, or is it only a misleading and expensive gimmick to bring in money for large companies?
Some people may think that bottled water just goes through filters that get rid of the chemicals that are contained within it, and while they are not wrong they are, however, still uniformed. Bottled water is not only taken from streams and filter but “40% of all bottled water is taken from municipal water sources [a.k.a tap water]” (Bottled Water Pros and Cons. 2014. Para. 9). People drink bottled water so that they do not have to drink tap water when in reality they most likely are drinking some tap water that is mixed into their bottled water. On top of that not only has the bottled water been filtered but it has been found that “22% of tested bottled water brands contained chemical contaminants at levels above strict state health” (Bottled Water Pros and Cons. 2014. Para. 9). In other words, though the water may not have the same weird taste as tap water is does have chemicals in it that are at levels that are not safe to be consuming. When it comes to tap water which contains normal amounts of chemicals, bottled water is not safer to be

Likewise, bottled water is not subjected to the rigorous testing that tap water endures. Thus, bottled water is more likely to be contaminated or a source of infection. Twenty-two percent of the water tested contained contaminant levels that exceeded strict health limits. The safety of people could be secured by banning water bottles.

A chemical compound has been shown to promote the formation and growth of fat cells. In one study, scientists extracted and isolated cells from the hips, thighs or abdomen of female volunteers. Then, these cells were exposed to BPA for about 2 weeks. The results show that they have a significant increase in fat compared to other cells. (Hill 2016). Consumers chose bottled water for their top diet. But they don’t know bottled
