Compare And Contrast Aristotle And Xenophon

Aristotle and Xenophon were both strong leaders that had some similarities and some differences. They were both this leader who wanted to be fair to their people. They were somewhat fair you could say. These two leaders made sure that the upper class people had the most advantages than the middle and lower class people. The slaves on the other hand didn’t really have any freedom in their laws. They were taken care of and they got the food and shelter they need to survive.
How were men and women expected to behave in terms of marriage, sexuality, rights, employment, and property ownership? Xenophon expects men to marry young girls. So when a girl turns 15 or is about to turn 15, they are supposed to get married to an older man which is around the 30s. The parents gave the older man their daughter. They made sure that the women were indoors at all times and taking care of the baby and doing all the work indoors like cleaning, making food, and etc. While the men are doing all the outdoor work, so they would be in charge of taking care of the …show more content…

Aristotle way of defining how a wife is by staying home and taking care of the kids the whole time just like Xenophon wanted. But Aristotle also said that they should take care of the husband and fulfill all of his wishes. The wife would be like the husbands slave in other words. She would have to do whatever he says and can’t really say no to it. It said in one of our worksheets that “she will serve him more assiduously than if she has been a slave brought and taken home” (Oikonomikos 1). Their rights were the same as Xenophon for the most parts, some could vote if they were a citizen and to become a citizen you had to be wealthy and had to be on the upper class and have a certain amount of property. Slaves couldn’t vote at all. Women also couldn’t vote as well but they had to listen to their husband 24/7 and listen to them and be their slaves for the rest of their lives.
