The Impact of Community Policing on Crime Reduction One of the most steadfast strategies for addressing crime within urban areas is using community policing. Even though community policing has proven its effectiveness, some concerns have still been raised about the specific efficacy of where it is being implemented. The dependent variable in this scenario is the effectiveness of reducing criminal activity. The reasoning behind that is that the effectiveness of criminal activity can only be achieved by exploring interest and its outcome. It is built on community policing initiatives. Type of Data The type of data that is collected when answering the research question is qualitative. It is qualitative because it measures elements in varying lengths and degrees. For instance, the qualitative data collected in this instance is the degree of community involvement and the rate of effectiveness in terms of its rating. Level of Measurement Two variables are used in this instance. These measurements are the independent variables and the dependent variables. Independent variables are measured using ordinal measures and techniques. These assess the levels of community involvement. Dependent variables are also used to measure the effectiveness rating. These are the dependent variables that are measured using intervals or ratios. That allows them to cooperate in the fight against the common evil, the criminals who terrorize people who reside in urban areas. Community policing allows individuals to be more willing to cooperate with law enforcement, which increases efforts in crime prevention and intervention (Walker & Maddan, 2019). Community policing helps a lot in creating a problem-solving orientation. When working towards minimizing crime and disorder, police officers must be enabled to work closely with community members. That allows them to gain insights about the underlying causes of these problems and come up with solutions and strategies for addressing them. There needs to be a focus on the root causes of the crime, which will help restore sanity in all neighborhoods. Community policing also allows for the strategies to be effective at allowing them to be preventive against criminal activities. The community is allowed to heal itself by ensuring it expels criminal behavior (de Vocht et al., 2020).
