Common Practices in Religion The common practices within the religious realm can be referred to what is called indigenous religion. There are many regions that are geographically separated along with the cultures and languages that determine how practices are managed. Whether there are specific species or the worship of plants and animals depends upon the country in which indigenous people live. It is very important that the word indigenous is known to be similar with most people would understand as being native. The word religion literally means connect again, but it also can have many meanings depending on a persons’ spiritual connection or moral outlook that governs their belief system. In the opinion of many, religion is the connection of a higher power for some, a social class for others, and a way to connection with a group who share the same views of a higher being. According to the American Heritage Dictionary, “Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power recognized as the creator and governor of the universe; A particular integrated system of this expression; the spiritual or emotional attitude of one who recognizes the existence of a superhuman power or powers” ("Various Definitions Of Religion", n.d.).
