I have used it more this year and my students downloaded the program to their phones. There are 2 reasons that made me shift from TI calculators. The first one is brought by Common Core Curriculum which calls for students' sense-making, reasoning, arguing and critiquing and modeling abilities. Assessments include lesser multiple choice questions and more justification and description of concepts. Instructions should bring in more connections to real world, more visual and simulation. Desmos is a perfect vehicle to bring this kind of contents. In terms of assessments and evaluations, Desmos has an activity builder that teachers can share to students and colleagues. Sometimes raters have a hard time separating grading individuals from assessing how well the program’s curriculum prepares learners. To help faculty at NCPS view the QIPER as a tool for program evaluation, we pointed out patterns in CRs scores. Once faculty started to see patterns in scores themselves, the conversations moved away individual performance on the QIPER and back evaluating how well the curriculum prepares CRs to lead a QI/PS project.
Since 2010, there were 45 states that have adopted the same educational standards called Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The initiative is sponsored by the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers and seeks to establish consistent education standards across the states. The Common Core Standards is initiative state-led effort that established a single set of clear educational standards for kindergarten through 12th grade in English and Mathematical standards. These standards help to educate all of the students equally, they help children who move from state to state, as well as they help to prepare students for college and workplace. The common core standard helps to provide a clear understanding for teachers and parents of what is expected of the students to learn. It is designed to help educate our children for the future; it gives them the knowledge and skill they need to be prepared for post secondary education and employment. Common core is not a new method. America has set standards since at least the 1950’s and many schools have since then implemented a curriculum supporting this ideal. These standards in language arts and mathematics are supposed to help the nation prepare students for college and their future careers. The effects of common core, both positive and negative, lead to the debate on whether or not it should still be implemented in schools today, but thanks to federal funding it has made it hard to get rid of the program. It is because of this that the governor of Louisiana, Bobby Jindal has decided to sue the federal government for violating the 10th amendment. These are the words of Ed Rust, chairman and CEO of a major corporation, State Farm Mutual, when speaking about the Common Core State Standards. “The Common Core is a set of high-quality academic standards in mathematics and English language arts/literacy (ELA)” (About, n.d.). The Common Core State Standards, or CCSS, is reforming education in that it outlines common goals and understandings for students all across the nation. Educational standards aren’t a new idea; state standards were first in the early 1990’s, but each state was different. This meant that one states definition of proficient could be completely different from another’s. Nationally, students in the same grade were learning different skills and finishing each grade with vastly different abilities. Implementation of the CCSS is the reform education needed and will prepare students for 21st century learning and lifelong career skills across the nation.
What most teachers struggle with most is not rowdy children or angry parents. The biggest issue is Common Core which is legislation that creates standards for students and teachers made by people in Washington D.C. with no experience in the field of education. In fact, these individuals not only set standards for schools that are not doing well, but force schools that are doing well to adhere to standards that come from men in suits, not teachers or educators. What determines how well a student is doing in school? Most people would agree that the answer to this question is how good that student’s grades are. However, does making good grades always mean that they are learning the material that is provided? What seems to matter now is making the grades necessary to graduate from high school, get into a good college, graduate again, and from there proceed to get a good job and so on. It is a game that everyone plays in order to be successful in life; how you achieve those grades isn’t important. Schools should be focusing on students actually learning, and not competing to see who can get the best grades.

However, technology should never substitute the fundamental learning in our educational systems. Specifically, in primary school, building a firm fundamental education is crucial. Seeing children still using fingers to do simple math in second grade is not a good sign of academic improvement. According to Eric board when students took an assignment of translating passages of Othello into other dialects,some students used the texting dialect,”resulting in some very interesting dialogue between lago and othello. The kind of technology teachers are embracing on are high tech calculators,Ipads,smartboards,and a variety of sites. Today’s high tech calculators don’t just calculate certain equation iPads in the classroom are useful for both the teacher and the student. For the students, the iPad can give them some hints on the problem they are solving and maybe even keep a record of their grades that certain student has so they can easily check up on them at any time. While for the teachers they can easily set up tests and quizzes and even grade assignments quickly and efficiently.
Teachers and students are now “using their phones as clickers to answer questions, provide feedback on student progress, and also to document labs, collaborate on group projects and capture teachers’ notes” (Higgins). Students like to do things the fun way, and by using their phones as clickers, they can learn and review for tests while having fun answering them on their phones. Students can use services on their phones to turn assignments in, too. During group assignments, students can work right on their phones. If a student was absent one day, all another student has to do is send them the work they did with the touch of a button.
The school provided everyone in their senior years with an iPad where there an app that was downloaded in the iPad that can be used to design a house or a furniture.

During my time at this field placement, I noticed how Mrs. Anderson uses technology on a daily basis and wanted to give it a try myself. Students seem to enjoy it very much and from what I have seen, Mrs. Anderson gets a great response from the students as far as scores go. Technology in the classroom can be used for different types of assessments as well whether it be for a presentation, test or online activity. As a 21st century pre-service teacher, it is very important for me to know how to properly use technology in the classroom and how to successfully incorporate it into my curriculum. “Teachers must learn to use technology and must allow it to change their present teaching paradigm. This is not an easy task because change can seem intimidating and threatening” (Bitner, 1). I did not know before using the Technopedia site that there were so many different types of student response systems. I always just imagined the basic student response system with four A, B, C, and D buttons. However, the fact that you can have student response systems that allow for elaboration to open-response questions make this technological tool even more useful and effective. With so much pressure on standardized testing, this tool allows teachers to question and rank the knowledge of each individual student. Furthermore, because of the abilities of current Smartphones, the expensiveness of student response systems goes out the window in a classroom that allows cell phone use. I truly believe that both of these technologies can truly change and positively effect education.
