Commentary On Banquo's Monologue From 'Macbeth'

Monologue

Act two end of scene 3 Banquo has just returned from a meeting discussing the vicious murder of King Duncan where various theories have been said. Doubts and fears are filling his mind as he ponders the murder.
The scene is set in Banquo's chambers as he is pacing around the room.

I can’t believe the nerve on those men, Duncan has only been murdered a mere few hours and there is already discussion on who is to be the new king. And Macbeth already acting as if he has been crowned King and to even think that he has played a foul part in this devilish scheme just makes me sick. To think that just a few days ago we were still contemplating the legitimacy of the witches and he knew that I would only support his plan if it allowed me to keep my loyalties for the King. There was talk that my kin will eventually sit on the thrones of Scotland but then again they spoke in contradictory terms and one can’t even be certain as to whether they should be all declared insane. All I know is Macbeth has killed our King, a King that was really only fond of Macbeths accomplishments as I feel he never acknowledged my contributions. Come to think of it I have never received nearly the amount of rewards of Macbeth, he has always been seen as the brave warrior and I just as the soldier. As long as I can remember it has always been Macbeth, whether it be in our studies, combat skills or losing to him the love of my life, he has always succeeded. Oh Lady Macbeth how I wish we could have married, it would have been such a wonderful life and together our bloodline could have flowed through history. Know you must be married to a perfidious man such as Macbeth who I cannot believe is going to be crowned
