Araby is a coming of age story because this story tells how a young boy is growing up and experiencing his first feelings of attraction to the opposite sex, and the boy could do nothing but act his own impulses. Araby is a great powerful study of childhood, shows how the young boy is going into the stage of being attracted to girls, in the story it states “Every morning I lay on floor in the front parlor watching her door. The blind was pulled down to within an inch of the sash so that I could not be seen. When she came out the doorstep my heart leaped. I ran to the hall, seized my books and followed her.” This describes that the young boy was growing up and becoming attracted to the young girl. “At last she spoke to me. When she approached me the first words to me I was so confused that I did not know what to say or answer to her. She asked me was I going to Araby. I could not remember whether I answered yes or no. It would be a splendid bazaar; she said she would love to go.” Which shows how the young boy went blank once the young girl approach him because of how much he like her. “And why can’t you? I asked. While she spoke she turned a silver bracelet round and round her wrist as if it was a toy or something. She could not go, she said, because there would be a retreat that week in her convent.” However the world proves him wrong as he goes to the Araby because he wants to please the girl, she could not go and the boy decides to get her something because of the simple fact that he is really attracted to this girl and he likes her alot. The girl shows a difference from the world that the boy lives in from the world that everyone else lives in, which is faster than the boy life that he lives in n Richmond
