The Philanthropic level means to be a good corporate citizen and I believe that Colgate has fulfilled this description and the other three descriptions as supported with the many awards and recognition the company has received. With evidence I have displayed, my hypothesis was supported and has revealed how ethical Colgate is. Colgate is not a company that is selfish and just focuses on what suppliers can do for them but more on how primary and secondary stakeholders can benefit from Colgate and how Colgate can benefit from them also. In order to do this, those companies use many elements of ethos, but they also attempt to establish the superiority of their brand with logos and pathos. In the commercial, “Colgate Dentist DRTV,” the brand attempts to persuade consumers to buy Colgate Total toothpaste by presenting their name and relatable women, followed by attractive visuals, but ultimately the advertisement fails to provide enough logic to convince a well-informed audience that it truly matters which brand of toothpaste they buy, and that Colgate is better than any

For example, a small locally owned grocery store located in a metropolitan area just closed the doors to two stores located in high-crime-rated areas of the city due to no financial gains. The store just added a health conscious section for consumers that requested a need for it in the store, even though the cost and marginal is higher than most options in the store. With all of that going on the owner of the store was approached by a local food bank for one day old products that can be donated to them to help the community. The owner declined to help by citing that he feels by help he is opening a chance for loss of revenues due to employees not being honest. He thinks that his employees will just say that products are being donated when they are stealing.

Unfortunately, the very broad techniques of brushing and different types of toothbrushes create a confusing trend. Also, the research shows that 35 percent do not buy from a brand that they see as unethical even if there is no substitute in the market. Which shows a strong will and belief in consumers, especially to make a conscious decision not to purchase a good or service in which there is no other option for. In conclusion the research has shown that well above the majority of consumers see ethical issues as critical and often use their purchasing power to reflect that. This is due to lack of trust in many consumers who are wary of big brands using ethical branding as a marketing tool to lure them. Whereas small brands with unique attributes are seen as far more trustworthy and many consumers tend to support those brands, and for many that also means supporting small businesses.
