Cognitive milestones occurring from infancy to adulthood, and they influence and shape an individual’s future. Although, not all children have difficulty due of the cultural difference, however studies have shown that culture and socioeconomic status have an impact during cognitive growth. Culture influences cognitive milestone, because of the effects of social segregation still exist in our society, which plays a vast role in achievement gap. Socioeconomic status also has an effect on the child, because they lack or have abundant amount of learning resources.
Firstly, Language development is one of the major cognitive milestones achieved during childhood. At the age of three, there is an explosion of vocabulary development during this period.

According to Piaget, Hypothetico-deductive reasoning is solving a problem using a hypothesis or predicting the outcome from using logic (253 Berk). Logical thinking improves during the adolescence. In Piaget’s pendulum problem, adolescent participates were given different weight and length of string and told them to figure out a way to make the pendulum swing through the arc. Adolescences feel that they are always the focus of everyone’s attention and concern. This audience makes them self-conscious, and self-focusing and avoids embarrassments. Teenagers spend hours perfecting their appearance and don’t take criticism well from the public. This milestone occurs because of the physical and psychological changes they are experiencing (255 Berk). Gender role in imaginary audience have a greater impact on females compared to males. Else-Quest’s studies measured difference of self-conscious and embarrassment behavior between genders. Females are more self-couscous to embarrassment compared to males. Females are more concern with their body, food, and trends than the opposite gender, which makes them more self-conscious of their appearance and their surroundings (947
I learned the different ages that children are able to grasp concepts that may seem easily understood to adults. When I compare the conservation of mass task between the two children, I found that since Mason is in an earlier stage than Makayla, he does not quite understand things as well as Makayla does. Age is not the only factor that affects a child’s cognitive development. CosmoGIRL and Elle Girl were among the ranks of popular teen magazines, but in recent years have become exclusively online publications. Adolescent years are a time period in a human beings life where we search for a place that we are most comfortable. It is a time where we try to find friends with similar interests and those who will easily accept us for who we are. Once we are accepted by those friends, we tend to do more things with hopes of getting approval from “the group.” Trying to fit in during adolescence is a significant factor for self-motivation because it determines the level of being accepted and popularity amongst our peers. Through our year of adolescence we experiment and try to discover oneself as a person, but we also find what our strongest traits are that are used in order to be accepted, or to feel more popular. Popularity is defined as a state of being liked or accepted by a group of people (cite). As the group of people gets larger, so does that person’s popularity. For some people, popularity may come easy due to their charisma or looks, but there are those children who feel lonely due to their lack of popularity.

As the child interacts with its social and cultural environment, carers are subconsciously transmitting the prevalent culture It is up to adults to “socialise” the children into the appropriate skills so they can function appropriately.
It is at the beginning of this stage that children start tobecome able to have complex logical thoughts and are able to focus on more than one part of aproblem at a time. These logical thoughts, however, are limited to real world objects and personal experiences or events. Teenagers look to the media for a sense of entertainment. Whether it is movies, magazines, or even some aspects of social media, teenagers get a lot of influence from the media’s message. The problem with this is the media has a specific way of doing things and can be negative to a susceptible teenage girl. Media’s way of portraying a woman can be skewed and unrealistic way from what reality is. Teenage girls then have a desire for this look or way. In this essay the three ways I will describe as to why the media can negatively affect a teenage girls body image is by showing unrealistic bodies and women, women whose bodies are desirable by a mass number of people, and lastly not allowing all body types to be equally shown as “attractive.”

As children grow towards adolescence they go through many stages of development. Child development refers to the stages of physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and language growth that occurs from the birth to beginning of adulthood. All aspects of a child's development may be affected by many different factors, including a poor learning environment, lack of social interaction, cultural background differences, abuse, and loss of a parent. All of the before mentioned examples can affect the child's maturation, "a biological growth process that enables orderly changes in behavior, relatively uninfluenced by experience" (Myers 172). Children grow and mature at very different rates, some faster than others, which is why it is necessary to understand the importance of the different types of child development. Though all parts of child development are important, it is probably language learning that is most important to a child's development as a whole.
