Cognitively - based attitudes simply can be defined as the people’s belief on the quality or the characteristics of any attitude object. It is also an acknowledge belief on someone’s perspective view either from hearing or seeing on an object via means of communication or verbally. Cognitively based attitudes are logical and also it is closely connected with the fact. According to the book,”cognitively Based attitude is an attitude based primarily on people’s beliefs about the properties of an attitude object.”
Affectively - based attitudes depends on the feelings and emotions. It’s all about the feelings like happiness, sadness, joy, sorrow etc. Any attitude, which is, attached with the emotion and feelings of the people in any particular

thing then that is affection-based attitude. It also talks about the values and importanceof something in someone’s life that’s why people think with their heart rather than from their mind. According to the book, “an attitude based more on people’s feelings and values than on their beliefs about the nature of an attitude object.” The elaboration of likelihood model takes place when people are really influenced and motivated by someone or something logically. In other word, elaboration of likelihood is that when there is a fact about something then people are forced to do or take some action because of the fact and from logical point of view. Here attitude can be change or can be form. It depends upon how strong is the point. Elaboration of likelihood is related with the cognitively based attitude.
Here, cognitively based attitude means simply a belief on the quality or characteristic of any attitude object. It also has some fact and the logic part on its side. In another hand we have elaboration of likelihood model, which means people must be influenced or motivated if there is some strong point. From above sentences its very clear that cognitively based attitude have all those characteristics where people can be easily influence and motivated becausemost of the people, whenever, have to take decision they always look over the fact and they try to make decision …show more content…
logically. An example of persuasion through central route: When my friend jack, was looking for a car and planned to buy Honda. He went to several dealers for better deal. Suddenly his eyes stocked in the newspaper advertisement of Hyundai with 0 down, 0 first payment, 0 security deposit and 0 due at signing. It has a great style and versatile, fuel efficiency, safety etc. he pay great attention towards this deal as he found it was a better deal than he was thinking to buy Honda. He came up with this decision to buy Hyundai rather than Honda. This scenario explains that he pay attention to the advertisement. He was fully persuaded with the advertisement as it was very logic and it makes sense to him to get the great deal offered by Hyundai. As he was persuaded and motivated with the advertisement this example goes through central route of persuasion. An example of persuasion through peripheral route: With my own experience, I am always interested to buy a beauty product. I have a great desire towards cosmetics. I was reading a newspaper; suddenly my eye catches to “Cliniquefree 7-piecegift”. It was an advertisement about the cosmetic items offered by the Macy’s. As soon as I saw the advertisement I was very happy with the deal. I didn’t really look up the deal in detail as Macy’s always offer great deal occasionally. It gives a heavy discount, it gives a quality product, the customer service is excellent, and the return policy is easy. There are also other advantages shopping at Macy’s. So I went to Macy’s and get a very special offer. I was persuaded because Macy’s always offers a good deal. Besides I am a person with a huge desire over cosmetics. And the advertisement was of my favorite things in my favorite place. This whole scenario explains that this advertisement goes through peripheral route of persuasion. An example of persuasion using emotional appeals: Here’s an advertisement of “clear lake dental care” which makes an announcement or makes request to those people who are unhappy with their dentures, those who are embarrass with their teeth, those who are having problem in eating and those who are away from their smile.
It says their works are done very promptly. After they cures patient then they will have a strong, natural bites which means strong teeth.no messy adhesive, eat what you want, no gagging and look & feel like your natural teeth. These all things can easily persuade anyone those who are having a big problem with their teeth. This advertisement used an emotional inputting terms like “unhappy” to attract some customer so this scenario goes through emotional appeal of
persuasion. The world today is developing 10 times more than in the generations due to high technology. Similarly the marketing field is growing much more larger. With my personal view, persuasion has a lot more things to do with advertisement/marketing. These all terms are interrelated. To persuade someone is not a simple and easy thing to do. Persuade here means to change up someone’s mind. Thinking twice, really not easy. As marketing field is being successful these days I would like to say that the advertisement plays a vital role to make this field successful. Due to advertisement people are being persuaded and due to persuasion the marketing field id growing larger as a goal.
The result is a patient who understands the treatment plan and how it can improve their oral health. The professionals at Tropical Smiles Dental want to eliminate any pain and help people smile and eat again without any discomfort.
Social psychology is a scientific study that studies how people think, feel, and how they behave under the influence of other people (Aronson, Wilson & Akert, 2013, p. 2). Thinking about what social influence really means, we tend to think of a person who tries to persuade another person to acting a certain way. It can be a form of peer pressure, like taking that first puff of a cigarette, or it can be conforming to popular societal views, such as obeying the law of the land. Fiction is a great way to learn about social psychological perspectives. Watching popular theatrical films is the perfect way to learn because it illustrates the application of many perceptions within the subject of social psychology.
Cognitive dissonance is a communication theory mostly used in the field of social psychology in providing a theoretical framework in dealing with various issues relating to psychology. The title provides us with the concept that cognitive is thinking while dissonance is the inconsistency or conflict brought about. Cognitive dissonance manifests when one holds two or more incompatible beliefs simultaneously. This theory has been used and applied in several disciplines including communication, due to its simplicity and straightforwardness. The theory is commonly applied in these dynamic fields since it replaces previous conditioning or reinforcement theories by viewing individuals as more purposeful decision makers striving to acquire a balance in their beliefs. Cognitions are chunks or bits of knowledge which can pertain to any variety of values, emotions or values. These cognations can be related to one another or they can also be completely independent from each other (Cooper, 06). For instance, one may like to eat junk food, but may also be trying to lose weight. The two cognitions are related to each other in tha...
Aim of this paper is to examine and present the application of social cognition models in the prediction and alternation of health behavior. Social cognition models are used in health practices in order to prevent illness or even improve the health state of the individuals in interest, and protect their possibly current healthy state. This essay is an evaluation of the social cognition models when used to health behaviors. Unfortunately it is impossible to discuss extensively all the models and for this reason we will analyze three of the most representative cognitive models to present an integrated idea of their application.
Cognitive dissonance is having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, thus relating in behavior or attitude changes. Attitude or thoughts are more likely to shift due to one’s behavior and actions. Cognitive dissonance can be seen in Jonestown and the KKK. This psychological technique is used to get people to join the cult and ultimately become members. In Jonestown the

Cognitive change and motivation applies to my life in how I interact with friends and family making their own lifestyle choices. Making sure people I know are aware why they’re making changes and of the benefits that come from changes will definitely help them in the long run. Explaining exactly why attitudes about self-efficacy and normative beliefs, such as in the Theory of Planned Behavior model, provide a clear way to illustrate the importance of cognition in lifestyle change.
Attitudes can be formed in a number of different ways. The three component model consists of Affective, Cognitive and behavioural based attitude experiences and has been a main area of focus among social psychologists. These three components are held within most attitudes, however not all attitudes are equal and different experiences can change the ...
The social-cognitive theory suggests that personality consists of learned behaviors and mental processes. The social-cognitive theory emphasizes thoughts, feelings, thinking, values and expectations.
The cognitive principle: the core idea of the cognitive element of CBT is based on looking at different interpretations which people make of events (Graham, 2005). It basically highlights that when two people react differently in a situation, it is because they feel and see the event differently and gives different ‘meaning’ to it.
The constructs of the Theory of Reasoned Action and Theory of Planned Behavior are attitudes, subjective norms, volitional control, and behavioral control. All of these constructs affect a person’s intentions. Attitudes are beliefs that someone has that place a value on an outcome of a behavior. It depends on what a person’s feelings are about the behavior. For example, if a person views eating healthy as a good thing and something they want to do, then they will hav...
Discuss the social psychological approach in psychology and identify the kinds of questions that social psychologists attempt to answer.
Social cognitive theory is the study on how an individual stores, processes, and applies information about others in their everyday life. It was first known as the “Social Learning Theory”, and was later changed to the term known today as the “Social Cognitive Theory”. The definition of social cognition is defined as any cognitive process that involves one or more than one person. While the definition of cognition is unconscious process in the brain that bring about representations. Social cognition purpose is to study social knowledge, social structure, group behavior, social influences, social categories (age, race, sex) defines a person. (Science Direct) Social cognition is thought to be the outcome of social interactions. One will learn by observing others, this is known as vicarious learning. For example, one is more likely to follow another’s behavior if they can identify with them, whether it be personality wise, age proximity, and more. (Verywell)
Throughout the ages, humans have had an inherent interest in studying the complex area of human behaviour, even before psychology was established as a science. Because the study of behaviour is so broad and multifaceted, its scientific study poses particular challenges. Therefore, it can be beneficial to approach the scientific study of human behaviour from the perspective of cognitive psychology. This is the study of cognition, the mental processes that underlie human behaviour (Ling & Cattling, 2012).
According to Rousseau (2007:195) the single-component attitude model is unrealistic and a one-dimensional view of a consumer’s attitude. It has to do with the feelings of the consumer and view their attitudes as an affective learning process. Rousseau (2007:195) also mentioned that the single-component model is easy and straightforward to use and to construct a questionnaire from. The single-component attitude model is also popular to use with commercial marketing research. The single-component model only gives the indication of liking or disliking and not the real beliefs of a consumer’s attitude (Rousseau, 2007:195). The use of this model makes it difficult to determine the consumer’s real opinion towards the product or service, since it only determines whether or not the consumer likes or dislikes the product or service.
