Coffee VS. Energy Drinks
“the pros and cons of coffee” by Sebastein Stefanov and “Energy Drinks- some pros and mostly cons” by MDHIL Networks these two articles explore the topic that is very controversial today. Whether or not to grab an energy drink or a cup of coffee. more specifically should you be aware of differences between coffee and energy drinks and the effects on your health? These authors have explored the pros and cons between these two caffeinated beverages that are currently argue back and forth and have stated the differences between them. Both Sebastian and MD Hill networks declare that we relie on our caffeine to pick us up, to study or workout more efficiently. But they dissagree on how much of an effect they have on our health. to favor Sebastians article. In Sebastian's article he first exclaims that “ Coffee has no real nutritional value, unless you add cream or milk to it.
In moderation, the beverage does not really have any harmful aspects, but in excess, the caffeine in coffee can cause numerous problems.” (Pg.1, Stefanov) Some cons of drinking coffee he explains can be, stained teeth by turning yellow or brown, bad breath and aftertaste, and it can also raise your stress level by stimulating adrenal glands for up to 18 hours! Drinking coffee can also increase the risk of a heart attack, Sebastian states, “scientists have discovered that drinking too much coffee can raise the chances of having a heart attack. Coffee contains a compound called Turpenoid, which is known to increase cholesterol levels and hardened arteries” (Pg.1, Stefanov). Coffee also causes multiple stomach problems by raising the acidity levels and also induces heartburn. Decaffeinated brews also have the same effects as the normal caffeinated brews. It makes you age faster as well, “Coffee is known to reduce production of DHEA and other anti aging hormones” (Pg.1,
Stefanov). Coffee can be very addictive and it affects people on what their age is and also their weight. Stronger brews can increase the addiction process, although Decaf has potential of lowering the risk of developing an addiction process but once someone is addicted, stoping could result in withdraw symptoms including constipation, depression, drowsiness, headaches, loss of appetite and also nausea and vomiting. although with all the downsides of coffee there a couple pros of coffee. Coffee is of course an excellent stimulant, it can give you a big jolt of energy to wake up at work or studying for final tests. It also can improve or follow a meal of the day. Sebastian states that “in some cultures it is impolite to start a meal without drinking coffee.” (Pg.2, Stefanov) Another positive aspect is that coffee is the number one social drink. “Rarely will you see people chatting over a glass of orange juice; people want to look sophisticated and nothing beats sipping a nice mocha while chatting” Sebastian proclaims. (Pg.2, Stefanov) Another great advantage to coffee is that it can prevent prostate cancer. “Studies are still preliminary, but scientists have found a link between that particular cancer and boron, a nutrient found in coffee. Studies have shown that men who consume a lot of boron are 64% less likely to develop prostate cancer” (Pg.2 Stefanov) “Like anything, coffee is not bad unless you abuse it. It has its negative aspects, but offers enough good points to make it a worthwhile drink. Many countries around the world take pride in their rich blends, relishing the drink instead of simply consuming it” (Pg.2 Stefanov).
Caffeine raises your blood pressure when you drink/eat it, raising your blood pressure in general is not a good thing but imagine drinking and/or eating caffeine daily, and your blood pressure constantly rising. Another negative aspect is that caffeine can have a disruptive effect on your sleep. The most obvious effect of the caffeine is that it can make it hard for you to fall asleep. It can help you stay awake during the day but can also make you stay awake during the night when you are trying to fall asleep. It is evident that the primary reason for consumption of caffeinated beverages is due to positive effects, such as alertness. This is where you get that energized feeling. After about the third cup, knees start to bounce, pens are clicking and people start running laps around the office.
