“The current climate change is an outer mirror of our inner consciousness. It is an outer mirror of our attitude to try to conquer nature, instead of being in harmony with nature, but in the end the part can never conquer the whole.” - Swami Dhyan Giten. Climate change has been a common topic for discussion and debate in recent years. Many people question the idea of global warming and prefer to categorize it as a merely a theory. Whereas there are other individuals are certain about the effects and consequences of environmental pollution on the global climate. Although climate change is often seen as a theory, there are an abundance of facts to support its existence. Global warming or climate change is defined as, “a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants.” Those against the idea of global warming will argued that this gradual increase in overall temperature is not solely attributed to the greenhouse effect but instead a natural warming cycle. Although this may be true, human activities do not elude blame for the drastic increase in global temperatures in the last century. In the earth's atmosphere has accumulated immense amounts toxic gases produced by motor vehicles (11,000 lbs of CO2 per vehicle) and the burning of fossil fuels (21.3 billion tonnes of CO2 per year), these toxic emissions are also to blame for acid rain which damages crops around the world. Ultraviolet rays omitted by the sun and deflected off of earth is unable exit the atmosphere due to this blanket of pollution. In conclusion, global warming is not a theory but in fact a phenomenon. Steps must be taken in order to reduce environmental degradation that is caused by human activities, which continue to disrupt the earth’s natural cycles. People must put aside their own ignorance and inform themselves of the facts of climate change. If we continue to categorize climate change as a myth, there is no chance of returning the earth to its most prosperous for both the environment and all species including humans. The facts that support the existence of global warming are not concealed.
