It could be argued that in Mark Haddon's novel ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time," that Christopher Boone, the main protagonist, changed the most of all the characters. But it could be further argued that the other characters from this novel also demonstrated change. I will go through how much change Christopher experienced as well as other characters from the novel we will then see who changed the most. Throughout the novel, Christopher exemplifies that he underwent change. This is proven when at the start he couldn't do anything by himself and he really struggled with anything that was different from normal this is illustrated when each day he counts a number of coloured cars he sees in a row to signify whether it will …show more content…
be a good day or not. but he was later able to go on his own on the train to London by himself, "I came on the train, it was frightening" this was a big challenged for him and changed him as a person it also changed the wait that he thinks about other things, this is highlighted when he says, "I can do this because I went to London on my own." This evidence supports that Christopher changed throughout the novel. However, it could be further argued that the other characters from this novel changed as well.
For example, Christopher's father, Ed Boone, changed the way that he treated Christopher. Originally Ed lied to Christopher and kept secrets such as when he told him that his mother is in hospital. " Your mother has had to go to the hospital," "She has a problem . . . a problem with her heart." But when Christopher finds out that this is all a lie he says, "I did it for you, Christopher, I honestly did. I never meant to lie." But as the novel goes on he changes the way that he treats Christopher and tries to fix the broken trust, "you have to know that I am going to tell you the truth from now on, about everything," this evidence supports that characters in other than Christopher changed too. Many characters from the novel experienced change, I have talked through the changes of both Christopher and his father Ed Boone. Christopher definitely changes the most. This is highlighted by how Christopher was very stuck in his ways and unable to handle even the tiniest of change however he later pushed himself to break those barriers and ended up changing a lot. In conclusion, all the characters from Mark Haddon's novel, "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" experienced change, in particular, Ed and Christopher Boone, however, Christopher definitely changes most of
all.
People change everyday, whether it is from good to bad or for the better. People often say to themselves, maybe, if I didn't do “blank” this wouldn't have happened. However, the reality is, it happened, and there is no way to change that. Why go around throwing maybe’s around if you cannot change it? Authors purposefully make readers ask those questions. Authors love to create complex characters, characters that go through change. In Ellen Hopkins’ book, Crank, is the perfect example. Ellen Hopkins writes from her own daughter's perspective, Kristina, on how “the monster” changed her own life and her family's life.
2. Explain how a character in the book changed or is starting to change in the part you are reading?
First off, Christopher feels free from the world and that no one can touch him. Before the end of the book, all the problems between Christopher and his father are obliterated by the promise of honesty. In addition, Christopher’s way of philosophy is like no other. He uses basic common sense and logic for everyday thinking. He uses math and patterns to find places he does not know. This way of thinking is very critical to understand throughout the novel because Christopher is constantly thinking outside the box. Christopher believes he is a very special boy. He knows he is smarter than most people are and compares everything to what he believes or sees. He compares cars to good days and bad days, many times throughout the novel. The character Christopher plays in the book is extremely important furthermore, the fights and lies with his father make the book fascinating. Since he has Asperger’s the book is read from not necessarily a different point of view, but from a different way of thinking. Almost all the problems based in the novel are from deprived family dynamics. The household that Christopher is a part of, makes it difficult for him to function normally, therefore, understanding difficult facts to comprehend is tough in everyday
In how many ways can a person change in the course of one novel? They can change a great deal. Alyss changed from rebellious and mischievous to beautiful and well-educated to. People change in many ways, some you can expect and some you just don’t understand.
In the playwright Hamlet by William Shakespeare, there are many characters that change throughout the play. For example, Hamlet is one of the characters who changed a lot throughout the play. Hamlet changes a lot because at first, Hamlet was depressed then became suicidal and in the end, Hamlet wanted revenge. However, Ophelia is also a character that changes throughout the play. In my opinion, I believe that Ophelia’s change throughout the play is the most important because Ophelia was obedient at first, then she became depressed and lastly, she became insane.
Christopher during the course of the text of the novel learns to disregard other people’s judgments.
In the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, by Mark Haddon, we are met with a question can truth change. In the book the protagonist is Christopher, an autistic child living with his father. Throughout the book, many things that he thought to be true change. Firstly, Christopher thought that his father would never hurt anything, but he did. Secondly, he was not allowed to take the A-Level Maths because he went to a special school. Lastly, he thought that his dad would never lie to him and that changed as well. He had to fight through both the school and his mother to be able to take the test. Christopher had to go through much change throughout the novel.
Authors use character development to show how a person can change. Through a descriptive portrayal of a charter and their development they become real to the reader. A well-developed character stirs up emotions in the reader making for a powerful story. A person can change for better or worse and Nathaniel Hawthorne shows this thru the character development of Hester, Chillingworth, and Dimmesdale in The Scarlet Letter.
The novella The Call of the Wild is a story of Buck overcoming challenges while being thrown into the real world and learning new traits like persistence and resilience. Protagonist Buck is a colossal St Bernards cross Scotch shepherd dog, transforms from a humble house dog and then eventually returns to a primordial state as a best of the wild. Along the way he is faced with an endless array of challenges. London achieves this by portraying Buck’s change in character in a manner that explores and incorporates diverse motifs.

Ed Boone’s relationship strains as his gruesome secrets are unveiled to his son, Christopher. Ed tries his hardest protecting his son from the harsh realities of life, but ends up hurting him more than the truth would’ve. The novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, shares the adversity Christopher faces through his own eyes. If readers were able to see the novel through Ed’s viewpoint it would give a new outlook on their relation. Readers would see how Ed’s life experiences impacted his interactions with Christopher, they’d understand his view on Christopher, and the audience would be given new outlooks on interplays between the two family members. Though Ed and his son’s relationship is aloof, Ed works arduous to make them
4-Theme: An important theme discussed in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is the struggle to be independent. Christopher’s main goal in the book is to become independent despite his condition. He of course, can’t be as independent as he wishes, because he has difficulty dealing with new environments and going places alone. He still wishes for independence though, and tries to get that through disobeying and lying to his father. His desire to be independent is also shown in his reoccurring thought about being the only person alive.

Everyone goes through a time where they wish they were a different person. Many people believe that they can never change who they are. However, transformations occur every day. Emily Bronte proves this true in her novel Wuthering Heights. Throughout the entire plot, numerous characters changed, either in their appearance, their social status, or their personality.
