Since its origin, Christianity has had an unquestionable overwhelming impact on the world from ancient to modern times. Although the impact that Christianity has had on the world is highly debatable, seeing as it has had both a negative and positive effect on the world. Some groups and individuals have used their Christian values and beliefs for their own secular gains both leading to negative and positive effects on the world. Over the last 2000 years, from the crusades in the 11th to 13th centuries to the abolishment of slavery, from William Wilberforce to the negative impacts of the KKK in the 19th century, Christianity has been having a significant impact on the history of the world with both positive and negative impacts.
The religion of Christianity as a whole is neither positive or negative, but influential on impacting peoples and groups opinions and decisions. Which subsequently are both negative and positive. These groups or individuals can give the religion a negative reputation from the way

that they, a minority of the religion, has acted. A leading example of a minority group influencing the public’s opinion on Christianity would be the KKK. The KKK was a Christian minority group with extremest “Christian” members, who swore to uphold Christian principles, however practically every Christian group has condemned their practises and categorised them as Christian terrorists. Another group that is almost identical to the KKK’s movement today is ISIS. ISIS is similar to the KKK for the reason that both of these religious group’s are of a minority of a considerably large religion. These minority group’s have interpreted their religion’s teachings to justify violence, while the religion’s message is hidden behind the minority group’s secular beliefs. Although Christianity is a religion of peace, love and compassion, individuals have attempted to act out a certain way because of the way they interpret its teachings. And the way they voice their opinions with violence rather than with compassion and understanding. And despite the fact that these individuals and groups are in the minority, they are often depicted to be representing Christianity and so it seems like Christianity is in favour of these groups and their ideals. This emits the impression that Christianity is a religion that impacts the world negatively. Apart from the “Christian” extremist group, the KKK, another influential impact that can be connected to the rise of the idea East vs. the West is the crusades in middle ages. Where Christianity had a big role in influencing the religions of the middle east. The Crusades were a series of invades in the middle east to “liberate” the holy land and Jerusalem from Muslim rulers. Following the arrival of the crusades, the Islamic world only deemed the Crusades as a inconvenience rather than a true threat to their culture, and unsurprisingly, following this, Muslims remember the 200 years of un-provoked attacks on the middle east out of religious extremism and eagerness for blood.
To most Christians, they feel unsettled by these events because of the religious extremism defining the general impression that Muslims have on Christianity as a whole.
Leading on with the idea that a religion can have a monumental impact on society and can be involved in the treatment between two different classes of people. The slave trade would be a prime example of this in the 18th century, where William Wilberforce, who was an English member of parliament and also was a social revolutionist who worked endlessly for the abolishment of the slave trade.
Wilberforce's Christian faith influenced him in becoming the voice in parliament for the abolishment of
slavery. Before he was a part of the anti-slavery movement Wilberforce wondered; “Can one serve God and one’s nation in parliament?”. He became to question how he could achieve both of these goals in unison. From talking to John Newton, the songwriter of “Amazing Grace” he learnt of the unjustness of slaves. William Wilberforce met with some reformists who needed someone who could bring an Inquiry into the Slave trade. These reformists felt that he was the man for the job and Wilberforce knew that God was calling him to this, to use his position of power to help those who needed God’s help. “True Christians consider themselves not as satisfying some rigorous creditor, but as discharging a debt of gratitude” This was quoted by William Wilberforce and it depicts his devotion and loyalty to the movement. Eventually after 20 years straight of campaigning, even whilst William Wilberforce was fighting another fight against a life threatening illness, his abolition bill got passed and the capturing, transporting and selling of enslaved Africans was illegal. Without William Wilberforce's strength from God to persevere throughout his sickness, slavery would of still been legal. This incredible achievement that William Wilberforce managed shows how much of an impact that Christianity can have on individuals to achieve the hardest of tasks such as the abolishment of the slave trade. The Emancipation of the slaves has had a monumental impact that had been an issue for hundreds of years. In Conclusion, Christianity has been recognised by both Christian and non-Christians as an influential religion that has shaped the world over the last 2000 years, though it is still debated today if the impact of Christianity was a positive effect or a negative effect. We can see throughout the Christianity’s history the impacts of Christianity from events such as the crusades to the terrorism of the KKK. And although these events can be classified to be Christian motives they quite possibly could be done by secular groups or individuals.
In the essay "Worldviews in Conflict," Charles Colson and Nancy Pearcey compare and contrast the ideas of Christianity and the views of today's society. Throughout the essay they provide information about how the changes in society affect views regarding Christianity. Charles Colson and Nancy Pearcy's essay was written to contribute information so others could understand their views about the shifting cultural context and how it affects society's beliefs.
The most important historical fact of Christianity is the life of Jesus, the prophet that the faith of Christians is centered around. The historical Jesus grew up in Nazareth where John the Baptist baptized him, thus beginning his career as a teacher and healer of God. Little is known about where Jesus came from or what he looks like, only his personality through actions and words. Like most prophets, Jesus looked to the spiritual world to find answers to remove the suffering; John was the prophet to open Jesus’ eyes to heaven, leading him into a state solitude until he became empowered by the Spirit. The actions that speak for his personality are of power to heal sickness, cast away evil, and perform miracles, all that the prophets gave credit to Jesus, but this what not the focus of his ministry. What drew people into Jesus was his hope to heal humanity, not just people; he urged peace and loving of the enemies, which created ties with the Pharisees. However, the Pharisees did not see God as compassion, so they created categories of clean and unclean people. Christianity is originally created for the undesirables, so Jesus felt that the boundaries were not exemplifying His compassion, thus he set out to change the system. This did not sit well with the Pharisees, so Jesus began to compiled enemies of Rome, which would lead to his crucifixion. It was the death of Jesus that began the Christianity faith, but his words and deeds that empowered the people. Jesus had no new teachings that were different from those before him, but he had a weight of meaning to his words. Christ’s teachings were mostly in the forms of stories where lessons of the heart lay behind the message. Not only did he speak with authority, but he spoke out ag...
Constantine’s conversion of the Roman Empire had a lasting effect on Christianity. Eusebius represents the conversion as a noble and respectable event for Christianity; however, early Christians know that the true beliefs of Christianity were heavily undermined. Because Christianity lost its true foundation, Christians were forced to find new ways to practice their beliefs and express their devotion. This watered-down version of Christianity opened the door to various divisions in the Church that still exist to this day. Although Constantine’s conquest of the Roman Empire appeared to be a positive event for Christianity, the original biblical canon of Christianity manifested into a liberal religion that lacked the true devotion of a real disciple.
The broadest definition of Christianity is also perhaps the simplest. Across the history and branches of the religion, “it is faith in Christ, not the scrupulous and religious keeping of the law...which is the basis of salvation” (McGrath 15). The religion that is now a major global force has grown out of a small group tucked away in one corner of the world, breaking and changing over time, yet united by a faith in this revolutionary man who claimed to be the son of God, Jesus Christ.
Recent happenings in history; For instance, the apartheid that was about the racial oppression that a contest of supremacy of races is traced to the religion of Christianity. Christian teachings of the gospel are totally opposed to domination or being subdued of one race by another. “The biblical understanding of racial differences has been taken out of context resulting to racism an issue Christianity is seeking to address to combat racism true to the Scripture”. Christianity itself places a duty on its faithful to object and protest against racism.
The rise of Christianity in western civilization is arguably among the most important memories in history. There is no denying what the spread of Christianity has done for the world, for better or worse. Its impact on western civilizations is unrivaled and unprecedented. Christianity slowly became something for many individuals to turn to; in times of hurt it provided comfort, in times of pleasure it gave thanks. The will and belief for salvation has driven individuals to be better, and to have a reference while in need.
After Jesus’ death the Church of the early years saw many increase in followers and it was then that the name “Christians” started becoming more and more common. Though, due in large to the fact that Christianity was not as wide spread, these next few years following held with them many persecutions from those whom did not
The single most important aspect of European empires, beginning just prior to the fall of Rome, is the spread of Christianity to all areas of the continent in as little as a few hundred years. Many theologians state that Christianities spread is the indirect influence of God and the adoration of people to one true faith. Though it is true that Christianity has brought about people that even atheists could call saints, it is unquestionable that Christianity was so monumental because it united larger groups of people and its spread is contributed to adherence to local customs and its lack of new ideas in comparison to other religions of the day.
Christianity is the world’s most prominent religion, with more than six billion people practicing worldwide. Although Christianity has come to dominate the world of religion, it began as a small and mysterious cult in Ancient Rome. Small, and poorly understood, Christianity soon became an enemy of Rome, marked with persecution, martyrdom, and murder. By the end of the third century CE, tens of thousands of Christians had been arrested and killed for their beliefs.
What is Christianity all about? What are the basic beliefs of Christianity and how did it begin? According to (AllAboutReligion, 2010),” Christianity began about 2000 years ago in Judea, [presently known today as Israel] with Jesus Christ and His faithful group of disciples”. This paper will address the viewpoint of the Christian faith and its outcome. The central message of Christianity is based upon the teachings of Jesus and his promises. Christianity teaches that there is merely one God in all existence and that God created the universe. It also teaches that Jesus is the only way to be set free from the coming judgment of God and that Jesus desires his values and his standards to abound. Moreover, Christianity is the only religion that offers a savior. Religion has been in every culture since the beginning of human society and there are many religions competing for the heart of humanity throughout the world at large. The following characterizations are based on the Christian faith: redemption, covenant and grace. Although Christianity is a matter of choice for the human race, what type of influence did it have on the China, Africa, and Rome inhabitants?
What is Christianity and why has it been able to develop into a continuously growing and evolving religion?
Christianity most specifically, the Holy Roman Catholic Church has been involved in the world throughout time. Since Christianity, when if first became a major religion in society the involvement of the Roman Catholic Church has affected many areas of history. The Roman Catholic Church has affected the world historically, as demonstrated by it's impact upon the historical figures like Hypatia, Joan of Arc, and Jan Hus, historical events such as the Salem Witch Trials, and many other eras and events. The Roman Catholic Church slowed down scientific advancement during the Middle Ages when they had the greatest control over society, due to their personal beliefs. Finally, the Roman Catholic Church for a time changed the world ethically for women and homosexuals, although this is not inclusive. Without the extreme control the Roman Catholic Church had, the world would be a completely different place to live in. To prove this, topics such as the effect the Roman Catholic Church has had throughout history, how science has been affected by the Roman Catholic Church, and how the Roman Catholic Church has affected society ethically to a small and temporary degree.
The religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are alike in many ways but they also share many differences. Judaism and Christianity use the bible in their holy scriptures, while Islam does not. Jesus Christ is a part of all three religions as Christianity and Islam developed from Judaism. Many believe that the three religions worship, pray to, and focus on the same god. They believe this as many of the prophets are they share much in common as they share many beliefs. However, the followers of the three religions pray differently and in different places. the religions believe that their god created the world and everything in the world. The three Abrahamic religions have different histories, yet they share many similarities and difference.
A philosophy of Christian education encompasses many aspects that overlap areas of a child 's life that could not be nurtured and molded in a public school setting. Therefore, the Christian philosophy of education must include so much more. The Bible must be used as the basis for the education of children. A child should be taught in a way that will best benefit the individual that God created. He should be trained in his own way, the way he learns best. In order to do that, teachers must be able to assess their students in a manner that will reveal the learning styles that best fit each child. By doing this, the best possible education can be given to each student. Proverbs 22:6 states, "Train up a child in the way he should go..." The ways
My definition of religion has mostly stayed the same, but my perception of it has changed. At the beginning of the class, I assumed religion was something you believed based on your moral principles. I now believe that those moral principles are based on the religion that you believe in. Your religion changes your perception of the world and how to go about in it. Your religion tells you what is right and wrong in the world and answers all of the big questions one asks. Religion according to our book is, “A pattern of beliefs and practices that expresses and enacts what a community regards as sacred and/or ultimate about life” (Van Voorst 6). That definition was one thing that really got me thinking about my own personal idea of what religion
