Initial Set-up Cost:
Cost to purchase Chinchilla
Depending on whether you choose to purchase the chinchilla from a breeder or a pet store, the price can vary. The price can range anywhere from $75 - $250. I bought Twister for $150.
Housing/ Living Arrangement
Chinchillas need large cages that have multiple floors so they can jump, run, and stretch their legs, as they are very active animals. The cage can be wire, but the wire should have very small spacing between it, as their feet can get easily caught and their delicate legs can break. You can get a cage with a pull out bottom to make cleaning easier, but should be sure to have some parts of the cage with a solid bottom so the animal’s feet don’t get irritated. A decent cage will cost at least $100, and can range up to $300. I purchased my cage for $200. You can buy a used cage off of craigslist for a slightly cheaper price, but must make sure the cage is thoroughly cleaned and free of any diseases that may transfer to your animal. Bedding is optional, but it helps control odor and offers a soft place for the chinchilla to rest. It is better to buy in bulk, and purchase a large package of bedding for $35 a month. To make the bedding stretch a little longer, and cut down on costs, you can rip up old newspaper and mix it in with the bedding, which can make the package last for about two months.
NO PLASTIC
NO AQUARIUMS
NO WIRE FLOORS BIGGER THAN ½” by ½”
Exercise requirements
Chinchillas require a lot of exercise, as it is paramount to their health and well being. They must be allowed to exercise out of the cage for a minimum of 1-2 hours every night. Without exercise a chinchilla will suffer from depression, feelings of fear, extreme anxiety and neurotic habits such as pacing ...

...marketed for chinchillas from pet stores, but generally they enjoy raisins which you can buy a pack for only $1.
Toys
Chinchillas love to play, so toys are a must. A hide house is usually necessary so they have somewhere to retreat when they feel uncomfortable, and can be purchased for $15. They also need to chew, as their teeth are constantly growing. Wooden chew toys keep the chinchilla entertained and their teeth healthy, and generally cost $5. These have to be replaced about every two months as they go through them pretty quickly.
Overall cost
Within the first month, it would cost $521 to get started up with everything you would need.
For the first year, you would spend $505 in upkeep.
Bedding- $210
Dust bath- $40
Food- $204
Miscellaneous- $51
In total for the first year of owning a chinchilla, you would pay $1026, not including any emergency vet trips.
The essay “Being a Chink” was written by Christine Leong for her freshman composition class at NYC and was later published in Mercer Street. Leong begins with the affect that language has on people, how it can define us, make us feel, and differentiate us. She recalls the first time she saw the word chink, one summer while working in her family’s Chinese restaurant. While dusting some shelves she came across a white bank envelope with the work chink written on it in her father’s handwriting. Consequently she was upset by this finding; since she was not sure if her father was called this name by a customer and he wrote it down to find the meaning of this word. Since her family was one of two Asian families living in the area, she was not surprised
The initial cost of starting a habitat and establishing a food source colony is the most expensive part of breeding Bearded Dragons. The cage itself should be a terrarium large enough for two full-grown Bearded Dragons. A perfect size would be a large glass terrarium 18” by 36” by 18”. That terrarium costs around $235 dollars new. Whatever you want to decorate the tank with such as the floor, wal...
Burmese pythons (Python molurus) are popular pets in the United States because of their attractive color pattern, reputed docility, and the allure, for some, of owning a giant snake. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, approximately 99,000 Burmese pythons were imported to the United States between 1996 and 2006, compared to only 17,000 between 1970 and 1995. The species is classified by the World Conservation Union as “near threatened” in its native range in Southeast Asia due to exportation for the pet trade and hunting for skins. Thousands of pythons are also captive bred each year in the U.S. for sale as pets. An inexperienced snake keeper who takes home a 20-inch hatchling is, within a year, responsible for a brawny eight-foot predator.
3.They get tired easily. Letting them run around outside of their cage for 30 minutes to an hour is more than enough time for them.
One of the methods to acquire food for the Cahuilla was through Gathering and Harvesting seasonal foods. One of the most notable food the Cahuilla’s enjoyed was the Pinion Nuts. Chickens have to endure suffering that no living thing should have to go through. The egg laying chickens have to be forced into tiny cages without enough room to stretch their wings. Up to 8 hens are crammed in to a cage that is the size of a folded newspaper, about 11"-14". Stress from the confinement leads to severe feather loss so the chicken will be almost completely bald in the cold cages. When the chickens are of egg-laying age, there beaks are cut off without any pain killers to ease the pain, they do this so the chickens don’t break their own eggs and eat them because the chickens are hungry.
In many cases Savannah cats are known for being cute, furry and cuddlable but we need to respect them in their natural behavior tendencies to provide them a suitable stimulating environment. By doing so we have to encourage environmental enrichment for the physical and mental health for these Savannah’s. Having a proper environment increases these species brain activity, well-being, senses, stimuli, and relieves them from boredom. These cats tends to get physical, physiologic, and behavioral disorders for stress and lack of stimulation. It can cause these species to do urine marking, house soiling, owner directed aggression, behavioral over grooming, displacement activities and reduce comfort behavior. For Savannah cats are a cross between
Some of the “proud” owners of Burmese pythons are-- well, there’s just no polite way to put this-- just downright stupid. Can you imagine buying a wild animal without researching anything about it? And, when their pythons got too big, the owners got rid of them in the most irresponsible fashion, they just let them go in the Everglades or some other wild
Although confinement of livestock and poultry is a well-established practice, modern housing does not allow animals to exhibit most normal behaviors3. Research has shown that animals held in restricted cage areas suffer from unnecessary stress and are unable to maintain normal bone structure, most commonly in the limbs and/or wings. The larger cages suggested by Proposition Two might provide a great deal of opportunities to supplement the wellbeing of animals and the quality of the products that they produce.

The cost of adoption mainly depends on what kind of child one wants to adopt. Where you are adopting from has a major impact on cost also. The price for a healthy white baby is generally in the $15, 000 price range, but can easily reach up to $25,000(Ademec 68). A black or biracial baby is substantially less in cost. Also a baby with health problems will generally be lower in cost(Ademec 68). When you first apply to an adoption agency, the first fees you will pay are the application fees. These fees range up to several hundred dollars or more. The next fees you will pay are the home study fees. The median price range runs around $1,500 to $2,000 dollar range. The most expensive fee for adoption is the placement fee, which will generally be priced from $10,000 and up(Ademec 69). But if the child is from another country, you will have to visit it. ...
The life of a circus animal is hard and demanding. It is not an acceptable way of life for an animal. Circuses would quickly lose their appeal if the public were more aware of their mistreatments of these animals. Many circuses do not have much money and as a result the animals suffer from inadequate care. These animals spend most of their time in small cages used for transportation. The Animal Welfare Act provides cage requirements, but many circuses fail to follow this law. Even the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey circus was cited for 65 violations over a two-year period according to Florence Lambert. When traveling, animals spend hours, even days between sites in confinement..

Zoo animals are usually kept in very cramped enclosures and do not behave like their wild counterparts. Polar bears, for example, are given about 10 metres of walking space whereas in their Arctic home they roam for many hundreds of kilometres. Similarly, primates, big cats and birds are often confined in cages where they lack exercise and stimulation. Many animals develop unnatural habits such as pacing back and forth or swaying from side to side.
