CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE 1. Did it really help the problem, or did it make it worse? China's one - child policy is detrimental to its population. The policy was supposed to help the rapidly growing population rate. They feared that if the population rate got too high, there wouldn't be enough to provide for them. It had caused negative effects to take. People who relied on their children struggled, the mental health of the kids deteriorated and the policy led to a large increase in abortions. The one-child policy caused an increase in abortions. Families were stuck with only having one child, because of this the abortion rates have risen by the millions. If a family were to have a second child they would be faced with the consequences, multiple women have been victims of "being punished with forced sterilization" to get rid of the possibility of having a child. "Was it a good Idea?" ).If the family were to have the second child they would be faced with "paying large fines" as punishment. (Was it a good idea? ). Most did not want to have these options, so they resorted to having abortions. It has been stated by Chinese offices that this " policy has helped avert 400 million births " which is a signifigent increase than before (document B). Document B. -. In traditional agriculture it is common for parents to have large families. The kids are extra support to the resources and income. without this extra help, it would be hard for families to make a living. Not only does this affect the family but also that markets who need the food they grow, this has lead to china having to "face food shortages" (was it a good idea?). along with a devastating famine killing an estimated 30 million people" ( Was it a good Idea? ).
