CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE 1. China's one-child policy was not a good idea. China introduced something called the one child policy in the year 1979, which basically states, you can only have one kid in a family (with minimal exceptions). Chinas government should not have implemented this due to the unnecessaryness of it all. China had been dealing with some population issues in prior years, and implemented certain things into their government system to control population. This system worked well to bring down the population, from 5.8 children per woman to 2.7 in just 9 years (stated in document B). So it doesn't make much sense why they would implement a new rule to control population. Another reason China shouldnt have implemented this is the emotional part of this. Something I learned in previous units, is that some countries have to have children for the reasons of working and making the family money, China is not one of these countries. The family genuinely wants children. It could also have an effect on the children. In document F of the DBQ, a child who was born and raised during the time period when this law was in effect. An excerpt from this CNN interview with "Xiao Xuan" states "I hate to say it but the one-child policy should partly be blamed for some social issues if youth today. Youth have lots to worry about with school, sports, and having a genuine childhood. Lots of this gets taken away from them due to the fact they basically have to take care of a family at a very young age. They have to take care of the grandpa and grandma on the moms side, grandma and grandpa on the dads side, the mom, dad, and themselves (The 4-2-1 family structure stated in Document E).
