Children Being Delinquents

Some children choose to become delinquents by partaking in the risk factors they are aware of, but as long as the developmental assets are used to create protective factors for them it should be at a minimum. Risk factors may be considered as typical teenage behaviors at times, but they are not in all cases. Underage drinking, drug use, truancy, vandalism, theft, violence, drug dealing, carrying weapons, and running away from school are all actions that children commit and put themselves at risk for seriously harmed, killed, or arrested and put in to the criminal justice system. Regrettably, some of those children committing the delinquent behaviors either does not care because they are oblivious to the truth of what can possibly happen to them, or they feel like because they are young, they will not be disciplined like adults are. …show more content…

When some children feel as though they cannot and will not be affected by certain risk factors, they think they are immune. Some psychologists have called that belief the illusion of invulnerability. These specific children know what is right and what is wrong, but they choose to engage in delinquency anyways. The delinquents feel like any specific action they partake in will not and cannot be accounted for and they will not be disciplined for their delinquent actions due to the illusion of invulnerability. In order to prevent children from depending on the risk factors around them, a shield is hypothetically put up and it is called protective factors.
