1) Why is obesity an epidemic among American children? Obesity effects 30% percent of children making it the most chronic diseases of childhood. (according to obesityaction.org) I believe childhood obesity is an epidemic, because children are encouraged now more than ever to be more sedentary. For example, we encourage children to sit inside and play video games instead of going outside, even though technology is increasing and changing, we must make sure to keep our children active and moving. Another problem that children face today is eating out, parents find it much simpler to run through a drive through rather than cooking a healthy meal at home. It is now estimated that approximately 40 to 50 percent of every dollar that is spent on food is spent on food outside the home. (according to obesityaction.org). I believe that if we had a better understanding of the scientific method, we might be able to better understand the process of critical thinking, it would also open us to make better decisions for our life. I feel that if society had a better understanding of the struggles and the mindset of the obese person, think people’s idea towards them would change. 3) If you were a member of the school board, how would you have voted? And why? I would have voted for Mark’s presentation, because I feel that his idea has the best of both worlds. He mentioned that science encouraged him to succeed and strive to do better in life. However, he did mention how the lack of physical education partly hindered him as a youth to live healthy. I also found it interesting that he was able to be successful in school, and was able to be successful in his career without the use of the latest scientific equipment in high school. 4) Why did the authors choose the title, “Inactive Brains” for this case
