WHAT IS THE CONDITION/ILLNESS?
Chicken Pox is a disease that causes itchy blisters on the skin. If they are scratched they can become infected. Chicken Pox is a highly contagious disease that spreads through coughing and sneezing and the touching of things after the blisters have been touched (Ministry Of Health, 2015).
HOW DOES THIS CONDITION/ILLNESS AFFECT THE BODY?
Chicken pox affects the body because once you have the virus, the virus stays in the body for the rest of your life. Chicken pox can be reactivated any time at any age (Kids Health, 1995 - 2015). If children happen to get chicken pox in the mouth this has effects on the body because they are unable to eat and drink and this can cause dehydration and …show more content…

Other ways to recognise if it’s the chickenpox is that it causes a red, itchy skin rash like blisters that can appear anywhere on the body, it usually starts on the abdomen, back or face and then spreads everywhere else. They began like red bumps (pimples) and form blisters. The blisters fill with liquid and then burst leaving a crusty scab that is really itchy, if children itch these they can leave permanent scars (Kids Health, 1995 - 2015). We need to make sure the child drinks lots of water and keeps their fluids up, ensure the child isn’t scratching the spots as this can cause infection, put lotion on the child’s body to try and cool the itching, you can give the child lukewarm baths using baking soda to help stop the itching, remember to pat the child dry don’t rub. Children that have chickenpox needs to stay home from school because they are contagious and don’t want to spread them to other children. If the child/ children you’re caring for has a high fever, temperature, feels ill or become drowsy you will need to take them to the doctor to get checked out to make sure they are coping well. You need to know when the child is not contagious anymore so you know when they can return to school. When all the spots have formed scabs/ dried over the child is no longer contagious and can return to school and public
