Condensation of Polymers Condensation polymers are kinds of polymers made through a condensation reaction where the molecules link together eliminating small molecules as by-products such as water or methanol, contrasting to addition polymers which comprise of the reaction of unsaturated monomers. Monomers The monomers that take part in condensation polymerization are not similar to the ones that are involved in addition polymerisation. Theses monomers for condensation polymerization have two attributes: • Instead of double bonds, these monomers have functional groups like alcohol, amine or carboxylic …show more content…
He wanted to discover a material that would have a high melting point characteristic and also be impervious to oxidation which eventually directed him to form Poly (ether-ether-ketone) PEEK is a polymer which can withstand very high temperatures; boiling water pans are made out of this and also cone of missiles. • Polyhydroxyamine This is a polymer which is, if, treated with strong heat, turns into a fire-resistant polymer. On burning no smoke is formed, which makes it convenient as a plastic for aeroplane interiors. When PHA is intensely heated, it loses water and re-arranges to form PBO. PHA is used as a plastic as it is easier to mould so it is used instead of PBO. The Mechanism of Condensation Polymerization Monomers that are combined by condensation polymerization have two functional groups. A carboxylic acid and an amine can form an amide linkage, and a carboxylic acid and an alcohol can construct an ester linkage. So as each monomer has two reactive sites, they can form long chain polymers by making multiple amide or ester links and releasing a small molecule. Examples of the mentioned mechanism are illustrated below. Example
spaced –CONH– amide groups. Nylon 6-6, or poly(hexamethylneadipamide), is composed of. two structural monomers (hexamethylendiamine (H2N(CH2)6NH2) and adipic acid. (HOOC(CH2)4COOH), whereas Nylon 6, or poly(6-caprolactam), is composed of a single structural unit (either 6-aminocaproic acid (H2N(CH2)4COOH) or caprolactam). Ultimately, the answer is yes.
I hope I have answered the question “What was his personal life like?” good in here and would like to summarize by saying that he was able to overcome all odds to become a famous inventor that even had a movie made by him. I would also like to say that He made many, many products that we still use all from simple plants like peanuts in summary to the answer of the question “What did he actually do?”. He also had many hobbies that ended up in helping many people (“What did he like to do when he wasn’t working?”). I have found that this man that I knew nothing about before the report is one of the few real life people I know of that overcame so many things in his life that almost no one even knows
invention that he wanted nothing more than to share it with his people. He felt that it
Later in his career, he made a machine that would curl hair. This device was later called a curling iron. He later patented it, making his first patented invention of two hundred seventy-one. Another invention he created was the indoor sprinkling system. This would not only put out fires, but also warn the fire department. Even with
Kevlar fiber is therefore a “Polyaromatic amide”, as it has a high breaking strength. Polymer chains are long, individual chains, although they behave as if they are attached to each other. The individual chains are actually held together by ‘Electrostatic Forces’ between molecules, also known as ‘Hydrogen Bonds’. Scientists discovered this, by using a special type of X-ray microscopy called ‘XANES’. This was able to reveal the orientation of molecules in materials.
Over the course of the past 60 years, an increasing amount of the current population is using plastic and reusable products to try and reduce the amount of waste that is being thrown away. Bisphenol A (BPA) is used to manufacture polycarbonate #7 plastic which have help strengthen plastic bottles, food containers and epoxy resins (University of Minnesota, 2008). BPA is used in a range of products from every day plastic beverage containers and plastic dinnerware, to compact disks, impact-resistant safety equipment, automobile parts, and toys (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013). The CDC (2013) also states that BPA epoxy resins are used in the protective linings of food cans, in dental sealants, and in other products (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013).

They are covalent in nature and this property enhance their stability than the physically cross linked counterparts. The monomers are copolymerizing for the preparation of chemically cross linked microgels in the presence of multifunctional cross linking
The most commonly produced PVC structure by addition polymerisation is the atactic PVC. As seen in Figure #, the chlorine atoms are branched randomly and asymmetrically along the carbon backbone. Unlike the other two structures, the random orientation prevents the polymers from packing closely together and is described to be ‘amorphous’.
chains instead of hydrogen atoms. Cross-linking is another way in which the polymer can be made stronger. This involves ultraviolet radiation that bombards the polymer with electrons and formulates bonds between the molecular chains of the polymers. This is like linear polyethylene but different in that it is more impact resistant, and it has a much higher density. This allows it to be stored or be used with different chemicals that would normally cause the polymer to desolve.3 This can start to become a problem because as the polymer continues to become chemically enhanced. So the ways of dissolving and recycling the polymer become more difficult.
Define monomer and polymer. A monomer is one a building block for different molecules. A polymer,
His great invention was loved by people all over the planet. His theorem was well received internationally. He became a science hero in China and he inspired many students to study science. His work was shown on Goldbach's conjecture and Chen and his theorem was shown in many places. They were shown in books, TV shows, movies, and he even had a asteroid named after him.
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical compound used to create polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resins. Polycarbonate plastics are found in a wide range of products, but food and drink containers are the most concerning. Most people fear that BPA will have negative effect...
His experiments were vast and provided a lot of insight unto the idea of philosophers stone. While he was attempting the impossible, his belief in the idea shows people of modern times how believable most of these experiments were. A lot of people truly believe that these alchemists were really going to create the philosophers stone and be able to live
