The process of acquiring and sharing knowledge is a beautiful experience that most individuals or group members enjoy being a part of. People love to share the information they have learned, whether it be of small or of great importance, it is fulfilling to be able to share or teach others. No matter what your education level, there is always a gift to share with others around you. Information tends to be biased and focused more on one sub culture of individuals. People with chemical dependency challenges want to be accepted and seen as contributors to society. Unfortunately, life is not fair. Through group meetings the human rights of individuals and the other group members are advanced as well as opportunities for the development of useful intervention goals. Assessments were used to help guide the group meetings in a beneficial manner that produced an effective outcome for all participants. Documentation will be provided in the form of a PowerPoint that was not shared with the chemical support group for teens members. The PowerPoint will provide an overview of the chemical support group for teens. Furthermore, due to federal laws and hospital regulations no other information will be shared. I selected this project because I believe self-advocating is a very important process when it comes to ensuring that patients’ needs are met. Unfortunately, there are instances when some social workers are not sensitive to the needs of patients with a long history chemical dependency challenges. Sad, because at times, some young people not only have to deal with chemical dependency struggles, but the demands of life as well. As society forever increases in its intermixing of individuals from different social and ethnic groups, social workers must further increase their understanding of inter-group relationships and methods in which to help people who struggle with chemical dependency. Overall, completing this project was a positive experience. I had no major challenges. Surprisingly, I received an overwhelming amount of support from staff members in the partial hospitalization department with contacting and locating former chemical dependency patients.
