Have you ever cheated on a test in school that you didn’t actually learn the material for? Did you think you had gotten away scot-free just because you hadn't been caught? Think again. You may have passed the test, but you didn't learn anything, The whole point of school. Academic dishonesty needs to be properly combatted for the good of students education. This is a problem because far too many students cheat in school and in the end, it harms them.

According to Challenge Success 2012, “between 80 and 95% of high-school students admit to engaging in some form of cheating.” This number is far too high. Nowadays, students have a multitude of ways to cheat simply from technology and more clever ideas over time. This makes cheating easier and people tend to take the easy road if possible. The easy road is not always the best road though. Cheating takes education from all students participating because they tend not to learn the material if it is simply copied and not comprehended. Students cheat because it is more convenient at the time for them. If they ever have to know the information in the future, they will have never learned it. Pursuant to Perspective on Education, Cheating will not diminish unless test scores are not as focused on. The first step is simple signed honor codes in all schools. This can curb cheating by up to 90% as stated in High School Honor Code Curbs Cheating. I also think up and coming teacher’s curriculum should include anti-cheating courses to prevent this as much as possible. They could learn new forms of cheating already detected and possible ones. This could both help catch cheating, deterring that student from cheating again, and it could make an example of all the students being caught, further deterring other students to stay honest. Teachers should also make the amount of work they assign more realistic. Student cheating is usually caused by desperation and stress, so taking some of that off will make students less likely to cheat. It should cover the curriculum, but ease some of the raw time required to complete assignments. Like teachers tell students about essays. “It should be long enough to cover the subject, but not too long to be rambling.” Finally, parents should take a more tender, passive approach to grades so students don’t feel stress to do perfectly. This ties in with students being pressured leading to cheating, a quick and easy fix for mom always on you about grades. This means that if parents were more encouraging and helpful instead of aggressive and pushy, cheating will be even less
