One of his important works with Mary was ‘Tales from Shakespeare’ which was published in 1807. It was of plays of Shakespeare for children where he would work on the tragedies while Mary would work on the comedies. He retold the works of Shakespeare while adding his own critical views regarding the plays. The book was designed to make stories of Shakespeare plays familiar to the young. The influence of the work was to help children understand the meaning of the different plays that were written by Shakespeare in the form of making them be able to understand. The book contained some of Shakespeare's most well loved works. Their genre was about drama and
The events that started autumn 1766 and continued for several years tested Mary's resolve more than any other time. Her sister, Rebecca, had contracted smallpox in November 1766. She passed away soon after. John Noyes, Mary's first husband, had lived with epilepsy longer than the doctors originally expected, but soon he succumbed to death as well. Having her family a distance away, Mary clutched on to John's mother as to a rock. In November 1768, the older Madam Noyes went to bed in good health but was found dead the next morning. For the first time, Mary found herself alone to take on the responsibilities of the household and family head. In May of 1770, Mary's only daughter, then 4 years old, fell ill. She died ten days later. Mary wrote, "I felt in some measure resigned, knowing that God could give a good reason why he had thus afflicted me." Despite this statement, Mary's spirit was broken and she fell into a depression, feeling that her faith had died with the child.
An influential American printmaker and painter as she was known for impressionist style in the 1880s, which reflected her ideas of the modern women and created artwork that displayed the maternal embrace between women and children; Mary Cassatt was truly the renowned artist in the 19th century. Cassatt exhibited her work regularly in Pennsylvania where she was born and raised in 1844. However, she spent most of her life in France where she was discovered by her mentor Edgar Degas who was the very person that gave her the opportunity that soon made one of the only American female Impressionist in Paris. An exhibition of Japanese woodblock Cassatt attends in Paris inspired her as she took upon creating a piece called, “Maternal Caress” (1890-91), a print of mother captured in a tender moment where she caress her child in an experimental dry-point etching by the same artist who never bared a child her entire life. Cassatt began to specialize in the portrayal of children with mother and was considered to be one of the greatest interpreters in the late 1800s.
Charles grew up in a wealthy family and had everything pretty much going for him. He was always full of curiosity coming up, always wanted to know how different things worked, and would try different experiments. "Charles always tried various experiments. One of these, after he'd read the New Testament account of Jesus walking on water, was an attempt to walk on water. He didn't use faith or magic, but science, with the help of a mechanical device he made out of two planks held together with hinges." (Josepha Sherman, page 16) Aside from the wealth they had poor health, in London there was pollution everywhere and all kinds of toxicants in the air. This caused Charles siblings after him to die before they reached to age of one. "Even so, the air wouldn't have been to clean, thanks to carelessly tossed garbage, horses in the street, and poor sewer...The Babbage’s decided that the wisest thing to do was send Charles away from London, out into the cleaner countryside." (Josepha Sherman, page 14) At the age of
To begin with “William Shakespeare was the most remarkable storyteller that the world has ever known” (Why was Shakespeare Important). Shakespeare created most, which include thirty seven plays that are his finest legacy he left on this world. He has improved the stage with many genres and told every kind of story including comedies, tragedies, histories, and many strange plays that muddled with the human imagination. Shakespeare told these stories so well that they have become unforgettable, and in the world of storytelling he has become the greatest. Shakespeare’s stories go beyond time and culture. Shakespeare’s inspiration is seen in many different modern stories. “Modern storytellers continue to adapt Shakespeare’s tales to suit our new world” (Why was Shakespeare Important).
The last genre Shakespeare uses is History; an example of this is ‘Henry V’ where he bases this play on actual historic events. The play is set around the year 1420 and King Henry is faced with the difficult decision, whether to attack France or not. There are a lot of incidents in this play where Shakespeare exaggerates the qualities/attributes of King Henry; he changes the way we think of King Henry. The attributes of King Henry are exaggerated to such an extent we believe that he must have been ‘the perfect king’, cunning, merciful, charming and an excellent speaker.
He wrote many different works as in plays and poems. “In addition to his thirty-seven plays, Shakespeare wrote an innovative collection of sonnets and two long narrativ...
Next, Shakespeare had also impacted many other writers at his time and still to this day. He influenced the writers in many ways. Many others have used phrases from Shakespeare's work for their own titles or for own novels they write. The authors thought his work was so unique they wanted to use some of it for their work. There have been dozens of movies based on Shakespeare and his work. The first one was in 1899 and since then many authors have made a movie about him (Mabillard). Many writers are inspired by Shakespeare and his work. His stories surpass time and culture which is a reason to why authors continue to adapt his work. An author named John Keats wrote a poem he would keep Shakespeare's works next to him for influence (Acevedo).
He was influenced by Geoffrey Chaucer and Plutarch. Chaucer was known as the father of english literature and is considered to be the greatest poet of the middle ages. Chaucer’s work “Troilus and Criseyde” inspired shakespeare's play “Troilus and Cressida” and Chaucer poem “The Knights Tales” sparked Shakespeare to craft “The Noble Kinsmen”. Another influence was Plutarch, a greek biographer and essayist, known primarily for his Parallel Lives and Moralia. Shakespeare used North's translation of Parallel Lives as the primary source of “Antony and Cleopatra”, “Julius Caesar”, “Coriotanus”, and “Timon of Athens”. Not only did he have influences, he also influenced many writers today; such as Aldous Huxley, John Keats and Maya Angelou. Many authors have used phrases from shakespeare work as title for their own novels like Aldous Huxley did for “Brave New World”. The Romantic poet John Keats was so influenced by shakespeare that he kept a bust of bard beside him while writing, hoping shakespeare would inspire him to do great things with his writings. Many writers have admired and been influenced by shakespeare. In the 18th century, Alexander Pope, one of the greatest poets of the enlightenment. Pope wrote an edition of shakespeare on 1725, with significant commentary. He has also influenced major novelists such as Herman Melville, Charles Dickens, and William Fulcher. Charles used many of shakespeare's quotations throughout his works. Melville was even more influenced by shakespeare because he used devices such as formal stage directions and extended soliloquies in Moby-Dick. George Bernard ridiculed those who worshipped shakespeare, inventing the term bardolatry, to denote the study of Shakespeare. Scholars believed he secretly admired Shakespeare. “West Side Story” was influenced by Romeo And Juliet, when one group doesn't get along with another group and someone ends up falling in love from opposite sides. Romeo claims his love
Shakespeare has created stories that are so powerful, emotional, comedic, tragic and romantic that they are still continuously remembered and studied in the modern era. Though the essence of his talents does not lie in the simple themes behind his plays, but more so in
William Shakespeare has become landmark in English literature. One must be familiar with the early days of English literature in order to comprehend the foundation of much of more modern literature’s basis. Shakespeare’s modern influence is still seen clearly in many ways. The success of Shakespeare’s works helped to set the example for the development of modern dramas and plays. He is also acknowledged for being one of the first writers to use any modern prose in his writings.
In 1596, when he was working on viewing plays and sonnets, a copy of a 3020-line narrative poem by Arthur Brooke named “ The Tragical History of Romeus and Juliet”, publishing in 1592, attracted him. William Shakespeare felt
Shakespeare’s plays are a product of the Elizabethan theatrical context in which they were first performed. A lot of pressure was put on Shakespeare as he wrote his plays because he was not allowed to upset the royal family. His style would have been different than others in those times and a lot more thought has gone into his writing than people listening would think. Usually, the audience take for granted the cleverness and thought of Shakespeare’s writing, however, now we have studied and gone into great detail about Shakespeare’s writing, we can appreciate it more than they did:
The famous writer, Shakespeare, was said to have been born in Stratford as the first son to John and Mary Shakespeare on either the 21st, 22nd, or 23rd of April 1564. Most assume that Shakespeare’s birth occurred on the 23rd where then; he was baptized three days later on April 26, 1564. When he was five years of age, Shakespeare attended King’s New School at Stratford. Around 1574 or 1574 Shakespeare graduated from the Lower school to the Upper. There is no record telling how long Shakespeare had spent at King’s New School. There is a chance that Shakespeare was also apprenticed at his father’s shop. In 1582 Shakespeare became associated with the eldest daughter of the Hathaway family. In November of that year, Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway were licensed to marry but the court of Worcester. The couple had approximately three children together: Susanna, Hamnet, and Judith. Susanna was born in 1583 and the twins were born two years after. The time after this, from 1585 -1592, became known as the lost years as there are little known about Shakespeare in that period of time. It is assumed that around 1590 Shakespeare left Stratford to London and began his play writing career. Shakespeare’s first play had been Henry VI, Part One. Then in 1593, the theatres became closed due to the bubonic plague and reopen the next year. During that ...
