Developing professional behavior as a student in a doctor of physical therapist degree program, is helping to lay the foundation of becoming a professional in physical therapy after graduating. Working with physical therapists, as a rehabilitation aide, I have first-hand experience of professionalism in the context of being a physical therapist. Knowing when it is okay to have fun and when a more serious manor is necessary is one of the characteristics of professionalism to me. When the therapists are working with patients they have to find a balance of having fun and building rapport with patients but staying professional in the process. Being a student, finding that balance is also very important. Being able to have fun with the professors and your classmates is important since you are going to be spending the majority of your time with them throughout the doctorate degree program. Similar to being a physical therapist, there are going to be times throughout the three years of the doctorate program that a more professional and serious manor is necessary. Professionalism is having respect for your classmates and professors. During undergraduate classes, I think some students take the curriculum a little less serious, …show more content…
Even though we may all have different definitions, what is the most important is that each of those students hold themselves accountable for being the most professional student possible. Making sure the students are making their classes their top priority and are trying to learn the content to the best of their ability in order to become the best practitioners possible in efforts to provide the best care to patients is hopefully a part of everyone’s idea of what it means to be a professional as a student in the doctorate in physical therapy degree

Professionalism in the doctor of physical therapy (DPT) program is vital for developing a reputation and credibility for yourself and the profession. A student’s performance in the DPT program is often a strong indicator of how they will perform as a professional Physical Therapist. I am enthusiastic at the prospects of showcasing my professionalism through my work ethic, effective communication, integrity, and accountability in a DPT program.
Everything I do at work, and even outside of work has a direct effect on fellow coworkers, patients, and the profession of physical therapy. Having professional appearance and manners reassures the patient that you are going to give them the best care possible. Not living up to these standards can alienate the patient, and even show the therapists, and support staffs lack of professionalism and commitment to their patient. My goal was to strengthen all these qualities daily, and is still ongoing. Similarly I will continue to exhibit, and strengthen these qualities utmost as a DPT student. As a DPT student I will be representing the program, professors, clinical instructors, and my entire cohort. The way I act, and the mistakes I make have a negative effect on the entire program. Striving to be the best possible in all manners, appearances, and work ethic are my goal to bring utmost respect always to the program, and give the best care to the patients I have the privilege of treating during my clinical

Throughout my time in the professional world, I have realized that professionalism is not an innate quality an individual possesses, but rather the mastery of multiple skills that demonstrate true competency. I have been a participant of the professionalism realm in numerous capacities, but I discovered that being a student is easily the most versatile professional role. Students are required to demonstrate professionalism through multiple capacities such as physical, verbal and writing as well. Healthcare providers experience a similar versatility in their professional roles as well. A fantastic example of the combination of the student and healthcare provider is the doctor of physical therapy (DPT) student. It is crucial for DPT students
For a person to be successful and productive in a workplace, that individual has to keep a high level of professionalism. Professionalism from the Webster dictionary is defined as “the skill, good judgment, and polite behavior that is expected from a person who is trained to do a job well.” My results from The How Do You Rate Assessments showed a vivid understanding of business values and etiquette. My own definition of professionalism is the highest level and highest etiquette that there is in the work world. When one is called a professional, they up hold high standards of not only themselves but to their peers and coworkers as well. Everyone is treated with the upmost respect while being responsible and goal driven mannered. Professionalism

At a young age, I grew up nursing my mother who was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. I witnessed the labor of many physical therapists throughout my lifetime, and how they personified kindness, diligence, and knowledge. All of these qualities aided my mother in the regaining of her strength. In fact, tending to my mother taught me how to have respect, care for others and motivate myself and individuals to overcome obstacles in life through faith. Nevertheless, I will exercise my strength of compassion in the doctor of physical therapist degree program. Through having an understanding of other students' environments and perspectives from the hardship of my own. I will also provide respect and motivation to my classmates to achieve the highest level of success within the program of physical
The definition of Professionalism is: The conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or a professional person. Also the skill, good judgment, and polite behavior that is expected from a person who is trained to do a job well. Perception is defined as: The way you think about or understand someone or something, the ability to understand or notice something easily or the way that you notice or understand something using one of your senses.
