According to Kimmel, Guyland is a different world where young men live. It is not a way of life, but simply just a stage. It only occurs for a certain period of time, between adolescence and adulthood. It is a place where guys can go to connect with other guys unbothered by their parents, jobs, kids, girlfriends, and other external factors. Kimmel labels it the "Peter-pan mindset" because the guys involved seemingly have their mind set on boyhood with the struggle of acting like a man. Five characteristics that can be attributed to "guyland" are: people from the ages of sixteen through 20, they often times stop talking to their parents whom they believe "just don't get it", middle-class kids, college bound or in college, they live with other
guys, and they blend in with the croud. The media has been a huge influence in American culture that led and continues to support guy land. As the younger boys who are approaching the age of "guyland" seem to be highly influenced by many things they see on television shows or over social media sites. What is shocking is that it is not suprising to sees these very guys spiking drinks of women or hazing other young men.

This means that their feelings and emotions are suppressed, and deep relationships are not created. Jensen states, “But we live our lives in that system, and it deforms men, narrowing our emotional range and depth. It would seem that the words “guys” and “men” would be defined in the same way, as they are thrown around in conversation in generally the same way. In fact, Google defines guy as “a man.” Writer, Dave Barry, puts a spin on these two words in his essay, Guys vs. Men. Guys vs. Men discusses the difference between a man--a masculine, aggressive male--versus a guy. Barry is essentially giving the term “men” all of the negative characteristics associated with males, while giving “guys” the cool and fun traits of males. Throughout his essay, Barry explains how a “guy” is different from a “man”. For example, for each subtitle he gives an anecdote about what guys like, do, or have, and how that is different from what men like, do, or have. Barry’s use of humor influences the tone of the piece by making it seem lighthearted and thus allows him to target women readers as his key audience while at the same time maintaining the interest of men readers.
When looking into works of literature, some stories seem to be similar to others. They can have a similar setting, point of view, theme, or sense of language and style. However, all of these points could be very different as well and could cover different theme or style. Flannery O’Conner’s “Good Country People” and Alice Walker’s “Everyday Use” have some contrasting elements, such as their points of view and use of symbolism, but their similarities in the underlying theme, language, and the setting of these stories reveal how these two stories are impacted by education on both the individual and their family.
As young men grow up, they would generally learn and integrate within a box of codes which shows them how to be a man, known as the Guy Code. The Guy Code is a set of rules prevalently applied among men groups about how a man behaves with other men and his girlfriend. It mainly teaches guys to be dominant, aggressive and fearless. In Michael Kimmel’s “ Bros Before Hos: The Guy Code”, he indicates that men disguise their emotions and inner beings to be like a man, particularly among their peers. It imposes a consciousness that timidity is not a characteristic that men should have.
A common aspect of Flannery O’Connor’s literary works is her use of heavily flawed characters. O’Connor’s characters often exhibit gothic and incongruous characteristics. O’Connor’s short story, “Good Country People,” is no exception to her traditional writing style with characters such as Hulga Hopewell, Mrs. Hopewell, Mrs. Freeman, and Manley Pointer. O’Connor uses gothic characterization and symbolism to produce a great short story about a few ruthless country people.

While we tend to look at the world in a gendered fashion, there are differences in what’s considered masculine and feminine. In addition to varying from person to person, the concepts of masculinity and femininity also vary across time periods, across different cultures, and even across the span of an individual’s life. Kimmel pluralizes these terms to “acknowledge that masculinity and femininity mean different things to different groups of people at different times” (Kimmel; 10). He goes on further to reference sociologist R. W. Connell’s explanation of hegemonic masculinity, which states that it is “constructed in relation to various subordinated masculinities as well as in relation to women” (Kimmel; 10). A typical Western would usually be set in the late 19th century in the mid-west of America in a remote town. The town is usually small, lonely and unwelcoming. Typically a western set looks like it is in the middle of a desert with sand, cacti and tumbleweed which gives a desert look, there are usually never any lakes or rivers around these features make the place look really hot and deserted. The buildings are generally timber board houses with swinging doors and outside the buildings are places to keep their horses, there is also always a General Store and a Saloon. Horses and carriages and cattle are used to give a western feel. The cowboys are typically dressed in western style clothing for example they wear simple shirts and jeans they may also wear ponchos, waist coats, hats, boots with spurs, guns and a belt to hold the gun and bullets, Hero's tend to wear lighter clothing and the villain’s tend to wear darker clothing.
The documentary is mainly about the perception of what the definition of masculinity really is. Ferrell’s films and his comic fame certainly raise stimulating thoughts within a grander discussion of contemporary masculinity, sexuality, and social politics. The majority of his films, present idiotically archaic varieties of “normative” masculine conduct and in nearly every case, Ferrell’s humor develops completely on devaluing and growing these gender norms. He instills both earlier and existing representations of manliness with both a juvenile approach and comedic tendency to go over the top, thus discrediting these stereotypes and opening them up for ridicule.
