The Outsiders a book was written by S.E Hinton. Is Johnny a coward or a hero? Johnny is a hero because he sticks up for others and Johnny is brave because he saved Ponyboy and he’s courageous because he saved the kids in the church while it was on fire. Johnny is a hero because he sticks up for others. Dally was harassing Cherry and Johnny sticks up for them. “Leave her alone Dally” pg.24. Johnny is a hero by saying that to Cherry. Ponyboy and Johnny get jumped and Johnny stabs Bob. Johnny is a hero by saving Ponyboy from the socs. Johnny has gone for supplies bologna, bread, cards, cigarettes and bleach. Johnny is a hero by getting them supplies. Johnny is brave because he saved Ponyboy. Ponyboy got jumped so Johnny gets brave and stabs
Johnny stabbed Bob in self defense. One quote that supports this is when Ponyboy thought to himself, “I’m dying.” and, “I’m drowning.” One other quote to support this is when Johnny said, “I had to. They were drowning you, Pony. They might have killed you.” This quote means that Ponyboy was going to die unless the Socs stopped holding him underwater. Johnny was able to see that Bob was killing his friend so in defense he stabbed him to make him stop. One more detail that supports this is that Johnny was a good kid that would not kill someone unless he had to. One quote that supports this is when Ponyboy described him. He said, “Johnny Cade was last and least.” and when he said, “Smaller than the rest, with a slight build.” Johnny was also described
Conflicts are present in everyday life, whether they are at work, school, or at home. Some people may have worse conflicts than others depending on their environment and surroundings. In “The Outsiders” by S. E. Hinton, Ponyboy and his friends face many different types of conflicts because of who other people think they are and their position in society. They are from the East Side of New York and are called “greasers”, or poor, by the wealthier people. The characters in “The Outsiders” overcome conflicts that are out of their control, like “Man vs. Society”, “Man vs. Self” and “Man vs. Man”.
Boom! Johnny drops to the floor. Kids are screaming. This is when Johnny is a hero for the second time in the story, The Outsiders. Johnny is a hero because he saved kids from a fire and Johnny saved Pony from dying.
Can some people so different be so a like? Can some people so alike be so different? Dally and Johnny are those two who are so different, but yet they are similar. In the book S.E. Hinton writes The Outsiders, Johnny Cade and Dally Winston come from two completely different backgrounds, and have completely different scruples. Yet, at the same time they are alike. Dally and Johnny’s parents both repudiate them, making Johnny and Dally mentally tough, and the boys do not value their lives. At the same time though they are different, Dally is stronger than Johnny. Though, Johnny has a soft heart and Dally would not even pay any attention if someone is dying right next to him.
At what point does conformity become unacceptable and harmful towards an individual’s life? In the novel The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, a gang called the Greasers suffers from stereotype threat and external expectations cause internal expectations within the gang to lower. Expectations of Greasers are set by the Socs, and visa versa for the Socs. As a result of these expectations, Greasers think they can accomplish less than other members of society because that is what is expected of them. Not all expectations set by external people are harmful though. Darry, Ponyboy’s oldest brother, expectation for Ponyboy to rise above the rest of the Greasers is a positive expectation. A Greaser named Ponyboy and a Soc named Cherry is
The book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, follows a horrific part of the life of a boy named Ponyboy Curtis. He is what you might call a Greaser, and has had a rough go at it in his life compared to others. It is difficult, but Ponyboy somehow manages to be himself and has the tenacity to stick through it all. He is in a gang with his friends and family and they are loyal to one another no matter what. A rival gang from the Socs crowd, a richer, more refined group, send him and his pals into a whirlwind of trouble and hurt. This book shows on multiple occasions that perseverance is necessary to get through life .
To save Ponyboy from the Socs, he kill the Socs Bob though he is really scared and terrified by them. He can take the consequence of killing a man because he needs to save his friend. Another example is that when the church is on fire Johnny not only saves school children but saves Ponyboy by pushing Ponyboy out of the church leaving himself in great danger of being crushed by the building’s falling timbers. He can die for his friend. So it is really sad that such a heroic character died after the church fire incident.
If Johnny would’ve never killed Bob, Ponyboy would’ve died from drowning. Johnny will put others before him. “Johnny shoved me toward the window ‘Get out!’ “ (pg. 93) Johnny could’ve taken that time to get himself out instead of telling Ponyboy to get out. What resulted from this was Johnny got third-degree burns and his back was broken from the piece of timber that fell upon him. He could’ve let Ponyboy get severely hurt and saved himself, but no he didn’t he let himself get hurt which shows he will put others before him. Johnny will risk his life to save friends or people he doesn’t even know. “It was a wonder I didn’t cut myself to death, now that I think about it. ‘Hey Ponyboy.’ I looked around, startled. I hadn’t realized Johnny had been right behind me all the way.” (pg 91) Johnny followed Ponyboy inside the burning church just to save a couple of children. He risked his life to save children he didn’t even know and after the saving the children he got injured which followed up to death. This shows that Johnny will put his life at risk and will save
In The Outsiders it is given that through faith and devotion to one another Ponyboy and the gang use their close friendship in troublesome situations for instance when Johnny tells Ponyboy “i had to” he does this as an act of loyalty to Ponyboy to show him that he can trust him no matter what situation they are in. Most of the story is told from first person or Ponies perspective which shows us without exception every aspect of the story. When Johnny dies at the end of the book Ponyboy only then realizes the importance of him, and the gangs need for someone like Johnny to give them a sense of purpose after mentioning “we couldn't get along without him . We needed Johnny as much as he needed the gang.” Throughout all of Ponyboys hardships Johnny was always there to support him even when Ponyboy wanted to run away after darry slapped him, he never asked any questions.
"Get Out"-pg.79) This shows courage, bravery, empathy, and selflessness. One of the traits of a selfless person is the ability to put others first, as he saved Ponyboy and those kids despite the health hazards. People are what matter to Johnny. The children that needed saving are just like how Johnny needed saving from his abusive parents. He shows empathy as he knows how it feels to afraid, and doesn’t want the kids to be afraid like he was before. It is also very brave and courageous to go into a frightening, burning building just to save people. Another act of heroism Johnny demonstrates is when he stands up to Dally("Leave her alone Dally"-pg.22) This an courageous act. A hero is someone who steps up for others and Johnny steps up when Dally is harassing those girls. Dally is known to be unfriendly, mean and hostile, despite this, Johnny isn't afraid to tell Dally to stop. Johnny is a hero and is an amazing example of a hero, as anyone can be

The Outsiders is about the life of a 14-year-old boy. The book tells the story of Ponyboy “Curtis” and his struggles with right and wrong in a society in which he believes that he is an outsider. Ponyboy and his two brothers, Darrel (Darry), who is 20, and Sodapop, who is 16, have recently lost their parents in an automobile accident. Pony and Soda are allowed to stay under Darry's guardianship as long as they all behave themselves. The boys are greasers, a class term that refers to the young men on the East Side, the poor side of town. The greasers' rivals are the Socs, short for Socials, who are the "West-side rich kids."
With his long greasy hair and baggy worn out clothes he looked likes a bad kid, but the way he talked and the way he thought it was a whole different person inside of him. The Outsiders is about two rival gangs that fight and go through so much stuff to just to call the territory their own. It is the Socs versus Greasers. They always have their back up because you can't trust anyone, but at the end of the day is all the rubbles and fighting worth it? Ponyboy one of the greasers has a big character change during the book. In the beginning of the book Ponyboy was getting jumped by the Socs and he was acting all tough and defending himself, in the middle of the book he starts to break while he is in the church, and when the kids were stuck in
The book “The Outsiders”, is a story about a gang, they are called the greasers. One of the greasers is Johnny, he is such a hero even though he is very shy and sensitive he grows out of that quickly. There are three main parts where Johnny shows heroism, when he saves Ponyboy from drowning, he defends Cherry from Dally, and when Johnny helps 4 kids escape from a big fire. He sadly passed away after saving the 4 kids, he was sent straight to the hospital afterwards and spent the last few days of his life there.
“Heroes are people who are ordinary who make themselves extraordinary.” Johnny is a perfect example of this quote. Johnny was an ordinary teenage boy,Ponyboy said he looked like a puppy who was kicked too many times. Johnny is the hero of the The Outsiders because he saved many people, did not promote violence and his death made a big impact on his family.
