The book angels and beetles is about Mawi Asgedom and how when he was a little boy he was in a refugee camp. Then he moved to the USA when he was about six years old. When he got to the U.S his family didn't speak any english and it was hard for them to communicate with people. As he grew up he lost his accent in fourth grade. He grew up and made a lot of mistakes but he kept trying and trying and he got a scholarship to Harvard. He got a diploma and became a motivational speaker. What inspired me the most from Mawi’s experience was if you work hard and don’t give up good thing’s will come and happen to you. You will always lose 81-10 if you don't push your turbo button. You won't get anywhere if you don't push that button you will always lose and never win. To just give up isn't the way to go you will have hard times in your life you just have to fight through it and push yourself. So I had to be in a school where we slowly learnt some
“The secret of happiness is freedom, and the secret of freedom is courage.” In America, Americans are blessed to have the right to freedom. Unlike other unfortunate countries, their freedom is limited. In many Latin American countries, the government’s leader has all power of the Country. Citizens have no rights to freedom, they are trapped in a cruel country where innocent people are killed each day. Civilians fear to speak out to the regime of leader; However, there were a few courageous citizens enough to speak out against the government. For example, “The Censors” by Luisa Valenzuela and the historical fictionalized account, “In The Time Of The Butterflies” by Julia Alvarez reveal individual 's role in overcoming oppression.
Mark Haddon, the man that created this quote, said, “ Reading is a conversation. All books talk. But a good book listens as well.” This connects to the theme of the story The Ghost bird because Mr. Tanner is saying how he sees a rare bird and no one but one little girl named Hannah believes in him. Two weeks is all it takes for a caterpillar to completely transition into a butterfly. Compared to our span of life, this seems like a rushed transition; however, there are certain ways that humans can change just as quickly as a caterpillar. Although these are not physical changes like the caterpillars, they still remain significant. In the novel In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez the characters experience changes in values, personal opinions, and political views. The character Patria fits the image of a butterfly as she rapidly changes in result of certain situations . Over the course of the book Patria quickly undergoes several momentous changes as she alters her political stance and values.
The Power of an Author Authors have the ability justify the worst actions. Authors have a way of romanticizing certain situations in order to convey a specific message. A good author has power to influence the reader into believing whatever it is the author wants. When it comes to the story of Hannah Dustan, authors such as John Greenleaf Whittier have romanticized her captivity story along with the actions she took throughout her journey. Introducing a character that will be seen in the story is one of the most vital parts when creating a piece of literature.

In the short story, “Until Gwen” by Dennis Lehane, it starts off with the main character named Bobby who is getting picked up by his father from prison with a stolen Dodge Neon. His father wasn’t alone, he brought himself a company and it was a hooker named Mandy. We got a sense of who his father was, a “professional thief, a consummate con man” (647). We don’t know why he was in prison until the rest of the story slowly reveals the flashbacks he has with his girlfriend Gwen and the incident prior of going to jail. Bobby has no sense of who he is or where he is from because there no proof of record of him such as a birth certificate. After meeting Gwen, his life has changed and felt the sense of belonging into the world he is living in. Bobby’s
Ray and Lori Jean had experienced some of the same abusive pain in their lives as children. The difference was that Lori Jean had someone who loved her and taught her early on about life and faith. Mee-Maw was respected by all the character’s in the book. I thought this to be of true Southern significance. Mee-Maw’s role was so great that when she died Ray took advantage of her death. Her death opened the door for him to move in, take her money, verbal and physical abuse of Lori Jean and her mother. Not only did her grandma, Mee-Maw, teach her about life and faith, she also taught her about wisdom and strength. Mee-Maw was such a great influence on Lori Jean. I believed, while reading the novel, that when Mee-Maw died, she left
During summer her and her friends went to a party that Melinda ended up calling the cops on, causing everyone at school to ignore and forget about her except one new girl named Heather. Throughout the book Melinda is in situations with “IT,” which is a senior named Andy evans, she founds her voice by standing up for herself. The story “The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket”, written by Yasunari Kawabata, is a children’s fiction story that is written in a third person narrative point of view. The author, who sets himself as the narrator, is describing what he sees as he stumbles upon a group of young, neighborhood kids as they frolic along the bank of a stream near dusk time. He points out the extreme care that the children take in creating their lanterns, and he sees the passion and enthusiasm they have while apparently searching for bugs along the bank and in the bushes. As the story goes on, the author moves from a tone of describing and being literal, to a more serious tone that causes some serious thought. He seems to be attempting to convince the audience of something emotional.
“If at first you don’t succeed try , try again.” At the age of six I was starting to play football. The game was a hard hitting running and commitment. I was six years old at the time now I’m fourteen a freshman in high school a lot has changed.
People have said that to succeed, you must first fail. I didn’t really understand this until failure became so present in my life. In the beginning, my team was losing game after game, and getting knocked out of tournament after tournament. It was hard to keep playing on a team that was struggling so much. “Hang in there guys. People are privileged to live in an advanced stage of development known as civilization. In a civilization, one’s life is bound by rules that are meant to tame its savage natures. A humans possesses better qualities because the laws that we must follow instill order and stability within society. This observation, made by William Golding, dictates itself as one of the most important themes of Lord of the Flies. The novel demonstrates the great need for civilization ion in life because without it, people revert back to animalistic natures.
Life is full of difficulties. People are compelled to face these from time to time. In some cases, an individual is unable to progress in life because of their inability to deal with the reality of their predicaments. However, some of these drastic incidents are necessary for individuals to overcome these difficulties and move on in life. In The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, a few of the characters portrayed successfully overcome the hardships while others remain held up in their predicaments and are hence, unable to make any progress in life. In this play, Tom fails to overcome the boredom of living with his family, Laura fails to confront her fears of schooling while Amanda succeeds in accepting that she has raised her children well despite their stubbornness.
